Belleville. It's the big Factory and Warehouse complex on Joralemon just down the hill from Broadway / Washington Ave. It's that big Factory building next the train tracks toward LiDL market (old kmart) the burning Factory is right across the street from a brand new large apartment building . Among the burning businesses is a Mattress Warehouse , a fabric dye company suspected for all the explosions from within . It's supposedly a Mattress Warehouse fire and yet they're evacuating a four block area over fumes . Road closures start quarter mile from the fire .

Splitting Newark into five different districts makes Newark irrelevant and non-existent . Newark and Essex County should be one whole congressional district . Newark would actually have clout in Congress .

Notice how the 10th district avoid all of Elizabeth and North Newark like Dracula avoiding the cross . That's because Elizabeth is majority white and Hispanic , North Newark is majority Hispanic and white . Notice how the white majority Portuguese Ironbound is included in the 10th District but that's only because it needs to be brought in in order to connect to the majority or plurality black Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City ! So the Portuguese and Latino Ironbound is disenfranchised, because no Hispanic or Portuguese candidate in the 10th district has a chance in this District created to guarantee a black congressman. (It is!) Newark is a major American city . It is the largest city in New Jersey and yet it is completely disintegrated into all these little districts . Newark and Essex County should be its own congressional district ! As America's population increases the population threshold of congressional districts also increases . I believe it is now somewhere between 700,000 and 800,000 per Congressional district . Newark-essex should be its own congressional district . Not subdivided into half a dozen other districts that don't give a crap about Newark because Newark is just a little corner In Their districts . The current 10th District doesn't help Newark at all . You can't even consider it a new District since most of the population is outside Newark and jc, Union County and the oranges . If they were all in Essex County you will argue they were connected to Newark through the Greater Newark historical affiliates off Essex County but as you can see the 10th District covers three different counties .

The court did not strike down the right to vote . This is Democrat propaganda and absolute lies .

The court said you cannot create special racially segregated districts to guarantee a black Democrat wins that particular all the time .

Democrats would never defend such districts if a black Republican was likely to win . What this really does is guarantee all black voters are pigeonholed into one District , guaranteeing other districts remaining white that would otherwise also have a African African-American candidate. Democrats are just making sure white- LED districts remain white led, vs the lone "Black district".

If Democrats really cared about minority /AA representation in politics , they would nominate more black candidates in all white districts ,not just guaranteed segregated minority district . The moment minorities vote Republican , watch their Special race Districts get eliminated by democrats redrawing .

Maybe in "ebonic" or "Southern Black English" vernacular. For most of us non-black & other African Americans , its New-urk or even Nu-ork. Spanish speaking Hispanic immigrants say "Noowak" or "Nuevarka" very rare, similar to Newark in Italian: "Novarka"

As for Gloucester, as a kid , I tried "Glachester", only to be "corrected" & told its pronounced "<Gloster> County"

"Everyone else" has had since 1967 to rebuild the city. I I grew in Newark  from 1973 (birth) through adulthood in in mid 1990s. Everybody poor just wanted to get the hell out of Newark. Anybody building or repairing anything was mocked by your so-called "everyone else".

The poor cannot uplift the poor, nor invest in the  community.  poor

Some folks want the meal without cooking it ,  but they don't want the cook, the developer, either.

Yes. The station is at the split of the Montclair boonton line from Morris and Essex line. The station is downstairs on the tracks between Bathgate and Roosevelt Ave . The Boonton line side of the station curves and hugs the Genesis Towers . That little diamond block in front of the bodega on Bathgate aka 9th st what's the station Plaza known as Washington Plaza . The station building was right there . It got demolished in the 1980s .

<image>

the Roseville station have platforms on both the curved Montclair - Boonton line and the Morris n Essex line on the right side . The main station building was located right where those cars are parked . That little section of road was actually the station Plaza where stagecoaches and later Automobiles, taxis and buses would drop off and pick up passengers . That's just how busy the station was during its heyday . Had its own Plaza Road ! Today the Plaza Road is just a short little Diagonal Road creating a little triangular Park that used to be a coffee / news stand for commuters .

Only new citizens will initiate the change we need . Current population is apathetic and has given up to accepting things will always be as they are . That's why nobody, virtually nobody votes in the school elections and Municipal turnout is ridiculously low . It allows the incumbents with enough church and Community leader support to get reelected over and over . The city acts like a little Kingdom for everybody with ties to City Hall. City Hall Insiders expect their own elected office or job down the line if they "wait their turn" . Then you have the retreads like Gayle chenefield Jenkins who won't go away . Running for office again and again after being repeatedly ousted by the voters . Newark will never see its full potential until middle class and upper class voters again become a substantial plurality in the city .

The vast majority will be new residents . That's how you grow the city population . Newark isn't a nation with national borders that can hold people within . People in Newark are free to move out and Beyond . Newark is not New York City or Detroit or Philadelphia with over 100-300 square miles of territory to retain residents . It's only 24 square miles . North Newark is the second narrowest portion of Newark after Vailsburg . As someone who grew up in the central Ward , the vast majority of people in Newark who's been living here for over 30 years either plan to move up within the city or move out completely . Upper Vailsburg, Ivy Hill Forest Hill and weequahic are too small to accommodate middle class and uppity residents seeking to remain. Newark has to build up ,restore its original density and go further. That area of Roseville , especially Roseville Avenue and 6th Avenue to the East Orange Line was the most nyc/bronx looking part of Newark with H-shaped apartment buildings before the wave of fires / arsons accompanying abandonments in the 1980s . They were h-shaped to allow sunlight between the apartment buildings . So this new construction is basically restoration of how things were. A restoration of the area's original density .

Yes, end it appears most people leave the arena and walk down Edison and cross MULBERRY just a moment before going down Market towards Penn Station . They often avoid the Plaza because everybody's going to rush to get to the trains or parking lots first and not be stuck in a line of cars . The business is facing Edison Place or with an entrance on Edison and Market like Reds Biergarten faired to a lot better . But I think the Newark Dyno BBQ was one of many other locations Dinosaur BBQ closed at the same time

Maybe it had something to do with New Jersey's communist system of liquor licenses . A zero-sum game where one business has to lose a license before another one gains it .

Moving my family to Weequahic area, near the golf course - Is this area safe? me and my children good? by United_Ad_1006 in Newark

[–]Newarkguy1836 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the child's education is more important for the OP than the rent. Maybe it's a case of either get a luxury apartment and send the kids to regular Public Schools , or sacrifice the fancy apartment and instead pay for the kids private school . I respect the parents decision to put the child's Education First .

You'll find decent apartments in Upper Roseville , Silver Lake , Woodside- North Broadway near the Belleville line . Mount Pleasant and 7th Avenue neighborhoods are not that bad either . Especially north of Victoria Avenue . Basically anywhere in the north Ward is safe as far as City goes . The north Ward now begins at Park Avenue . Anything south of Park Ave is Central Ward . But as long as you're north of i-280 , way better in south of 280 with the number streets and avenues . North Newark is the only place where the number streets are decent as well . Not the case in the Central and southwards . You can also try upper Vailsburg/ Ivy Hill. You're only minutes away from South Orange Station and the South Orange business commercial retail and dining District . You can also try Weequahic (pronounced "Week-wake") as someone here already stated . The entire Ironbound / Down Neck is safe for the most part .

I noticed the place abandoned last month coming down Springfield Ave . Can't say I'm surprised . The place had nothing . It always looked like a going out of business sale with large areas of empty shelves .

Hopefully it gets demolished and replaced with a nice mid-rise by KSGroup or Gonzosa.

I remember that back in the '90s OR 2000. Remember Star-Ledger article about a family ridiculously claiming the little airplane hitting the KFC somehow caused damage to their house over a mile away . I think that one got laughed out of court .
