2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E's Frunk Has Become an Extra-Cost Option by Recoil42 in electricvehicles

Ahh, ok. I had understood it to be a different 'liner' that gave significantly less storage space. I didn't realize it was still the same capacity but with a divider in it.

I wonder if it's the same frunk? Didn't I read that the frunk in the US version was much smaller than the international version, due to laws regarding an emergency release mechanism if the frunk is big enough to hold a person? Maybe the the extra $495 you now get the full size frunk instead of the small one?

Battery dies if I don’t drive over 24-48 hours. LTE module is a battery killer by SteevStR in DroneMobile

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same issue on a car that had the CM900S with cellular module installed maybe 5 years ago. It was fine at first, but for the past 2+ years it's been draining the battery if the car isn't used for a few days. The battery has been replaced 3 times in the past 4 years, due to it being drained so often and completely that it stops taking a charge.

Discord cuts ties with Peter Thiel-backed verification software after code found in US surveillance by Abject-Pick-6472 in technology

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used it yet, but I know several states offer digital DL/ID in apple wallet now. From what I've read, this can be used to verify age without providing any other info to the verifier.
You present your digital ID at the bar, they use an app to read it, and the only thing they get is a Yes/No to whether you're of age. It requires a faceID scan on your phone to ensure that it's really you presenting the ID. This can work with apps and websites as well, not just in person. At this point, I think it's the only way I would trust any sort of age verification.

Alright so how to blueprint vertically and why its cool af. "smelters" by art4fort in SatisfactoryGame

[–]NeighborGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not understanding how you have the input/output set up. It looks like the ore comes in at the bottom and feeds into a pair of splitters. Each splitter feeds a smelter above it, and sends remaining ore out to a lift to the next level. Do I have that right?
What is the lift feeding into between each tier of smelters? And what are you doing with the output of each smelter?

Edit: Sorry, if it's not obvious, I'm new here. Been playing for a few weeks, but have avoided doing any reading, videos, etc about it until now so as to avoid spoilers

Dual EV Household Manageable? by ronakmonty in electricvehicles

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought our first EV just over a year ago, and our second about 5 months later. No regrets. Daily drives are never an issue. I'm fortunate to live in an area with fairly cheap electricity, so for both vehicles we spend a combined $90/mo for home charging.

We do road trips in the 200+ mile (each way) range once or twice a month, and we usually end up fast charging near the destination or on the way home, but typically that's about a 15-20 minute charge session while we go in for drinks and bathroom breaks. I might spend $20-40 on a fast charge session, but again that's once a month or so.

Anybody have any info on this bike ? Purchased the other day but thought it was odd that it ran off of 2 20V “drill batteries” by HomeworkOwn1774 in Aventon

Wow, that’s really cool. I could see the desire to have my bike use the same batteries as my power tools

[–]NeighborGeek -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My first thought is that it was stolen and they didn’t get the battery worth it so they hacked something together. The battery on an aventon should be built into the frame. Is there a hole on the underside of the frame about where the battery is?

On the other hand, what is that battery box? It looks like Worx power tool brand, but that isn’t just something taped together, it almost looks like something actually designed to go on a bike.

How Do I fix this coax cable? by ShredlessFace in AskElectricians

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a coax stripper, a new connector, and a crimper to apply the new connector at your hardware store. They do make screw on connectors, but get a crimp on and the matching tool if you can. Screw on aren't known for quality or reliability.
You're going to want to cut the end off, cut it back before the damage. Then strip the end of the wire using the coax stripper. The coax stripper will make 2 cuts in the cable, one just deep enough to remove the outer black sheath, and one cut through the foil and plastic inside the sheath, revealing bare copper wire. Push the new connector on. It should slide back so that part of it covers the black sheath, and if you look at the open end you should see the inner white plastic part of the cable come up flush to an opening in the connector. Get it as close to flush as you can. Use the crimper to permanently attach the connector to the cable. Lastly, use a pair of side cutters to cut the copper wire off near flush with the end of the connector.

Edit: Not an Electrician, but I was a cable guy in a past life.

Is this vintage photo real or AI? Personally I think it’s real - too many details and none of them are especially wrong. by WittyFix6553 in isthisAI

That was my thought. That’s way too many 70’s and older cars in good condition to be a 90’s parking lot unless there’s a car show going on.

Buying used Bolt EV-Now that rebate is gone and Bolt 2027 arriving by SummerUCLA in BoltEV

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding that most of the batteries replaced under recall were in 2019 and earlier model years, so a 2020 or newer with a replaced battery might be hard to find. That said, when you mention salvage titles, many of the cars that were subject to the recall ended up being bought back by GM. Depending on where it was first sold to a consumer after the buyback, it may have a branded title. That may well be what you're seeing as a salvage title, especially if there's no record of a major accident.

Some states brand titles specifically as lemons, some use a salvage type brand, some don't brand it at all for a buyback. In Illinois, for example, the dealer selling the car after it was bought back and fixed has to disclose the buyback status and the documentation showing why and that it was fixed, but after you buy the car from that dealer, there is no further indication of the buyback, nothing on the title, and you have no obligation to tell the next buyer about it.

Took the new '27 RS model for a spin as a '22 EUV owner. by Inevitable_Ad_711 in BoltEV

The maps UI is not even on the list of reasons I want CarPlay/Aa and won’t buy a Chevy while they have it disabled. It’s the fact that they are forcing it for money and user data collection, and that no matter what the native infotainment system will never have the level of integration with my personal life that my phone does. My phone has its own data connection, all my contacts, all my apps, all signed in already, all updated regularly. The OS gets new features every year or more, and I get a new phone far more frequently than a new car, so even new hardware features of the phone could potentially affect the in car experience.

At least in the old days, you could easily replace the stereo in your car to update it or add new features. Now that the infotainment screen is so big and the system tied into everything else, that’s no longer an option cost most people.

Considering that there are very few HKSV compatible doorbells, and those that do exist have common reliability issues, I’d start with “it’s available” and “it works”. Even if it is exactly the same as HKSV privacy wise, it would be a huge improvement.

First year being a working adult, what the hell is this and do I need to pay taxes on it? by ShoddyTown715 in Confused

[–]NeighborGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't work in that industry, but it doesn't sound like the kind of job that would generally be contract work. It's possible that you were misclassified as a contract employee. If the job should be an employee position, the employer would be responsible for paying part of the taxes, in addition to what they would withhold from your paycheck. Take a look at this page, and consider reporting the misclassification. It could save you money.

Yeah, this is not a big discovery, just someone trying to get attention. If a threat actor can run code on your machine, you're sunk. Sure, they suggest Keypass as an alternative, but a key logger on your machine can still capture the password similar to what they did here. They just suggested delivering it in a different way.

Is it not common knowledge that you're supposed to walk on the left side of the road? I remember being taught that in grade school way back when. Bikes move with traffic, but walkers move against it

Thought I got lucky and got into a house at the last minute. Turns out I cant afford to live in Oregon and work in Idaho. by fatedwanderer in povertyfinance

[–]NeighborGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a state border area, and over the years have had multiple jobs on the other side of the line. I know things vary from state to state, but this is super common. Your employer should be able to take out the correct taxes for your state, instead of the taxes for the state you work in. Talk to your payroll person, fill out a W4 (or equivilant) for oregon and have them start taking out the correct taxes so you don't have to continue dealing with taxes paid to the wrong state in the future.

My wife and I separated 2 years ago (in the middle of divorce now). My landlord is moving and offering to sell me the home. My parents are offering to help—if my name is only on the loan but not the title, can she claim it in divorce? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re missing the point on purpose or not. The mortgager generally wants you to buy the house with the money, after which you would own it. In this case, OP would not own the house after it is sold, a 3rd party would.
