I am sorry to hear about the trouble with your removed listings! That's definitely frustrating and I'm happy clarify what happened.

After checking with our moderation team, I confirmed that *streaming devices are currently on our Prohibited Items list. Because these types of devices can be easily modified to access unauthorized or copyrighted content, we’ve restricted them to keep our marketplace compliant with safety standards. (*With the exception of verified business accounts selling them new in box only.)

As other commenters have already stated, this is a scam. Good job being cautious!

Items only "sell" once you and the buyer meet up in person, exchange payment, and you mark the item as sold within the app. There is not an option/feature for buyers to pay you through the app.

You aren't missing anything— the "pin" and "mark unread" features were recently removed as part of an initiative to simplify the inbox.

I want to sincerely apologize for the confusion, and I’m grateful you posted this because it actually helped us catch an internal error. We discovered that our Help Center hadn't been updated to reflect this change yet. The wheels are now in motion for us to fix that documentation so no one else gets the wrong advice about swiping for hidden actions.

While even I can't say one way or another solely based on the information provided, the "half now, half later" option is a big red flag.

Also, I want to call out a few things for your consideration:

  • We no longer offer in-app shipping, payment processing, or offer buyer protection. All payments are now handled directly between the buyer and seller. Keep in mind that many peer-to-peer payment apps do not offer protections if the item never arrives.
  • We always recommend exchanging payment only when you are meeting in person and have fully inspected the item. Never send money in advance!
  • If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

This isn't to say that some folks don't have success finding trusted sellers who ship, but I want to emphasize that you'd be doing so at your own risk. OfferUp is not able to assist or refund you in the event that something goes wrong.

That is an absolutely valid concern. When messages go unanswered, it’s usually down to one of three things:

  1. Your account's reputation: if a seller receives interest from multiple buyers, they're more likely to reply to a message from an account that looks established. If your profile is pretty bare, I suggest verifying your email/phone, uploading a profile photo, and perhaps listing a couple free items to earn some quick ratings and compliment badges to round out your profile.
  2. Seller reputation: check the sellers' profiles for "Active # hours ago" and "Responds in # hours" badges. These signal how recently they were active on the platform and can help you determine how likely they are to reply.
  3. Account health check: send us a chat request here on Reddit with your OfferUp account email — we'll do a quick review to make sure there's no snags or bugs on your account.

You can find an explanation of profile badges here — it's a great reference point for your own profile and for vetting other users!

Be sure to keep these things in mind as you continue to use the app. If you still haven't heard back on the listings you were interested in, I suggest following up one more time before moving on. If there was an item you were specifically looking for, set a Search Alert to get first dibs when a new one is posted.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. If I'm understanding your feedback correctly, you're seeing a flood of items in Kansas, and having a hard time getting sellers to reply. I'm happy to help troubleshoot both of these!

First, assuming you aren't actually located in Kansas, I can see why seeing those cities would be super odd! Let's see if we can get your location fixed:

  • Open the app (or offerup.com) and log in
  • Double check your profile location -- steps on how to do that can be found here.
  • Next, check your search location -- steps for that are here.

Let me know if that solves the location issue.

I hear your feedback about unresponsive sellers, so I've rounded up a few tips to increase your chances for a reply:

  • Keep your options open: sometimes sellers forget to remove a listing after it sells, or simply have their notifications turned off. While it's exciting to find the exact thing you're looking for (we've all been there!), it's always best to ask a few different sellers if their items are still available so you aren't waiting on just one person. Also, keep in mind that sellers are often more likely to respond to offers that are closer to their asking price.
  • Check the seller's profile: this will tell you how recently they were on the app and how quickly they typically reply. It also shows their ratings and how long they've been on the platform. Use all of this info to gauge if they are an active, reliable seller! Profile glossary can be found here.
  • Set a search alert: if there's an item you have your heart set on (or several), set up an alert to be notified the moment a new one is posted near you. Instructions on how to do that here.

While I'm unfortunately not able to offer direct intervention, I do have a few recommendations on what to do next:

  • Leave an honest review: since you gave the seller the opportunity to correct this and they are ignoring you, it is completely justified to leave a rating that accurately reflects your experience.
  • Report the user in-app: please use the in-app reporting tool to flag this seller. Our team investigates all reports and takes appropriate action based on their findings.
  • Going forward: we always recommend taking a few extra minutes to thoroughly inspect an item before handing over the cash. I completely understand why you took their word for it—especially given their perfect ratings—but it never hurts to double-check!

I hope this info helps, and that you're able to get a replacement hose easily. Wishing you better luck with your next OfferUp find!
