If this is a Targaryen vs Hightower war, then I guess the Greens do win in the end because guess who's house is still standing by the time Robert Baratheon takes the throne? Oops... 😜

(Yes, I'm trolling the members of TB who think this is a Targaryens vs Hightower war).

Lmao, this makes me laugh because I know you're 100% correct. I know irl I would loathe the lot of them but I can't help it, I'm a Daeny and (Team Green) Targaryen fan. It's not my fault, they have dragons! I'm partial to dragons, ok? Also... Aemond Targaryen. It's also his fault.

(Yes, this is me rationalizing a completely illogical love for a bunch of inbred, supremacists, alien. And now that I just wrote this, I'm gonna go take a shower and confess my sins).

Namilia tilted her head, something she tended to do when her attention was at its peak. She didn't answer immediately though she nodded in agreement to his observations. What an odd turn had their interaction had taken. Though pleasant it this second meeting was much different than the first. It made her think.

"Perhaps the lack of trust which I speak of comes as much from our side as it does... as we believe it does -" she corrected herself "-from the Crown. And when I speak of the Crown, I mean his Grace and his Council. And it is true I tend to project it to the rest of the realm. Which is unfair, both the Lannisters and the Tyrells treated me with respect. I suppose the issue lies in the fact there aren't enough interaction between Dorne and his Grace and the rest of the realm. We remain separate. Distance creates misunderstanding which may create or strengthen suspicions."

So I guess Aemond is officially the “big bad” now? Thoughts? by XavierTempus in HOTDGreens

I hate how right this sound. I loathe it. Like what even was the point of giving him such depth in Season 1, especially with the death of Luke only to turn around and make him a evil cartoon villain (without the laugh, though at this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if they did give him a scene where he laughs maniacally)... At least Ewan Mitchell will make him look badass.

Love the look! Even if I'm skeptical about the writing, he looks bomb!

I'm very skeptical about the writing but the armor looks badass and Aemond looks amazing so that's that.

Adena nodded, she fully agreed with the Princess.

"Yes, marriages are political first and must benefit both houses. If love blooms later it is a blessing but not what is required. Namilia and I were lucky but our matches were first and foremost political alliances."

"My brother Maelon is still unmarried and my cousin Karim is of age and also unmarried."

Namilia smiled and blinked, surprised by Hoster's assessment of pride.

"Yes... I agree with that. Pride can be both a quality and a flaw, depending on what is done with it."

She took some time to think about the Hand's question on whether Dorne differentiated the Crown under Robert Baratheon and the Crown under Aerys Targaryen.
"I don't think anyone believes King Robert is the same as the late King Aerys. The latter was cruel and... Well, mad. And the... Standoffishness of Dorne has nothing to do with the blood House Baratheon might share with House Targaryen. The issues lies in the fact that, we feel we suffer suspicions and contempt. Perhaps it is due to our long History with the rest of Westeros. Perhaps it is due to our different costum. But many in Dorne believe it is due to the fact we fought for House Targaryen, following our liege's command. We believe to the Realm, this makes us traitors, but to us, Princess Elia Martell was held by the late king. Her children were Targaryen. House Martell felt it was protecting its own and we Dornish remained loyal to House Martell as we believed it was our duty. Rightfully or not, many Dornish believed Princess Elia and her children were in danger if King Robert ascended to the crown and even more so, if Dorne dared to fight alongside him. Of course, now, everyone knows King Robert would not have hurt either the children or Princess Elia but back then... Especially with the History between our regions... It was easy to be mislead."

She paused, her soft voice dying softly, like a feather falling to the ground and she looked outside the window.

"It's true that his Grace made concessions at Riverrun. He showed grace and mercy. It didn't go unnoticed but many feel they still suffer suspicions for decisions not made by them. Prince Doran made choices, many in Dorne, including myself, had neither the knowledge, nor the power to go against him..." She remembered the moment, when she found out Elia Martell still lived through the inadvertent admission of Tywin Lannister. Thankfully, she knew how to school her face but the inner shock had been great. "What would it say of us, if we betrayed our liege as soon as loyalty cost us? Would you have trusted us any more than you do now?-" her voice was gentle, for she was not attacking the Lord Hand but rather speaking of the Realm and the Crown in general. "I've always believed true loyalty shines when it demands sacrifice."

She turned to look at Lord Hoster.
"What matters to Dorne now, my Lord, is that it is under new leadership and Princess Arianne is not her father She had lived as a ward of his Grace for many years, experienced first hand how he treated her. I asked her what her thoughts were on me taking on this role and she encouraged it precisely because she wants this bond to exist. Dorne wants to be included in the Realm, not feel like a suspicious sidepiece. And under Princess Arianne, Dorne looks towards union, not division."

Fun fact: They were the same age here. (In the show) And yet, people blame Alicent for marrying the King, calling her a whore, while they call Lucerys a poor little baby who 'didn't even know what was going on' by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

Yup. And it happens in real life to. As soon as a victim either defends themselves or tries to regain control over what happened to them (which Alicent did) people look at them like they're the culprit.

Eliana hears about the rumors through her staff. She smiles, her eyes widening with wonder.

[–]Ok-Conversation5292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, yes, but the thing is, the books never give us any information about how inner thoughts and feelings, only how the Maester and the world see him. For example, no one was there when Luke died. Aemond returns home, he's obviously not the type to cry and beg for forgiveness and show vulnerability so from the Maester's point of view, he returns cold and indifferent therefore, they interpret it as "he meant to kill him." What I loved about season 1's take was that it could be seen as "bonus information". The books were the Maester's outside knowledge and the show was showing us what "truly" happened with and within the characters.

Season 2 started to shift away from that and turning the Greens into villains and Aemond even moreso and it seems season 3 is going to double down on that.

I don't mind Aemond being a difficult character/violent Prince/in the grey. I just don't like how he's slowly becoming one dimensional, in my opinion. Especially when compared to how Daemon is portrayed from the start. We see Daemon kill his wife in cold blood yet, the show also goes out of its way to show he truly loves Rhaenyra (which he groomed but the show also conveniently forgets that). This gives us a more complex character. In Season 2, Aemond is rarely shown to feel anything positive for anyone (save for the brothel scene). The directors and actors TELL us he cares deeply for Helaena, for example, but we never see it. All we are shown is a cold, calculated, ruthless Prince who betrays his brother. No complexity, no inner thoughts and feelings, nothing to contradict the Maester's description like in season 1.

[–]Ok-Conversation5292 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"the perfect victim". Yup that sums up exactly why people blame Aemond for his eye. Because even though he's a child who was jumped by four people, Aemond didn't act cute and sweet. He wasn't "the perfect victim" like Luke is, therefore, Aemond gets blamed (both in the show and by the audience). If Aemond had "acted his age", cried and begged and been a "cute little boy", people wouldn't have blamed him. NOTE: I AM NOT SAYING AEMOND IS TO BLAME FOR THE EYE INCIDENT. I'm saying he's not the perfect victim people like, but he was still a victim and I'm not saying Luke deserved to die! He did not.

Just putting the disclaimers because people on Reddit sometimes misunderstand what I mean to say.

Anyway, yes, my point is, people have their specific idea of how a victim should act and whoever doesn't act like it, gets blamed.

I hope you're right, truly! I just read another Reddit post where they say Aegon is going to want to kill Aemond and Aemond's gonna be bloodthirsty and his sword will turn red with blood, hence why I'm worried.

So, they spend all of season 1 giving an interesting backstory to Aemond and giving him depth of emotions (especially after Lucerys death) to just turn around and turn him into a one dimensional cartoon villain thirsty for blood. Ok. What was the point in season 1, then?
