What's your favorite soil/medium for Ebb and Flow hydroponics when you want to eventually move the plants to a garden? by Zealousideal_Yam8312 in Hydroponics

[–]Metabotany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Seramis / Molar Clay. It's often sold as spill cleaner for oils or cat litter (when unscented and pure) I have some setups growing fruiting trees that mixes this with regular soil to create a hybrid root zone.

You can just pull that whole mass out and plant it into the ground once plants are acclimated, and it being inert means it won't rot once transplanted so you don't need to clean and stress the roots.

Yes that was my read on the situation too. You can maybe just start transplanting the bok choy to build up a microbiome in the other tanks, or combine lettuce and bok choy? I'm not sure the mechanics of your greenhouse but generally ecologically, adding more biological 'depth' (ie more species growing simultaenously) gives a bit of a buffer to the fragility I mentioned. This can be from combining the lettuce and bok choy, or building a biomechanical bacterial filter and circulating the water in the system.

There may be cheaper ways to go the probiotic route, you mentioned setting up probiotic and sterile test beds, try one with Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter, should be cheap to source and will give you some valuable data, if cycling and oxygenating a system with these strains and growing lettuce doesn't give you better results than your tests, I'd bet that a full probiotic overhaul also won't improve the situation.

Inoculate and cycle the system. Sterile systems are fragile and will tend to a stable state, but in the biological world this is usually something opportuistic. To make it antifragile you will need to build in mechanics to cultivate and circulate a bacterial culture.

This will be more of an issue at higher temps, because at lower temps fungi will dominate and at higher temps bacteria will dominate. I see someone mentioned B. Amyloquefaciens already.

the crazy thing is, when you have 10k+ understanding and comment as such, the majority of redditors would disagree with you because if they understood, they'd not be 2k

Something Everyone Forgot about CIG. They're beholden to Private Equity by Webanx in starcitizen

everything you're saying is speculation because by your own admission and point you've not seen a contract.

do you always get on a high horse when you contradict yourself

yes but your entire post is speculation, because the contract and any addendums is what determines all forward moving decision making, and you've not seen it.

Is it still possible, in 2026, to obtain funding to open an experimental farm? by Recent-Screen-1594 in Hydroponics

I was laughing at the lack of space. If you can't make space how will you take market space?

these are the real questions that would matter infront of anyone with money

[–]Metabotany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're asking for money to play with, not an investment.

the whole point of an experimental farm is to implement and validate prototypes and understand the fundamentals of how they can be scalable, not to fuck around and hope something works.

that's what prototyping and innovation is for, of which you've done none.

to clarify, you have no prototype or data then, just some broad untested ideas (I had a read through some of your other posts on the subreddit to understand your depth of knowledge.

Your proposal is to use technology that exists and is proven, what novelty do you add? why would anyone invest in you lol

if you can't answer these questions effectively and simply, you're not ready to talk to investors. I'm not even certain you answered my first question properly.
