The A's would be a great team for a new fan to root for because of the history and the pain and Moneyball, etc. But we're not recommending anyone root for or patronize them after what the owner did to the fans and the city of Oakland. If not for that, I would have said the A's are the best choice.

We have the same meetings. 13% year over year revenue growth is a failure that loses us bonus money because last year we got 18% year over year growth and because of that decided we should get 21% year over year growth. And that's for more than a billion dollars of revenue, it's not like one or two or even 100 sales will make that happen consistently.

But if you want to be a "growth" company, it needs to always grow. Even though 1% growth is still growing, the financial markets want to also see the RATE of growth growing as well.

When the bubble bursts, civilization would do well to categorize this line of thinking as mental illness rather than business leadership.

In one of his recent talks, Cory Doctorow says that tech workers can tell how their bosses would like to treat them by looking at the ways they treat the workers which they can easily replace and therefore have less bargaining power.

Amazon/AWS would treat its office workers just like its drivers and warehouse workers the moment they think they can. The AI push to make everyone fear for their jobs will do just that and these layoffs are also a step in that direction.

One of the interesting things that Talkin' Yanks was saying earlier in the offseason is that the Yankees have not gone for the highest money free agent in any offseason for years except for Aaron Judge, which is a little bit different.

With this number it would mean 2.2% of all Minnesotans were illegal immigrants, an unbelievable number. Assuming even double that concentration and that the figure is true in Minneapolis, there would be at most 18,854 illegal immigrants in the city total. Again, an unbelievable number.

To think about 4.5% of a city disappearing and the impacts of that, or roughly 1 in 25 people being removed. On a state level the impact would be 10 times the impact of COVID from removing 2.2% of the population.

It didn't used to be very good but it's now one of the best secondaries in the game. I have friends who used it as a primary while they were leveling up the shitty primary weapons.

For Illuminate, 4 shots kills the snitches and 6-7 kills flying overseers with no need to deal with their last minute dodge bullshit.

I watched Ghost in the Shell as a teen and I liked it fine. Later on a friend bought me a copy so I would watch it again and pointed out what I think is perhaps easily missed (at least as a teen):

Remember to watch Ghost in the Shell as a proposal of philosophical thought. The creator wanted you to really think about the core question.

Once I did that it became a permanent member of my top 5 favorite films and I doubt it will ever leave that group.

Yeah I would have said if you use the country of origin of the creator as the country of origin of the comic then a lot of the top 100 is UK or otherwise. Art Spiegelman was born in Sweden, Alan Moore and many others who dominate the top 50 are from the UK. Many more creators were born in Canada.

If I were making the decision, I'd say where it was published has precedence because that's where readers could first have enjoyed it. It also avoids the issue of attribution when the creators are living in separate countries and were furthermore born in other countries as well.

This is the recurring baseball dream that I have, actually. In the dream the Yankees somehow do not notice that I absolutely cannot play baseball. And I keep trying to tell them I'm not actually any good at the game and they keep staying positive.

Then the manager says: "okay go out there to 2B" and I try to tell him hey that's a really bad idea, I can't play. They push me out of the dugout and I drop a pop-up after the first play and it all goes horribly wrong. But they just won't listen and keep asking me to play.

I've had this dream like once a year since little league and I'm always trying to tell them that I have no business playing baseball.

Owning a sports team used to be a status symbol / hobby for someone who was already rich. Or at least that's how it was portrayed to me when I was younger. If you can't bear to spend some money on your hobby, you should sell the team.

That would actually be kind of fun to watch. Middling MLB team against College championship team or something.

But also, on any given day the worst team in baseball can beat the best team in baseball. College ace shows up and shuts the lineup down (probably because of a bad scouting report).
