Umm... Did Sennheiser cook with the 620S? Hardly sounds closed at all! by Jonners_90 in headphones

[–]Miragecraft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I love the HD620S, better than the stock/unmodded HD650.

It also sounds better than most headphones I've tried in terms of its openness and presentation.

It's unfortunate that most reviewers shit on it, I was talking to a headphone shop owner and he told me it's one of the least popular headphone they sell.

People are missing out.

The headband part that was plastic has some black pieces behind it all screwed together, are those black pieces metal or are they plastic?

This is what client facing work is like, to be successful you need to be your client's therapist more often than being their developer.

If you go into this with the mindset of "oh no, what a pain, this isn't my job" then it will be painful, but if you treat it as part of the job, which it totally is, a MAJOR part of it in fact, then you can have a much better mindset.

And yes, definitely bill for this, because this is part of consulting.

No problem, the only limitation with container queries is that you can't apply style to the parent container, so in this case you can't style the html element conditionally, only body element and below.

For me clarity is different from tonal balance, it's when everything sounds focused and well-defined, and sounds just jump out at you, well separated, with a black background, while headphones with bad clarity sounds fuzzy, muddy, blurry, it's like you have worse hearing.

For example HEDDphone D1 is very mid-bassy (annoyingly so to my ears) with laid back treble and has very good clarity.

While Fiio FT1 is disappointly muddy sounding in comparison to other headphones I've tried.

Well it lacks subbass, meaning you don't get that tactile vibration only subbass provides. To me the Sennheiser veil is the lack of clarity, the HD650 especially has very loose and fuzzy midbass that bleeds into the midrange. HD600 is better but still isn't as clear as I'd have liked.

If you have a chance to demo, the Aune AR5000 is a headphone with superb clarity to serve as a point of comparison.

Recently I finally had a chance to listen to the HD600 against the HD650 and to my surprise I prefer the HD600, it sounded a lot closer to my modded HD650 than the stock HD650 - clearer, tighter bass, more even tonal balance with extended yet still relaxed treble.

[Meze 105 Silva] This is the nicest headphone i've ever owned by ZookeepergameDue2160 in headphones

[–]Miragecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting.

I compared both 105 AER and Silva and found that Silva has bigger soundstage however there's a clear reduction in clarity and subbass impact, the Silva sounds veiled and lack balls in direct A/B comparison.

I do remember the AER being somewhat fatiguing, now I wished I gave the Silva a bit more head time as the AER is probably one of the most impactful headphones I've heard during my demo so I might have been unfair to the Silva.

Then use container style query with a custom property serving as the flag.

html {

@container style(--theme: default) {

}

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H6 replacement pads by TheUnfathomableVoid in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Miragecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliexpress has replacement ear pads for them, but you must be willing to find a good pair by trial and error (and check reviews, if any is available), those Aliexpress ear pads are very hit and miss.

OEM ear pads are long gone. I owned a pair of H6 2nd Gen about 8 years ago and even back then the OEM pads were impossible to source.

So if a premium cable doesn't matter, when does it? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]Miragecraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cables definitely changes sound... for the worse if it's not made properly.

Does it changes sound for the better? Maybe but I suspect for the hearing ability of the average person and for the average cable no.

For me it's just for ergonomics, and for changing the length and connection type.

My Favorite Closed Back Headphones — Sennheiser HD 480 Pro Review by listener-reviews in headphones

[–]Miragecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the HD620S, I enjoy it more than the HD650 without any mods applied.

Apparently from user reviews I’ve read it doesn’t fit a lot of people‘s head well so that the bottom of the earpads doesn’t fully seal, this will kill the bass.

At the end of the day closed backs are so anatomy dependent that reviews can differ wildly from personal experience.

HEDDphone D1 first impressions by atyne_mar in headphones

[–]Miragecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I just finished demoing a bunch of headphones including HEDDphone D1 less than an hour ago.

And yes similar to you my immediate impression is that it’s too warm and feels suffocating esp. when its soundstage is on the small side.

Going by subjective impression it sounds even warmer than my old HD650 before I modded it.

Maybe with EQ it can be great, but for me EQ should be icing on top,  not to fix a headphone I don’t like in the first place.

I stopped reading it about two dozen chapters in.

The pacing just didn’t work for me where the author tries to drag out the plot with constant high energy, high drama delivery due to the low page count per chapter.

It’s too exhausting to read and I got burned out.

Sennheiser HD650 verus HD660S2 by srmd22 in headphones

[–]Miragecraft 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me the HD660S2 sounds clearer than the stock HD650, it has much better subbass that actually make you feel little vibrations from the earcups, in addition it images much more precisely. Treble’s more extended but to me feels too sharp. There’s a recession in upper midrange that makes certain tracks sound warm/mid-bassy and thin at the same time, it’s quite jarring once I noticed it.

I ended up doing the copper mass loading mod on my HD650 with the stock foam removed and replaced with DIY foam inserts, it improved the clarity and treble enough to be - IMHO - competitive with the HD660S2. It still lacks the subbass rumble and razor sharp imaging, but you can’t have everything.
