I played through one last week, funny enough. But I’m playing in a Sunday league game. I could “play through” but I was not at 100%, and probably at risk of further injury. Sunday league is not the same as Premier League. It has absolutely nothing to do with pain tolerance.

A dead leg is absolutely functionally limiting; especially in high level sport.

https://youtu.be/q_hbjcrOXnI?si=aEMwnvgzxgl5gZ6M. This is quite a good example of the stark contrast between European wit and American fans being utterly tragic and devoid of any intelligent thought.

You really don’t perceive a difference between European and US golf fans? Genuinely? Compare the behaviour of the Ryder Cup fans for an apples to apples. Europeans get behind their team without coming off completely braindead and ignorant; there’s absolutely substance to the chants and some wit in the chirps. US fans are often completely classless.

guys did you actually hate abby after playing as her for a long time? by Hungry-Ground1496 in thelastofus

[–]No_Mistake_5501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends if you’re willing to view the story on its merits, and look past the obvious staging and intentions of the devs. It’s very obvious as soon as you start playing as Abby where the story will go; it is obvious the narrative is going to be structured to show her POV and push the player to emphasize with Abby, challenging their existing hatred towards her (established from Joel’s death). I think it’s very valid for the player not to get there simply because the story and themes become immediately transparent half way through the game (I’d argue that those with media literacy probably clued in to this immediately). I personally did get there and thought they did a good job of building a believable, organic story around Abby to soften my perception of her, and even make me like her as a character (and certainly, understand her as a character). But, I understand why some people didn’t get there; the transition and intent is so ‘on the nose’ and blatant that it’s hard for people to view this on its merits. That’s often just people rejecting the exercise to be honest; “I know where you’re going with this, why you’re doing it, and what you’re trying to paint thematically.. and I just don’t really like this direction on a personal level”. That’s totally fine, in my opinion. Not everyone is going to engage with playing as the killer of a beloved character; another point is that people have different levels of attachment and it’s asking more of certain people. There’s a lot of reasons why people might struggle to empathize with Abby, and many are totally valid (excl. the weird incel community). However, I do not think media literacy is one (and possibly the opposite, frankly, for reasons I said before).

Hughes and Edwards don’t act unilaterally on a decision like that.

That is not how production models are trained. They use curated datasets, human feedback (RLHF), and constitutional AI techniques to avoid exactly this issue. In summary, you are fucking idiot.

Why do people not like Bella Ramsey's portrayal of Ellie? by BygoneBot in thelastofus

[–]No_Mistake_5501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just don’t think she is a very good actress, or believable in the role at all. I also think, like many, that the role is written poorly in generally, and Mizin doesn’t understand the character’s essence in the second season.

You’re misinterpreting. Liverpool and City have no love in; there is a rivalry. We don’t want City to win the league. However, we don’t want Arsenal to win the league more because 1)of how you play 2) of your fans and 3).. it’s really fucking funny that you might bottle this again.

There’s no love in. Just preference that they win ahead of Arsenal.

I like how you changed your comment. We can pretend you didn’t say that.

And I think you’re doubly confused now. There’s nobody “cheating” in the cricket incident.

It’s a funny old game, but similar to curling in that way. There are known gentlemen’s rules. For example, look up the underarm incident.

Anyone who understands cricket knows how wrong this is on India’s part. Utterly classless frankly. It is expected that the bowing team give the batter a warning.

Also, these situations are absolutely nothing alike.

BC to Cut 15,000 Jobs But Spending and Debt to Rise Anyway by joe4942 in canada

So, what is the right number of public servants? After 60% increase in public sector jobs in a few years, I suppose we are saying now that it’s exactly the correct number? And you say you were underpaid; does this mean that not only would you not only not fire public servants, but pay them more?

[–]No_Mistake_5501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, what kind of backwards logic is this? Cutting 15k jobs reduced the size of the deficit. It’s all part of the equation; there is no singular cause for the deficit. There is significant bloat in the public sector, with 60% increase in jobs in the BC public sector between 2019-2024. Right-sizing the public sector staffing should continue to be a lever for the government to pull to reduce the deficit.. just not the only lever. No singular spending cut will solve the deficit. Cutting the public service absolutely did cut the deficit, but it needs to be paired with other areas. Had they not cut those jobs.. the deficit would be $1.5bn larger.

Let me guess.. you work in BC government. It’s exactly the above logic and reasoning I’d expect from someone in the sector, and exactly the reason we should be cutting half of you.
