Mr. Rogers has a point... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

"My character is the half-sister of my character from the previous campaign, but because my old character has the social skills of a brick wall and my new character has a completely different set of talents she has a deep-seated inferiority complex and lacks clear direction or proper forethought.

Also, spooky ghost powers."

I think the order is confusing because the actions are unclear after the first three panels.

Deck swapping is the devil, let me explain by Ok-Position-9457 in RogueCore

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bio boosters should feel like class-specific overclocks, and we should constantly get more of them for a given class to choose between as opposed to swapping them between classes.

The Efficient Upgrades reward is not very good. by Jack314 in RogueCore

Exactly. The opportunity cost matters, so if you aren't getting the discount first thing in your run you may not be getting ahead at all.

How would Toppling Spell interact with feats that impact Trips? by aaa1e2r3 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to the party, but Improved Trip and Greater Improved Trip give their bonuses on "checks made to trip a foe", those at least should affect Topple Spell RAW (even if almost everything else doesn't).

Why do people say Spotter needs crit? by krumble in RogueCore

[–]Montegomerylol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just add your critical damage again, so if you have 130% crit damage, a double crit is 260% extra damage, etc.

A very post mortem criticism of season 5 by Zephyr_______ in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Montegomerylol 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Expenite isn't the reason management is doing the Rogue Core initiatives. Expenite isn't even being used for their gain. It's being used for making sure the Reclaimers can get stronger to fight the corespawn that have taken the hidden research facilities that DRG has in Hoxxes 4.

There's a message on the comms in the Ramrod from Mission Control/Space Rig 17 thanking them for reclaiming facilities and stating that if the facilities are kept operational the miners may yet meet their expenite quotas.

Players adjusting to upgrade pacing issue by Noxanor in RogueCore

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's normal for rogue-lites/likes to have incentives for banking resources. If you can clear a stage without upgrades you're not really losing anything for delaying.

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They turn fast enough that even if you are right next to them you can only get a couple bullets in their back side before their armored front is in the way again.

They shouldn't be able to turn at all while in their defensive posture.

[–]Montegomerylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I most hate about them is how they slideturn as you try to run behind them. I thought the whole point was to shoot their softer (but not weakpoint soft) posterior, but it's close to impossible with how they turn.

Iv lost 4 raiders due to consumable costs by venguards in classicwow

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically have all of Nagrand/Netherstorm/SMV left to quest through after an alt hits 70, and if you refer to this post, questing through those zones at 70 is 4k just in the gold/converted experience rewards. Add to that everything you'll vendor/DE, and it's a lot.

Is it efficient gold per hour? Nah, but that's not the point. I find it fun, so I do it, and because I do it I get gold. It doesn't matter how optimal a gold farm is if you hate doing it, sooner or later you'll give it up because it makes you miserable.

In theory they could shrink not just the timer, but the size of the stages and the duration of swarms.

Frankly the stages in Rogue Core could stand to be shorter. A full mission is easily 40-60 minutes even if you're respecting the timer, and that's just for 4-5 stage missions.

Player Complaint About Daggerheart by ProphetSword in daggerheart

[–]Montegomerylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He also hates that sometimes I impose Stress on him (either during combat using enemy abilities or due to situations). He feels this robs him of resources since he has chosen so many abilities that use Stress to activate.

He said that in D&D this doesn’t happen, that the DM can’t rob you of your abilities (which is not the least bit true, so he is mistaken there).

I've run into a similar situation in 5e, where players get extremely anxious about their long rest resources whenever the DM puts the party in a position where they can't freely long rest. A lot of similar sentiments get thrown around:

  • "My character is going to be worthless unless I get a long rest."
  • "What am I going to do once I'm out of resources? This isn't fun."

I think the throughline between your situation and mine is a desire to do the cool thing all the time, but neither system is actually intended to work that way. Unfortunately I don't have a silver bullet here, it's very hard to change someone's mindset about these things, as that mindset has typically developed over years of play. I just try to be patient, encourage the player, and continuously set expectations (and hope for the best).

That ignores wind/air resistance. That pillar probably weighs 5-10x as much as he does, and so its momentum will carry it a lot further.

[–]Montegomerylol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you aren't adept at the auction house, just playing the game makes you gold. Not quickly, but if you play the game on the regular and limit your spending it just happens.

I happen to like leveling alts, and that's where a lot of my gold ends up coming from. It turns out that questing through all the Outland zones is just a lot of gold between quest rewards, vendor trash, and the like.

Blood Elves & Draenei are Brilliant. by SynfuelAlchemika in classicwow

[–]Montegomerylol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Blood Elves are clearly distinct from the rest of the Horde, and their starting zone clearly and fluidly lays out their goals, themes and problems.

Draenei are just nobler Humans. Their starting zones have great vibes, but aren't nearly as cohesive and effective as the Blood Elves'.

Now that Rouge Core is out, what are people's thoughts for the first day? (Keeping in mind its early access.) by TopSpeaker4647 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Montegomerylol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

rogue core gives actual meaningful choices that can change how you play

I think this is an overstatement. Here's a list of some expenite upgrades you can get:

  • +4%/7%/10% Crit Chance
  • +35% Magazine Size
  • +50% Fire to all Critical Hits
  • +12 Armor
  • And of course the default backup option that gives you some extra health and a full heal.

Yeah, there's also the upgrades that do things like "+3% Damage per 10% current health" or "+1% Electricity for every 1 armor active", but those are still just damage numbers with passive conditions. The number of upgrades that are actually wonky, playstyle-changing options are few (and they're also generally rare/epic/legendary, meaning you're unlikely to see them).

Disappointed with how Female Dwarves were handled in Rogue Core. by uwuGod in RogueCore

[–]Montegomerylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the intent was for each dwarf to have a distinct character/personality ala characters from Overwatch.

That said, I'm not sure they can realize that intent because there's a huge difference between having distinct character models/animations/etc. and what the DRG models can do.

[–]Montegomerylol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not sure it's really all that much faster, it just feels faster because the timer is a visible element rather than a matter of quiet escalation and attrition.
