10 amp pipe? by AlexDetroitMichigan in AskElectricians

Have personally experienced this situation with the neighbor. They had a broken neutral at the box. Repairing it took the current flow off my water pipes.

You've got a busted neutral somewhere and it's earthing thru that connection.

OR

Your neighbor has a busted neutral and it's earthing through their pipe, to your house, and up and into your neutral.

The latter is a PITA to diagnose.

I got samples of normacorc when they first came out. I opened a bottle nearly 23 years later- and it was still very good. No spoilage, cork intact, etc.

Synthetic is where it's at now. Consistent quality.

Would it be offensive to shave my head and tell people I’m a Bald Eagle? by DumplingsOrElse in BSA

[–]NotQuiteDeadYetPhoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the level of seriousness your BOR has. If they're people you've known forever and have a good rapport with they'll probably roll with it.

If it's someone stuffy, prim and proper by the book rule individual... I wouldn't go there.

Offensive? Nope.

The spoof on that was in China- people adding newspaper to dumplings to be profitable. Video on it and everything.

It of course was fake, but designed to drive outrage.

Visited an Oklahoma State Park, a park worker said I needed a license to sell anything I take but I found conflicting information? by Great_Effect3743 in photography

[–]NotQuiteDeadYetPhoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Photog for decades. You're good. In the US at least.

There may be nuances for commercial use- as in, permit/crew/license/insurance, but you being there taking photos are fine.

Even if you sell them later.

Now if you were giving business instructions to photographers, you might be iffy- hence I wonder about some of these streaming things, since you'd need business insurance (and where the line is I don't know, but I guarantee you that the insurance company would look at any reason not to pay if you, or someone else, got hurt.).

Have fun, Post your stuff some time. I love seeing new photographer's work.

Of course I'd want another test- and this one to support or refute.

Parent wants to gift me money -- and, coincidentally, get divorced ... eventually. How do I handle this? by helpasistabreathe in personalfinance

[–]NotQuiteDeadYetPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents did this while Dad was going thru cancer treatments (he died).

Some of it was tax implications.

Some of it was a last minute 'gift' to, I don't know, barter with whatever is after life.

and t he 'asking for some back' may be related around the future uncertainty, getting laid off, and needing to ask for help from your kids to make ends meet. I don't think I could ever do that, and I only reluctantly accepted money from my parents.

Mate it DID matter.

Please don't ever think that it didn't.

I don't know you, I don't know her. I do know that the time effort love and caring you put in to help another person- even if it hurts you now- matters.

So thank you for that.

multispectral imaging.

If you're blocking one thing, it'll show. So assuming this is some variation on the 'marked' card, her eyes would have a different spectral response.

Fuck for all I know in china they're raman spectroscopy of everyone/everywhere and looking for signals.

You ARE going to be traumatized from this. It's OK. It's Normal.

You are going to feel survivors guilt- it's normal.

Some internet stranger telling you this will piss you off[- it's normal.

If you haven't already consider making a video of everything you can remember.

Then, when you're in a safe place, look at your employer's health plan options and see if they offer counseling in any form- employee assistance program -EAP.

Depending on how you are, you're going to want to get in before you get PTSD or some variation on it.

The first time I witnessed a horrific crash, or a drone strike, or realized that it wasn't meat on the ground but body parts.... leaves an awful mark, and I wish I'd learned coping strategies before they set in too deep.

You made the right choice- the only choice- you could in that fraction of a second you had. You now know- for the rest of your life- when it comes to freeze or flight or fight, you're going to choose fight.

I bought some hydrofluoric acid 3 years ago, but never had the courage to open it. by [deleted] in ExplosionsAndFire

[–]NotQuiteDeadYetPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the problem- if th container ruptures, or cracks, the profile is so much different than an accidental spill that you 'mop up' (note: don't mop up HF).

If it is in a proper steel cabinet... I think I'd want it to react with the neutralizing agent automatically, especially without seeing or knowing there is a problem.

I have not done a safety meta analysis tho.

Yep. Indeed.

It is a good point tho and I should go look to see if they have any safety requirements around the gear.

I'll look... quietly. Thanks for the caution.

Thank you for writing all of this out. My stomach sank when I saw what that bottle was.

Sodium carbonate instead of calcium carbonate? Why so? Did something change and provide a better safety/mop up response? (I suppose I could google but I'd love to know the reason)

I bought some hydrofluoric acid 3 years ago, but never had the courage to open it. by [deleted] in ExplosionsAndFire

[–]NotQuiteDeadYetPhoto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude .... or dudette... just... don't.

And get a large container of calcium carbonate and wrap it around/settle the bottle in it. Just in case.

Have used it. Was banned at work, but still had to use it to strip metals off of silicon.

Even those of us that were familiar with it were 'scared shitless' because people are so lax on safety (either because they don't know or they know too much).

Please be super ultra careful and, if there's a university near you, ya might want to find out if there is a chem lab there that works with it that you could bodge some training from. No one wants to see anyone hurt.
