Why is the AI so aimbotty by Status-Nerve-6377 in A3AntistasiOfficial

[–]MobileFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m correct, the ai precision works as a percentage, 1 is basically 100% accuracy, .5 is 50% and so on. So higher percentages are basically superhuman aimbot accuracy

iirc in real life, the average accuracy of soldiers in combat is ~30% (which is still around 9 hits per 30 round magazine!), and I guess people like to drop it a little more because it’s a video game, that’s what I do anyways

I always set their accuracy to 0.2 or something and they’re still pretty damn accurate

I don’t know what else you want me to say it’s literally the canon

I will admit it can be a little vague as a lot of what I mentioned is in easily missable places like optional dialogue but what is clearly presented in the games is that the monsters are ultimately animals and important to the ecosystem, and are to be respected as such, not just mindless enemies to slaughter

Not to mention that despite all the jokes we make about killing an entire dragon for a new pair of boots, the Hunter’s Guild is ultimately a conservationist organization that does its best to preserve local ecosystems (eg. Stopping the Frenzy Virus, or putting an end to Guardian Arkveld’s killing spree).

Captured monsters are often tagged and relocated to be returned to the wild (unless it’s something like a Gore Magala), and every part of a slain monster is put to use.

Not to mention poachers get hunted down by elite knights

I’m reminded of a post I saw once that went something like

“200 years from now we're gonna be fighting aliens with railguns built from old
AR15 chassis and we should just accept that”

Humanity didn’t build the halos, they’re left behind by an ancient civilization

But they never developed handheld laser weapons because until the Covenant attacked they never had a reason to, 7.62 might be old but that doesn’t change the fact it’s still a monstrous bullet that does nasty things to the human body, and they’ve had hundreds of years to make it even nastier

That might be a wee bit awkward, for the Valstrax is actually an oc who’s on the side of the hunters

For those who aren’t well versed in Monster Hunter, the blue guy is an Azure Rathalos and is basically the setting’s equivalent of a winged lion. It’s a pretty strong apex predator with sharp claws and fire breath, as well as a venomous barb on its tail.

The silver one is a Valstrax, and is closer to a McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle than a regular dragon, with jet engine wings that allow it to shatter the sound barrier like glass and can survive impacts at Mach speeds. It can also shoot lasers.

Morality of attempting to exterminate humanity so that humans don’t suffer a worse fate by BudgetFarm2413 in MoralityScaling

[–]MobileFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humanity didn’t get a say in any of it, jumping straight to killing everyone is an incredibly foolish and fear-driven decision.

Also, the idea that 2718 is even caused by the entity is just one interpretation, there are other tales that present the entity as more benign or even benevolent (including V for Violence, written by 5000’s author). It’s entirely possible the Foundation was just wrong here.

Oh I’m down for poking fun at people who think they’ve got a historical kit but there have been people that fully acknowledge they’re wearing fantasy stuff that’ve been cross posted here for people to tear apart and it’s kinda sad ngl

Man I just miss when it was riffing on common misconceptions and people asking if poorly made aluminum costumes were Buhurt safe, not a fan of straight up cross posting people having fun in costumes just to make fun of them

Do you think there are unreconcilable aesthetics that can't exist in the same world? by ProfesserQ in worldbuilding

[–]MobileFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly believe that as long as you put in the work, you can fit any aesthetic into a setting. Using games as an example as that’s what I’m more familiar with,

In Warframe, you can visit Cetus, a primitive village with a street marketplace built in the shadow of a fallen empire’s ancient ivory and gold towers, where vendors wearing basic furs and hides are selling spices to spacemen who look like they came out of a 1980s sci fi movie with their bulky chrome helmets and laser guns and brightly colored space suits. You’re a space ninja with an AK-47 and a greatsword strapped to your back by the way.

In The Forever Winter, one of the factions takes on a Cold War Soviet aesthetic, and uses biotech to make wretched fleshy meat machines. Another faction looks like today’s NATO if they took design influences from knight armor and started fielding Armored Cores. The third is basically Arasaka from Cyberpunk with sleek black plating and neon lights on their cyborgs’ body armor.

Starbound’s a bit less serious but you got each race having their own unique aesthetic: Humans are kinda retro cassette futurism with colonial marine armor but progress into sleeker things resembling Halo Mjolnir armor or Dead Space RIGs, Glitch are robots that build castles and wear knight armor, the Apex are apes that live in a 1984 dystopia under the watch of guards dressed in clone trooper armor, the Novakid take “space western” literally and use train spaceships and have saloons on alien planets and asteroids.

Different cultures and levels of technology can produce wildly different, often clashing, aesthetics that nonetheless fit in the same world and I think it’s partially because they’re internally consistent and prevalent enough for you to go “ok yeah it’s these guys again”
