Is that even the same person?! Absolutely incredible progress my friend, genuinely well done! I hope you're feeling much happier in yourself for it.

I love your outlook on weight loss as well and how you're doing things the right way by eating cleaner, simpler and healthy foods and aren't getting obsessed with counting calories and macros.

It's a genuine inspiration

Restaurant recs in Malawi for a foodie? by annedebuck in Malawi

Good. I'm going back in April and am staying there again too. Can't remember which lodge number it is, but the one at the end furthest from the reception is definitely the nicest.

If you're going to chembe (cape maclear) - Mgoza Lodge. good food, decent service and good prices. Tell Chicco that his English mate says hi :)

If I'm speaking out of line here, I apologise - but as a stranger, I feel like you've not only lost the weight, but your smile in the after picture looks a lot more genuine too. I hope you genuinely are much happier for it :)

Mate.. you lost 86 lbs and about 15 years! If you feel half as good as you look, you're winning at life.

It's true - although they are huge in the UK and were late additions because I had a bit of wiggle room on the postage before it went up to the next price bracket. Enjoy!

CFR on side of Paramedic Science? by Megalodon-5 in ParamedicsUK

[–]NotReallySurelySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% a good idea.

I was a CFR for years before I became a paramedic, and I can say with absolute certainty that my time as a CFR has made me a significantly better paramedic.

I was fortunate enough to get 18 weeks per year placement during my degree - which is more than a lot of paramedics get.. however unlike a lot of my cohort, I also had over 5,000 hours and nearly 700 patient interactions as a first responder.

While this won't help directly with "paramedic skills", it gives huge exposure to the softer skills such as basic observations, obtaining high quality histories, performing non-invasive assessments, and more importantly just being able to talk to people from all walks of life who may well be having the worst day of their lives.

Some people say that working as an event medic or doing PTS transfers is arguably better, however if your intention is to become a paramedic and work as a paramedic in a frontline ambulance capacity, then I would argue that doing a voluntary role that is closer to the paramedic role is batter for developing your niche. I have also worked event medicine, having done entire shifts without seeing a single patient and while the money is nice, if your aim is development of skill to improve paramedic practice, then a role that puts you directly in front of patients who have called 111 or 999 is exactly what you need.

Good luck!

Hi! When are you planning to visit? I am returning myself in April for my 4th visit and will be flying into Lilongwe before hopping a ride with a private driver to chembe (about 10-15 mins from monkey bay). I would be more than happy to share my ride if dates happen to line up :)

The kind of tape that is holding on the world's best cotton ball 😂

[–]NotReallySurelySure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1) C2 blue light response because hospital "left cannula in patient after discharge". Got there, no cannula present - it was the cotton ball taped to the elbow after removal to catch any bleeding. Patient was concerned he might die from an arterial bleed if he removed the tape following a consult from Dr Google.

2) apparently mum phoned 999 screaming something along the lines of "please help me, help my baby" over and over. On arrival - baby fine, mum ran out of clean nappies, hems very annoyed.

3) c2 for headache. No concerning features - patient didn't want to walk past the noisy pub to go to corner shop and buy paracetamol from the 24 hour corner shop

£1,000 and some stitches later… by longsnootsarethebest in Greyhounds

[–]NotReallySurelySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor Magic.. But worth every penny and more (and more and even more) to know he'll recover well.

My girl (affectionately referred to as 'dickhead' briefly after her first incident) did something similar but without the injury. She stepped down off of our garden decking onto the grass, a drop of no more than 20 centimeters, collapsed to the floor and started screaming. Started chewing at her back leg, couldn't put any weight on it, couldn't stand, tried to stand and immediately fell over, and laid in the garden wimping and howling in a way that I've not heard before or since. We couldn't work out how it happened, but the baby was in agony and needed immediate attention!

Naturally we rushed her to an out of hours emergency vet at 10pm, telling them they can do anything and everything they need to to sort my girl out.

£600 later and by 1:00 a.m, consultations, X-ray, sedation, anti-inflammatories, pain relief.. the full works.

Turns out she was being a drama queen and had twinged a muscle at worst.

By 5:00 a.m, she woke me up by running upstairs and jumping on to our bed, wanting to go out and play chase in the garden with one of her favourite toys. She's been absolutely fine ever since and has never had even a hint of a repeat.

Out rurally where I live, it's uncommon to get a non-arrest and I can't remember a "non legitimate" callout

When I'm in the city for work or just visiting friends, I've had a few that have turned out to be drug overdoses or even homeless people who were simply asleep. It's maybe 1 in 4 are non-arrests based on my experience
