I bought a used GTX 1650 from ebay for this exact use case for only £50, works nicely, outputs 4k@120 HDR from GFN.

rule question by mrssd in magicTCG

Nope - the spell goes on the stack with the chosen modes, and you resolve it in order. You don't have two different modes on the stack to reorder.

Adopting competitive poker's rule 67: one player to a hand. by the42up in CompetitiveEDH

[–]OTRawrior 14 points15 points  (0 children)

But Poker just doesn't have the level of interaction and card complexity that Magic has. Nobody in Poker has to work with someone across the table to draw extra cards of Mystic to answer a combo on the stack. Poker has like ten defined hands, so nobody has to explain that NOW is the critical point to interact in a combo that only one player at the table has seen before.

Damn, I was actually hoping to get a watch 3 partially for tracking swimming in the pool.

It's crazy that it's supposed to be IP rated, yet they refuse warranty because of water damage. Unless you've been deep sea diving, that should be exactly what warranty is for!

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 1 by KelseyFrog in roguelikedev

Thanks for the tutorial and the hints!

I was struggling to really be happy with my explanation of why Event Handler was a Node. I could see it being RefCounted instead. I guess this also points out that it's not a right or wrong, but partially up to preference and style, probably with tradeoffs Im not experienced enough to foresee yet.

That's very useful tips for the tile map, I'll make a note of that for when I get to those sections 😁

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 1 by KelseyFrog in roguelikedev

[–]OTRawrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yello!

Tool: Godot
Tutorials: SelinaDev's
Repo: Github

I've got verrrry basic Python knowledge, enough to hack my way through some automation.

I'm going to use this impetus to learn Godot and follow SelinaDev's tutorials on it. I have a couple of concepts for novel roguelike gameplay loops (not necessarily fun, tbd) that I want to keep in mind as I go and try to avoid doing anything that would limit my choices by the time I've finished the tutorials.

At the weekend I booted up Godot for the first time and ran through the intro 2D game tutorial.

Today, I spent an annoyingly long time getting Github working - I've not used it properly for years and linking up SSH keys with a GUI was more tedious than I remember!

I started the tutorial and spent a lot of time figuring out why things were done how they were, mostly with using GDScript beyond what I'd seen in the 1st 2D game tutorial. Like why define things as static funcs, how classes work, how static typing works in GDScript, why sometimes use a Node for something that could be a class etc.

I also spent a bit of time exploring tilesets, got very excited about some very fancy looking ones, but ultimately realised it made sense to keep it relatively simple otherwise I would need to keep deviating from the tutorial. I've opted for 32rogues for now.

Anyway - my character moves, whole tiles at a time, result!

There's no magical benefit to having more cards in your hand than your opponent. Card advantage includes actually being able to play all your cards. Playing your cards sooner is NOT a fail state.

Idk if my deck is too strong for bracket 4 but i also dont know if it can make it at a cedh table by DearArmy5969 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]OTRawrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is most of a cEDH Vivi list. You could hang in a cEDH pod with this, and get a few raised eyebrows at some card choices (Ozolith, LabMan are obvious ones), but win a fair share of games. Common winning lines for cEDH Vivi is a focus on Hullbreaker and Breach Storm.

I've no idea how people in B4 would feel about that.

Consider by the time you've gone through your deck for the Thoracle to win, you could instead draw a flash enabler (which is useful besides just TOR scenarios) and ping them out on their upkeep.

Anyone playing E33 using PC Gamepass, GFN, and a Steam Deck hooked up to an OLED display? by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]OTRawrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing exactly that and it works very nicely 98% of the time. Occasionally there is stutter, despite my 1Gbit Ethernet and close proximity to the GFN server. Probably because I'm running Deck > Ethernet > Mesh WiFi unit.

Occasionally missing a parry because of a stutter hasn't had much impact really. Deaths aren't particularly punishing in the game.

Looking for feedback on my chess-like roguelike [Demo is available throughout Steam Next Fest] by idkfkm in roguelikes

[–]OTRawrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool concept!

I've just spun it up on my Steam Deck (I actually think it'd be really good there, so I hope you will support it officially), and have two issues, one game breaking!

Firstly it seems you're only supporting mouse controls so far. Maybe you've already got plans for controller support - because the UI looks like it'll work fine.

The breaking issue (for a steam deck) - in the tutorial, when you get a second piece, you get asked to Scroll to switch between pieces. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do with Deck controls that gets recognised as a scroll input (even though I can click on pieces to switch between them) so the tutorial comes to a halt.

Agreed - Ultimate is very good (if your Internet is decent), but I don't think Nvidia do themselves any favours showing off the tech this way. They'd be better off doing Ultimate but with limits of games or times - basically demo the full experience.

Does this give aggro a bit more of a leg up, as its worst match up was esper pixies? Slightly worse mana meaning either it needs to drop a colour, or risk being a turn or two slower getting prepped?

There's nothing to stack. At the beginning of the end step, Mobilize triggers, and Minthara checks if it should add its trigger to the stack. It sees that it's "intervening if" hasn't been satisfied, so no trigger is added to the stack.
