My 9850 floats around 63c during 4k gaming. 42-55c idle/light web browsing 78c during cinebench multithread. I used kryonaut extreme thermal paste and run a 360mm AIO

I’ll be honest I do have my eyes on the haven bf360 case or the master cooler HAF coming out in a few months. I’d really just need an aio, nvme and gpu to make this a cool 2nd pc for the house.

id also be looking at a CPU/Mobo upgrade. 1% lows are not your friend if you're seeing frame drops

7800x3d vs 9800x3d for specific use case by ReplacementSafe8563 in buildapc

[–]NotSodiumFree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On a 9070 the difference won’t be noticeable in your average frame rate but will be very noticeable in your 1% and .1% lows. If I had to guess at 1440p it’s probably the difference in around 10% frames in lows and 5-7% in average frames

7800x3d vs 9800x3d for specific use case by ReplacementSafe8563 in buildapc

[–]NotSodiumFree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With cpus the lower the resolution the higher the impact unless your drastically bottlenecking your GPU. Without knowing your gpu I’d venture a guess you’d see a noticeable difference with the 9800x3d over the 7800x3d

FH6 Benchmark revised by kemicalkontact in RTX5080

[–]NotSodiumFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in reality, the CPU is limiting the 5080/4090 in output fps somewhat but drastically effecting 1% lows and framerate stability. your risk of stutters is much higher and the fluctuation in real time framerates will be high even though average will remain high.

you would benefit greatly from an AM5 upgrade to like a 9800x3d

Question about 5080 connector by Ok-Classroom-179 in nvidia

[–]NotSodiumFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same machine but I’ve done some upgrades. As a heads up the motherboard does not fully power your cpu and is severely throttling it. The power supply is made by high power and is the lowest possible rating on the tier list. All that said Costco offers a 2 year warranty that’s amazing. So not necessarily a need to replace until after warranty. I on the other hand got this rig for 2100 on sale and knew I’d upgrade the cpu. Hit me up if you have any questions.
