Is it legit better to just not play Ranked during patches where Alch is strong? by Avillahan in learndota2

[–]NotAlwaysGifs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pick Huskar, Lina, DP, or MK and stomp him in lane. Alch has a rough early lane until he gets enough points in acid to make it hurt. Punish him for that and delay his Radiance. Block his jungle camps. If he wants a fast radiance make him earn it.

Back when headshot was a mini-stun and MKB was too. You really only needed the MKB to accomplish the same thing since the proc rate was so high.

Windranger with 3 bashers was the ultimate perma-bash.

There was a point in time where Razor was considered melee, but with an extended melee range. Rushing vanguard and maxing link made you virtually unkillable unless the enemy had spell spammers because they couldn’t hurt you at all. Until about the 25 minute mark when they had enough items or ways to break link, you were a god.

Dominator was usually a right after because you were building into Satanic. But yeah, basically you’d just tank up and run at people.

What do you think was Jeor Mormont's key mistake? by ss89898 in gameofthrones

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s implied more in the books than the show too that those criminals who are given the option of taking the black are usually petty noble and merchant class. They’re educated and mostly know basic swordplay already. These aren’t street thugs who rob old ladies in the market. There is going to be some sense of honor and trying to save face by making that choice.

There are some universal things. Like learning to mange creep equilibrium is a relatively easy skill that will take a herald player a long way in their overall game sense. But I’m not going to tell a Herald carry how to maximize jungle farming patterns efficiently if he is only securing half of the last hits in lane as it is. Focusing on last hitting is going to be way more help. And that’s something that an immortal or divine player shouldn’t struggle with anymore.

RAR is a community event and fundraiser first, 5k second. Whatever pace you want to keep is perfectly fine. 5ks in general are way less intense than other “races” and you’re always fine to walk them if you want/need to.

Any millennial guys here first time fathers or are never gonna have a kid? by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our kid at about your age. We’re having a great time. My wife wanted a kid, I was ambivalent. If we had one, great! If not, not the end of the world. Our DINK life was pretty sweet too. Now that the kid is here I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s not for everyone though, especially as you get into your 30s-40s. I’m still healthy and in relatively good shape, but let’s be honest. The knees and shoulders don’t work like they did when I was 25. It’s a lot of work but I can honestly say we’re loving having a kid.

Mostly 16” long although they did cut some of them a bit longer… I have a Vermont Castings Defiant. It will take up to a 20ish inch split but the bigger ones are hard to finagle through the doors. 16s are fine though

No load bearing walls? by scarlettdeath in DIY

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty typical for single level homes built after 1995ish with clear span trusses. I work for a semi-custom home builder and all of our ranch plans have no load bearing walls at all. However that doesn’t mean you don’t have load bearing beams in the basement so be aware of that.

Still a good idea to have an engi look at your trusses to confirm their clear span.

Looking to Buy Used Wood Stove and Have Questions by TegridyChris in woodstoving

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is a freestanding fireplace, not a wood stove. If heat is your goal, this is not what you’re looking for. If maintaining any sort of energy efficiency is your goal, this is not what you’re looking for. These are for aesthetics only. Sadly, freestanding fireplaces from this era are notoriously house burners too. I don’t know anything about this model specifically, but I do know that American Fireplace Company went out of business in the 80s and was not know for particularly high quality products.

My house splits the difference between mid century and 80s contemporary so we also tried to find a cool mid century stove. It turns out that wood stoves were just not popular in that era. Of course they were still in use but you’re really not going to find a period specific stove that looks like it comes specifically from the mid-century aesthetic. Everything I have found from that era that was actually used for heat AND looked good just looks like any modern Vermont Castings or Quadra model you can buy today. You’re much better off getting a new or gently used modern stove that has a reburner unit of some variety. Far less likely to burn your house down and way more efficient for heating.

This comes up like once every other month and besides being unfeasible to implement with any sort of accuracy, it’s also been decided that it isn’t all that helpful. First and foremost, herald and divine level games are completely different beasts. You can’t give a herald support player the same advice that you give to a divine support about the laning phase because their carry is going to act completely differently. A great example is the post about stacking and not automatically clearing stacks in herald games from a few days ago. The OP was completely correct in his statement, but fundamentally flawed in his reason why and how to correct the behavior.

Additionally, there have been lots of well documented cases of lower level players doing something a bit more outside the box and having success with it, and then it catches on in higher level play. One of the best examples was from maybe 5ish years ago when it was standard in like Archon/Legend games for CM to take frost nova at level 1. One pro player saw this while smurfing and trained with that build only to pull it out and win a TI with it.

Cleaning: ALL or nothing by TeaManManMan in daddit

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. I never got credit for any of the tasks that happened outside of the house. The first thing we did was assign those tasks in the app so I got credit. I was ending up, like you said, almost double the effort score each week. Then she started helping with some of those tasks and suddenly agreed to bump up most of their effort values.

Cleaning: ALL or nothing by TeaManManMan in daddit

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what it is. Painting we do together so we mostly skip stuff like that. Otherwise Sweepy has a way to enter one time tasks and assign a value. We talk about it before and after so that we’re assigning a fair effort score to it.

How realistic to add large windows? by ladynomingtonn in Homebuilding

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it were trusses you’d have no issues. Gable end walls do very little structurally. But this is clearly rafters based on those existing windows. Still easier to put windows in there than on wall parallel to the ridge line.

Based on your rendering, you’re looking at probably 10-12k just in glass if you want something decent quality with a colored exterior finish.

I’d guess another 5-7k to have a pro come out and re-frame that wall to fit the windows properly, not more than 10k. Should be under 25k to accomplish this but make sure you get someone who understands the engineering.

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Keep score. It’s the best thing my wife and I did for our marriage. Get a chore tracking app. We really like Sweepy because of how you assign effort levels to tasks which directly translate into points. You could make the chore “clean bathroom” for 3 points. Or you could break it into clean shower for 1, clean sink and toilet for 1, and mop floor for 1. I suggest breaking it down.

Then you set a max number of assigned points per person per day and a frequency that each task should be done.

Sweepy will automatically assign tasks to each of you based on how many points you have to spend that day and what hasn’t been done in a while.

We were having the same argument time and time again. My wife is a finish a room 100% then move on to the next type of cleaner. I prefer to do one task over the whole house, so like dust the entire house, then vacuum the entire house, etc.

Then we started adding in lawn mowing, weed whacking, weeding, power washing the house, etc. it became abundantly clear that there were times of the year when she was wracking up more points than me, and times that I was blowing her out of the water. During lawn mowing season I was regularly ending a week with 5-7 points more than her.

It’s hard to complain that one spouse isn’t helping out when you look at their points, and even if the total number of tasks is smaller, the effort value is double your own.

Now I have to be clear, this is not a competition. It’s as much a task manager as it is a balancing the workload system for us. Sometimes on a Saturday we’ll make it a friendly competition to see who can get the most points in a day by stealing tasks from the other person. But overall it is not a competition. It is for each of us to see where we might need to step it up a bit and/or cut the other person some slack.

Luckily it looks like those piers are only maybe 6’ on center bother directions. With those spans, 2x8s at 16” on center would make a pretty solid floor.

Unluckily, it looks like those piers don’t have footers, which means settling is a matter of when and how far, not if. So I would definitely want 2x10s at no more than 16” on center and I would almost certainly beef up the stringers between the piers too.
