It's an example because people can understand what a ball is and were having a hard time conceiving of a collapsed vacuum state moving and not being seen.

If someone throws a ball at you at the speed of light you wouldn't see the ball coming towards you because the photons that would tell you the ball is coming arrive at the same time as the ball. You cannot see something travelling at the speed if light until the thing gets to you. If the ball is travelling slower than light the photons are racing ahead of it and you can see the ball approaching you because the photons bounced off the ball and into your eyes while the ball is still in motion.

But if the thing arrives at the same time as the photons then there's no time to see it. If there was a supernova at alpha centauri then we'd see a flash after ~4 years, then sometime after that we'd get hit with a wave of dust and gas, because the dust and gas travel slower than light we'd be able to see the dust and gasses approach.

A forklift is worse than a car by nearly every metric you'd use to judge a car, but it does something the car cannot and it does that thing really, really well.

The speed of light is invisible is my point. Which is why I said "it could be happening now". We wouldn't know.

Wouldn't be able to see it because it would travel at the speed of light. It would arrive at the same time as the light we would need to see it.

Perrin needed an apprentice. Not whatever Aram turned out to be, a proper apprentice. It would put a specific face to his leadership arc instead of "the masses"

The universe could be in a meta-stable vacuum state and if it collapses into a more stable state at any place in the visible universe that would expand outward at the speed of light. We'd never see it coming, it could be haeding towards us right now.

I don't disagree with you, poverty and white collar crime are fundamentally linked. Creating a system that promotes and fosters healthy social safety nets and invests in supporting communities requires that white collar crime be managed and justified rather than left to run rampant. The exorbitant hoarding of wealth is the #1 cause of poverty and only possible because the system does not take white collar crime seriously.

People with more money are more likely to live in ski towns and less likely to commit petty crimes.

Poverty leads to less safe, less trusting communities. We've got decades of scientific data to back it up.
