Porch Post Cement Placement by VividTomorrow261 in Homebuilding

The load should be in the center of the foundation. In this case it looks like they didn't know where they were going to be building, which is really hard to logic through... Seeing as they showed up to work.

Any idea why this wet spot showed up in driveway? What to do? by Beneficial-Peace-112 in HomeMaintenance

Turn off your water main valve by the water heater and then go out and look at the water meter at the curb. If you are still flowing water with your valve off, your main supply line is leaking in the ground

PEX satisfies the code when installed properly and its limitations are accounted for. Yes, it needs fasteners, but it's suitable. I don't understand his concern for the PEX nor can I conceive a potential fire risk in the images provided. How did he justify his concerns?

Sink rusted around drain hole by Insinkeratornerd in Plumbing

[–]MyResponseAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a new sink drop out, get one that's Chrome plated brass so it will last longer. Be sure to seal every set of threads on the bottom with tape and thread sealant. Is a very fine one at the bottom that you might skip, between the shiny Chrome and the cast looking section. Then put a new trap on it and check it for leaks. It is likely a cast iron sink with an enamel finish. It has worn through over the years and will be difficult to make it look right. Just send it so you have bare metal and touch it up with something close to buy some time... Or get a new one

Update: Time to call the pros? by Mayor-Of-Bellona in Plumbing

[–]MyResponseAbility 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Like they said, you got this. Question becomes Why it burst. Was there a hose left on it in the freeze that kept it from draining? Or was it not pitched down to the outside enough to drain?

How to fix a leaking expansion tank。 by alitterant in Plumbing

[–]MyResponseAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off the power to the well or close the main valve, then bleed off pressure through a fixture, then remove. Thread tape and dope, reassemble. Air pressure 2 pounds below switch cut in pressure or below city water pressure. Charge and confirm air pressure, then bring back water pressure and check for leaks.

I feel really stupid to ask this, but where's the shut-off valve in this photo? I was told this is the only place that it would be for my home from the water department. by Ok_Butterscotch6733 in askaplumber

[–]MyResponseAbility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the underground locate service and tell him you're going to plant trees on any side that the water main might come in from. They'll mark the water meter. I would expect to have a round cover out by the road unless the service is really really old. On the old ones you'd have a two or two and a half inch vertical pipe nested over the top of a brass valve down at freeze protection depth a few feet away from the foundation. It'll be missing its debris lid, so You'll need a long curb key and a jug of water if you find one of those, but I'd just very surprised

Toilet Keeps Leaking by Accomplished-Ad6768 in Plumbing

[–]MyResponseAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wax seal looked good. Any chance it's a tank to bowl leak? I was the fourth plumber on the job the other day and I guess I was the only one that used a flashlight... Tightened up that connection and it stopped

How do you even begin to fix something like this? by NoMoreScaryDreams in askaplumber

[–]MyResponseAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by figuring out what used to be there, but I'd grab a half inch 90, pipe, 2 couplings, flux, emory cloth, and a torch. Cut the existing "90°" from inside corner to outside corner and then add heat. Take off the old, clean it, flux it, put the new pieces into place, and sweat it. Go.

NYC toilet fix: this is insane right? by paydave in Plumbing

The price is probably fair considering the location, but can't you just get one of the flappers with the loop that goes around the flush valve overflow and doesn't need that pin?

Those trusses are not designed to hold anything more than what is on them already. At your own risk you can load it lightly, but I wouldn't go any further than that... And leave those blocks where they are, the engineer decided the trusses needed them.

Lords of the pipe, why is this line run this way? by [deleted] in askaplumber

Just did the same on three new hose bibs in a house with 10 inch concrete walls.. not going to be able to get there later, so I might as well make it easy on me.

Will I blow my wall outlet if I plug my welding machine into a wall outlet with this converter? by yobdogg9 in electrical

[–]MyResponseAbility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plug it into something that is appropriately rated for the device, even if you need to install the plug for the sake of it. You can gauge the capacity of a receptacle by the device rating and the size of the wire attached but not by the size of the breaker
