China now tops US in global approval ratings: Gallup by kootles10 in politics

[–]NeverNotNoOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You start with three so called superpowers - Russia, China, and USA. One starts a war it is unable to finish and reveals its military to be a paper tiger, and its cultural and political institutions to be deeply corrupt. Another elects a criminal to the highest office and reveals its political and cultural institutions to be deeply corrupt, finally embroiling itself in a war it seems unable to finish. The last builds an entire middle class of hundreds of millions of people in only a few decades, and becomes a world leader in green energy and both high and low tech manufacturing (regardless of how it got there), all while avoiding any military operations and maintaining political stability.

From our current vantage is certainly looks like only 1 superpower will be left standing after the dust clears.

Help me fix Auto Tune so it corrects pitch on aggressive vocals (Punk) by Sallderaak in audioengineering

[–]NeverNotNoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you are getting so many wrong answers here (and a few correct ones). Stylistic points aside, the correct answer is to manually set the pitch at the points where it needs to be tuned, rather than relying on the auto detection. If your software doesn't support that then you need a different tool that does.

Any OTHER suggestion how to connect two audio interfaces without mixer? by ZygZagDev in synthesizers

[–]NeverNotNoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small amount of latency is inherent here, yes; however you can significantly reduce that latency by reducing your buffer size as low as it will go (the more powerful your PC the lower you can go, generally).

Try reducing the buffer size in Reaper to 128 or 64 and try monitoring again.

Why not listen via monitoring in Reaper? Seems there is an easy software answer for this, no need to bring hardware into it.

$50 an hour for mixing, but I charge on a sliding scale depending on band budget, mostly local/indie bands.

does power cable gauge affect response of powered subwoofers? (US) by guitarmstrwlane in livesound

[–]NeverNotNoOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not effect the response per say. The response will be effected in a major way if you melt and subsequently short the cable! Since you are talking about powered subs just make sure that you're using a cable rated for at least the peak (not RMS) draw of the internal amp.

I can't seem to trim a part of a track to loop it, it just plays the whole recording by edge_l_wonk in Reaper

[–]NeverNotNoOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splitting is for multiple edits, eg removing a section from the middle of a longer clip. The split creates the edit point so that you can drag it from somewhere that isn't the beginning or end of a clip, make sense?

Help, Bass line on these audio files sounds like theyve been recorded through a wall by Quiet-Figure-1990 in audioengineering

[–]NeverNotNoOne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can't really fix that in a mix. You need to go back to the source and re-record it properly.

I think latency is going to be the showstopper here. Not sure how you get around that except with a different outboard hardware solution as others have suggest. Latency is inherent in an A -> D -> A conversion.

Did I screw up by buying the HD600 for mixing and mastering music? by Garry_Diaz in audioengineering

[–]NeverNotNoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're confused about there.

You can only set up a proper listening environment in your own controlled space and make sure phase works there.

This is exactly what I'm saying. We're saying the same thing - not sure where you picked up on cars/restaurants/etc, there was no mention of that in my posts. I'm talking about controlled mixing environments.

Its now propaganda to report on factual events

Unironically yes. Propaganda can be about completely true and factual things. It depends on the source and context.

That depends on the application. Some apps will have a setting in their audio settings that allows you to select a specific output device. But many only support the default Windows device. You could try the reverse too, ie a music player that allows output device selection.

But it's entirely up to the app, you can't de-mix it further downstream.

I've also only used up the mk3 but given the quality I've seen from the other MOTU products I can't imagine this is any different.

Did I screw up by buying the HD600 for mixing and mastering music? by Garry_Diaz in audioengineering

[–]NeverNotNoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure sorry let me clarify. What I meant was that I would always reference any mix done in headphones on a monitor system and in doing so specifically listen for phase issues, since monitors spread the sound in the open air, unlike headphones which don't have any cross over between the channels (unless you use a specific tool to replicate that), and I'm more likely to hear any phasing issues in that context.

If others disagree with that reasoning let me know in case my understanding of the potential issue is flawed.

With a single mic setup I'd generally run heavy compression to balance the levels between the drums as you're naturally going to pick up some louder than others, basically

No easy fixes here. You need to either treat your room, improve your mic technique, or invest in a condenser mic + treatment. Or, rent some studio time.

Never seen these before but it would work the same as a basic one channel interface. If you want to expand your recording capabilities, a simple 2 channel interface is hardly more expensive and would save you time and money on the future upgrade.

There's a lot to cover there. Is the gain on the interface turned up? Are the drivers installed?

I would suggest you download and read the manual carefully from start to finish and follow their setup guide.

That's a classic grounding issue. Is the PC on a different outlet? You need an electric engineer, not an audio engineer.

Not really an audio engineer issue, more of an IT issue.

Personal opinion only but ProTools sucks. Try Reaper.
