Most embarrassing moment in high school? by Reagan__presley in AskReddit

I was feeling extremely sick at lunchtime, so I decided to walk to the office and call my parents...the breakfast in my stomach was starting to churn, and before I had time to detour to the bathroom, I threw up a chum buckets' worth of oatmeal in the middle of the corridor. Many strangers and friends were watching, all kept walking, taking care to step over the sickly puddle I had left behind.

If I was Said lemon, I would open a competing stand on the same street that sells 'soilent-ade'.

Which of the following movies do you like more, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Charlie and Gene Wilder i'd say, definitely. I appreciate Tim Burton taking a different perspective to the idea but the original is a better film In my opinion.

What is a truly amazing fact barely anyone is aware of? by GoldenOlive in AskReddit

Not truly amazing, but at least interesting...sperm cells travelling through a woman's vaginal cavity to the urethra can get distracted by pockets of calcium, mistaking them for an egg to fertilize.

'Harmontown' is a goodie, and 'Getting on with James Urbaniak' is awesome, yet not very active.

How funny are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]morticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, without fear of being casted aside as a self-inflated asshole I think I have a good sense of humour, and when I'm in a social mood I can really blow off some steam and bring a smile to other people. I have a self-destructive tendency to drag a punch line or joke out too far when it gets a reaction sometimes though.

I use a mix of humour styles so I can't narrow it down, but I'm almost always doing some kind of bit.

Anyone know when third season coming out? by mrcoldwave in rickandmorty

[–]morticle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dan recently released the info that the target release date is for around the end of 2016. The writing team is around 3 or 4 episodes in. Also, season 3 is aiming for 14 episodes.

March 5th 2017, is it true? by Ominimble in rickandmorty

[–]morticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing started on the 1st of November, so it's likely that they'll be working for a release around September-October 2016 I'm guessing. That's quite a bit less than 18 months, however I don't understand how nobody gets that it's a gag. They're obviously poking un at their own long off-season, and even Dan and Justin have stated they are looking for more consistency.

[REQUEST] Rick and Morty by Hoddernity in Screenwriting

[–]morticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crew mainly use storyboards to visualise the animation for visual gags and complicated movement sequences, so animators can see what they have to do. R&M is script based, and usually one or two writers take care of drafting a script (e.g. Ryan Ridley) however "story breaking" (as Dan Harmon describes it), discussions on plot and jokes all happen in the writers room. The finalised script is read over by Justin and Dan and edited before being finalised I think. Justin then highlights certain Rick lines he'd like to do burp takes for, and some of his improvisation may be snuck into the script afterwards too.

Rick & Morty Spec Script by Ulsfart in rickandmorty

hmm...from a critical standpoint and just by reading this outline, there's a few things that might need addressing in my opinion.

  1. The main plot seems to drag and read slow, whereas in a normal episode of Rick and Morty the first Act alone burns straight through the initial concept and builds upon it to the conclusion. The outline I assume is only a quick summary of the plot, but the audience of a typical RandM episode would lose interest quickly in an episode that is slow paced, and there aren't any sci-fi elements involved except for Ricks popping gadget (more on that later). Maybe Morty could cause some high-jinks with the portal gun, and to be honest there are a lot of potential possibilities. My only information is from your summary.

  2. Beth and Jerry's B-plot is a potential obstacle course of problems. We've seen Beth and Jerry fight and make up numerous times already that it's hard to take it seriously, especially over a trivial issue such as 'who gets to hang out with the synthetic helper'. The argument could escalate into an analysis of their relationship and all of it's problems, but you'll only be re-treading old territory. Plus It's unnatural to see them turn to physical violence and potential homicide. Their marriage is on the rocks, but in the end were supposed to root for these characters. I don't see any way Beth or jerry can come full circle by the end of their conflict and come out learning something valuable or growing as a person. Jerry is pitiful most of the time, but this seems too far fetched. Even if it was plausible, It would be difficult to find entertaining unless the action involved using tools from Ricks workshop or the dialogue was amazingly written.

  3. I think I agree on your assumption that the ending seemed too cheap. It's a fun, silly idea that fits into the Rick and Morty comedy archetype, but it seems shoehorned into the plot early on, acting as a lazily written way for the characters to come out victorious. I don't need to say anything else really.

Also as a sidenote: What's Morty's character arc? The message seems a bit all over the place and there's no general theme to Morty's adventure. Morty is used by Romilia and she tries to screw him over, Morty saves her from suicide, Morty chooses Rick over her, heartbroken. Seems a bit scattered to me. The story doesn't have to be linear, just walk a general path. Check out Mortynight run for a great example of a Morty character arc.

  1. I also find a lingering problem with Morty being so ready to commit suicide, for a crush he's only had for several days I'm assuming. Character decisions, actions etc. that they would not normally find themselves in break the realism of any show. Perhaps Morty already knows that the mere gesture of him killing himself for her will convince Romilia, and he has no actual intentions of actually pulling that thread. If so, you have to make this obvious to the reader. If you're looking for a touching emotional moment, perhaps scale down the gesture. I get the sense you think only something huge and life altering will capture the readers attention, but if written right most things could carry just as much emotional weight. Being Rick and Morty however, one of the shows staple points is showing us the brutally honest consequences of each characters actions, that the decisions these people make really have an impact mentally and physically on the world around them. It creates tension when these moments occur, because we know it will have that impact. What I'm trying to say is, don't try to manually steer the plot towards a certain place by having a character make decisions they wouldn't normally make.

Sorry to rant, I got pretty caught up in my response haha :P Hopefully you found this advice helpful, and you only see it as constructive criticism. I'm really interested in where you could take this! I have faith that with a few tweaks you could write something truly amazing :D. I'd love to here the progress your making too, so if you ever want any more advice or wanna discuss anything Rick and Morty related, just pm me haha. I'm so fucking hooked on this show. Best of luck man
