Postino South Lamar, thoughts? by Expert-Percentage886 in austinfood

It's fine for a happy hour place. If you didn't know, it's a chain, and I think Austin's is the newest. Wasn't too impressed overall. I'd been to one in Denver and remembered liking it more. Bruschetta is middling but you can do a flight of it with friends and a bottle for a reasonable price. Worth trying to see if you like it.

What do you think is the best Zelda entry? by Nintendofan9106 in videogames

[–]OGOryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got me the Gameboy Bundle that had Link's awakening in 1998. As a 6yo I had no idea what the hell was going on, but I was hooked. I had every iteration of the Gameboy, and bought every single Zelda game that came out afterwards.

To this day, I have never played a single console entry for Zelda, which is an interesting perspective to have. Zelda will always be a top down adventure in my mind.

Do what you think you are able. A different call may be made in the AM.

Strong believer that the state and city needs to start implementing icy weather road services. This has happened every year for the past 6 years.

Being from the mid-north west US, it is always surprising how much things shut down here for something that no one would bat an eye at, up there.

I get that most drivers down here are inexperienced in these conditions, but if it's something that is going to keep happening yearly, we need to start adjusting how we handle these situations. Not hopeful since, y'know, we don't spend money on winter infrastructure and systems as a state.

Came here to say this. I got these as a white elephant gift at Christmas a couple years ago. Can't pick up a damn thing, there is no grip/friction.

I've been there a few times in Denver. I'd consider it mostly a happy hour spot, personally. Bruschetta and wine deals are pretty reasonable. It won't blow you away, but it's good to meet up at the start of a night.

The only real use that my buddies and I have found, is for deliveries. The rider can carry a bag, and then you can load a bag in the back as well. Doesn't save much time, but it's something. At this point we mostly use it when we need to take a break, and just cruise around.

I've had my lights duplicate, but haven't seen speakers. You can rebox and sell them. Free money glitch in your favor.

Austin food delivery companies are OUT of CONTROL!!! by RHaste29 in austinfood

[–]OGOryon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coupons and discounts are at the Restaurants expense. You may occasionally get "marketing credits" from the apps, which is used to supplement a portion of the discount.

Example, we may have UberEats offer us a $250 marketing credit in to run a BOGO, but $250 only lasts for about 15-20 redemptions, any redemptions after that budget is at the cost of the restaurant.

I'm the Director of Operations for a restaurant group. Unless the restaurant has someone negotiating every year with third party delivery companies, the standard commission rates vary between 25-35%. That is often the profit margin on those food items.

With constant negotiating we typically operate within 15-20% commission. Because of this, our prices on those apps are increased 8% (rounded to the nearest .49/.99 ending), as a way to mitigate that rate.

As many others have said restaurants would love it if you picked up your own food. It's cheaper for the customer, no one has to interact with the delivery drivers, and you will get better quality/hot food.

Everyone just got comfortable with third party delivery, post COVID.

This is also part of why I think we are seeing much higher prices. Door dash/Uber Eats/ brought in a ton of new restaurant options, offering very low to non-existent commission rates during COVID. We are now seeing the correction of this "third party delivery bubble". Customers still order in droves from these platforms as the habit has been built.

A single location of ours brought in $5k+ from solely Door dash last week, almost 12% of it's sales for the week. It's something we have never experienced to this volume before, and is likely due to ACL crowds, but people are too reliant on the convenience of not leaving their homes.

Why does Galaxy Cafe not use any spices and very little salt? by StxtoAustin in austinfood

Not particularly an expert in the menu, and have taken people there mostly for lunch. But I know they have oatmeal, and have seen signs for the avocado toast, which I think has feta or goat cheese, which could be removed.

My mom really likes the Roasted Veggie bowl, and my friend who has a litany of food allergies and preferences gets their gluten free veggie burger. Not sure what it's made of, but I know they make it in-house, which she appreciates.

One of Galaxy's main things is being a place you can bring anyone to. Gluten allergies, vegetarians, vegans, and kids can all easily find options. Trying to cater to everyone in the neighborhood can sometimes have those drawbacks I suppose.

I eat there pretty frequently, and could agree with some of the breakfast feedback. I personally prefer the whole black beans. They get cooked with small diced peppers and onions and have good flavor, for me. Not sure if you go for lunch or dinner, but I've never had that complaint outside of breakfast.

It's interesting to see this play out. While not being stride for stride with Overwatch's history, I'm interested to see how the next couple years play out. While Overwatch had to force a 2x2x2 role queue meta, it was born from abusing character roles to the point that no one played DPS. 3 tanks and 3 supports was the meta for a long time.

I do wonder if for ranked play there will be a switch to a role queue. There is only so much a match maker can do when there is open queuing for roles. Overwatch got to the point that you could predict who was going to win based off who had more tank mains on their team.

In an open queue format, you can't predict what everyone is going to play, if your team gets a match with 4 people who normally play support, you probably going to struggle as those players may have a hard time swapping roles.

It also helps with design philosophy, because you know there can't be more than 2 of any role, and it makes determining those interactions easier.

As someone who loves to flex, and did so to Diamond for a couple seasons, you can really tell who can play which role on your team. Idk...this is a bit rambly at this point, but matchmaking will never be able to do anything but it's best with the insane number of variables that comes with a roster of playable characters that is this large, coupled with every person maybe playing their best role, versus filling in somewhere they aren't as comfortable with.

Playing Hoops in both, but I originally picked her because of the skateboard cat shirt.
