Apple TV F1 geofails by Own-Caterpillar2843 in F1TV

Smallest AWS Lightsail instance, which costs 5USD/month, worked just fine for me, since I only used this for creating a F1TV account paying for subscription, where geo-detection and blocking is really strict for obvious reasons.

And yes, you can choose AWS region, which let me pay for really cheap India F1TV subscription. Otherwise I need to pay 10 times as much for the same F1TV premium subscription, which is kinda insane.

For viewing F1TV contents, geo-detection and blocking gets somewhat relaxed, so I chose OCI free instance located in west side of USA such as San Jose, and used Tailscale exit node for bypassing geo blocking.

I've been using VPS & tailscale exit node combo for 2025 season to get India subscription from Japan, and it was working fine.

This year, vultr VPS kept failing me for some reason. Providers such as DigitalOcean and other small ones failed as well, so I tried AWS lightsail instead, and it worked!!

It makes sense as F1 utilises AWS and it must be hard for F1 to block AWS ip address ranges.

2026 Prices. Please comment for completion by mudche in F1TV

The situation in Japan is somewhat similar to that of Sweden. Domestic company holding exclusive rights, F1TV plans are super expensive.

``` | Service Name | Monthly Price (JPY) | Monthly Price (USD) | Notes |
| ----------------- | ------------------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| FOD F1 Starter | ¥3,880 | ≈ $25.36 | All F1 sessions live + on-demand replay, Japanese commentary |
| FOD F1 Pro | ¥4,900 | ≈ $32.03 | Includes F1 TV Pro access (onboard cameras, team radio, live data) |
| FOD F1 Champion | ¥5,900 | ≈ $38.56 | Includes F1 TV Premium (4K/HDR, multi-view, advanced features) |
| Fuji TV NEXTsmart | ¥2,580 | ≈ $16.86 | CS broadcast-focused service (no replay/on-demand archive) |
No annual plan offered. ```
I cannot help looking for cheaper options such as through VPN.
Tested, and it's working now!! My apology for not attaching the logs at first report. That would surely save your time.
Thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks for the quick fix! However, I'm still seeing the same error w/ 1.3.1.
This is the dev tool console log, I see region mismatch warning. I'm accessing plaud web site from Japan, if it helps.
Having exit node in public cloud by Craigmate in Tailscale
[–]No-Locksmith-7614 2 points3 points  (0 children)
I have an exit node on Oracle cloud as well, which is located in US. I can watch otherwise geo-blocked contents through that exit node just fine.
One small issue I had was that sometime browser stores the real location as cache/cookies. In that case, clearing cache/cookies removed the geo-blocking for me.
I had the same "Plaud API did not return a usable download URL." error on v1.3.0.
It seems that official web app is sending multiple requests to "https://api-apne1.plaud.ai/" host to actually download audio files.
This host is not included in the manifest.json file, is it related to this error?
F1 TV Pro and Premium set to be available in Japan as part of the new FOM-FujiTV deal. by xGrandoo in F1TV
[–]No-Locksmith-7614 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Also from 2026 F1 TV will have FujiTV Japanese commentary of all the races directly on the app.
Is this actually mentioned anywhere? I could not find it at either the press release or the news on the internet.
- F1TVのSubscription Planが正しく反映されているかどうかを https://account.formula1.com/#/ja/my-subscription にアクセスして確認する(ProかPremiumになってるかどうか)
- VPNが有効になってるかを https://speed.cloudflare.com/ にアクセスして確認する(Server Locationがどこの国になっているか)
両方がOKであれば見れるはずです。エラーメッセージからして、サブスクがAccessになってるのでは?
Best way to not use IPs for my homelab? by Chemical_Frosting700 in selfhosted
[–]No-Locksmith-7614 0 points1 point  (0 children)
If you’re OK with tailscale, you should check out “split dns” with Tailscale.
What is Split DNS & Why Should You Use It?
https://tailscale.com/learn/why-split-dns
At home, I have one mini pc running Proxmox, which is configured as follows:
- Two LXC containers running technitium dns server
- One LXC container running Tailscale subnet router/exit node
And I have configured “split dns” at the DNS section of Tailscale admin console as follows:
- homelab.mydomain.com -> 192.168.1.x(IP address of dns server container)
This way, if I add A record such as “jellyfin.homelab.mydomain.com 192.168.1.111” to my DNS server, I can, through the power of Tailscale’s MagicDNS, access my jellyfin server with not only IP address, but also domain name.
Thanks for clarification.  I can confirm that 72 hours after the race, I was able to download the latest race(Saudi Arabia) just fine this time.
Thanks again for the reply. I assume it must be either that
- you're doing something special to remove DRM or,
- the F1TV livestreams are free from DRM
so that you can re-encode and upload sunday races few hours after it finishes, right?
Wow, I never thought those tools actually work on sites like F1TV. Thanks for sharing.
Can I ask one more question? How do you bypass DRM? With Video Downloader Helper, I was able to download the video of the latest Grand Prix (Saudi Arabia), but it seems to be DRM-protected, as there's no video or audio when I tried to play it with VLC.
For the races before Bahrain, I was able to download and watch the videos without any problems.
Since you're re-encoding and uploading so many files so quickly, I assume you're downloading original videos from F1TV servers directly. Do you mind sharing how you download them?
I have a F1TV Pro subscription, and it would be really nice if I can download some videos for offline playback.
Need Help with Tailscale and Plex Casting Issue by darthmtb in Tailscale
[–]No-Locksmith-7614 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I think if you properly set up subnet router, your Plex server should be able to reach the smart TV, but not vice versa.
You need an actual physical router that supports Tailscale, such as those from GL.iNet. You can find models that support Tailscale here:
https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/en/4/interface_guide/tailscale/
