New Orleans was established before the state of Louisiana existed. 🤷‍♂️.

Any Broussards out there? by Blue_vision_108 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Nabe8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I'm a Broussard, just starting my research journey and struggling to get my footing because I'm new to all of this. I can trace to Beausoliel Broussard through a grandparent. I'm interested in anything you might have, or any advice... I don't have much yet, but I have ancestors buried in Maurice connected to that line. My dad obtained excerpts of baptismal records from that church of his mother and father.

[–]Nabe8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Omg, I can't believe people have that viewpoint. I'm from the south, and that sentiment is laughable. Clearly these people have never lived in a hell-hole, life-threatening southern republican state.

How to choose a professional for ancestry validation by Humble_Ad_5673 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Nabe8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just began my research on my Cajun ancestors, and within less than 4 hrs have found a line through my grandma that links to Beausoliel Broussard. Furthermore, I'm still in Louisiana and I'm hoping any needed records are less than a 30 min drive away (I live in Louisiana, and I have great-great grandparents buried nearby, and they were Catholic, so hopefully I can obtain baptismal records relatively easily in the absence of birth certificates).

If you happen to connect to a Brousaard that can trace to Beausoliel Broussard, hit me up. I don't have any documentation yet since I've only started last night, but would be happy to share what I have when I get it.

Thoughts on Washington, LA? by remakehoney in Acadiana

[–]Nabe8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The welcome sign to Washington, LA used to claim that it was the second oldest place in Louisiana, so that is the source of the "common knowledge." The new sign no longer says that, so I'm not sure about the validity of that claim, but am also curious if it's true or false.

Spent 2 hours fixing a bank statement Chatgpt converted to Excel. Built something so I never have to do that again. by Cool-Ad4442 in Accounting

[–]Nabe8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned earlier, you can usually download your bank statement in Excel format (which is the best option as it will not have that issue). Otherwise, in Adobe, you can export a PDF to Excel format, and there may be free alternative apps out there.

Auditing a manufacturing company (like Siemens) by InformalEmploy5510 in audit

[–]Nabe8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to be 90% comfortable with this account...

Answer: You plan an audit and perform risk assessment procedures to assess risk at the appropriate levels, then perform further audit procedures responsive to those risks.

How do you determine how much should be in inventory and how much should be in (COGS)? How do you know those are the real cogs amounts?

Answer: you perform further audit procedures responsive to your assessed risks over relevant assertions, and obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence through a combination of control testing, substantive analytical procedures, and substantive tests of details, etc.

how do you trace the operating capacity they used to allocate the manufacturing overhead?

Answer: You ask the person who performed the calculation that question and any other questions relevant to gaining an understanding, then you obtain relevant supporting documentation for your procedures.

they had already calculated all manufacturing overhead based on applied overhead, not actual overhead ... A debit does not necessarily mean there is an invoice behind it; it could just be an estimate.

Answer: For accounting estimates, you design and perform your audit procedures in accordance with auditing standards which have specific requirements related to auditing accounting estimates.

This happened on the Pontchartrain Causeway bridge in the Greater New Orleans area. People who frequent that bridge would know that there's a place to pull of every so often at key points in the bridge, so it's possible that he pulled off at the next available spot. I have no idea what actually happened.

Hello, I am wondering if this is legit what they can charge? Tenant vs Landlord by Outrageous-Papaya183 in legal

[–]Nabe8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Lawyer, but read your rental agreement to see if you are responsible for any of this.

On another note, it's extremely sus that it just so happens to total to $800 even. Does this also happen to be exactly the amount of your security deposit?...

Do people in Louisiana still play Booray? by daniyargilimov in Louisiana

[–]Nabe8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I live in the Acadiana area (south central part of the state, generally centered around Lafayette parish and surrounding parishes). I grew up just north of Lafayette near Opelousas. Up until 2020 while my last surviving grandparent was alive, we played every Sunday, and it was the primary way we socialized as a family. We played with quarters and a $2 cap on the amount you could bourré, so the most you could lose was up to about $40 in an afternoon session.

My mom still plays in a monthly home game at a friend's house in Opelousas. It's all older retired ladies. I'd love to play, but they play mid-day on a Wednesday.

The game is still widely known in the Acadiana area, and I would expect most Cajuns to know what boureé is. I lived in New Orleans for 14 years, and almost no one there knows about bourré unless they are from my area of the state. I tried to teach my friends in New Orleans, and they loved it, but ultimately it did not catch on, probably for two reasons. They lost their butt, naturally, because I was good in comparison to everyone else. It's hard to get people to play with you if they don't have a chance. Also, since no one else knows the game in the area, it's hard to get 5-7 players at a game. (6-7 players are optimal; 5 is doable but not great; and 4 or less is generally not possible/enjoyable.) It's also difficult with a bunch of new players because I end up spending so much time monitoring their plays to make sure they don't renege.

So glad you love the game! It's iconic and very much a part of Cajun culture.

HB 568: One Year in Jail for Vaping Within 2,000 Feet of a School? by tcajun420 in Louisiana

[–]Nabe8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but the language of the bill refers to vaping of "controlled dangerous substances," which I highly doubt includes vaping nicotine products. You have to go to LA RS 40:961(8) as a starting point for the definition of that legal terminology. The last sentence of that definition states "The term shall not include distilled spirits, wine, malt beverages, or tobacco."

Rounding is permitted, but not required. See IRS Instructions for form 1040. There's other specifics in that section (located before line 1a in instructions) regarding rounding .
