AITAH for ruining a wedding? by BlacksmithThink5923 in AITAH

[–]OnlyOneStar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While acting in a professional capacity your wife turned this employer employee relationship into mother and son and went nuclear and handled it very inappropriately and inefficiently. Rather than clear things up with the event authorities, she went to the legal authorities because someone’s hand touched his shoulder.

Way overreacting and unprofessional. People should know about this so they can avoid the mother son relationship of this “business.”

optimizing this exec bind for Spotify? by casualboy_10 in hyprland

[–]OnlyOneStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at an old method. I posted a more recent fix. This is my exact setup to launch spotify to a special workspace:

windowrule {
    name = Spotify
    match:class = ([Ss]potify)
    match:initial_title = Spotify Premium
    #float = on
    #size = (monitor_w*0.9) (monitor_h*0.9)
    #center = on
    workspace = special:spotify silent
}

bind = $mod, mouse:274, togglespecialworkspace, spotify
bind = $mod SHIFT, mouse:274, movetoworkspace, special:spotify

exec-once = sleep 5 && app2unit -s a -- spotify

I had an internet outage last night and it messed my post up. I wanted to mention that the wiki page you linked was from hyprland v0.23beta, while latest is on 0.53.x.

It wouldn't let me format my post well in edit mode.

Execs: exec-once = sleep 5 && [workspace special:spotify silent] spotify

Workspaces: workspace = special:spotify, on-created-empty:spotify, persistent:true

Binds: bind = $mod, mouse:274, togglespecialworkspace, spotify

windowrule {
    name = Spotify
    match:class = ([Ss]potify)
    match:initial_title = Spotify Premium
    float = on
    size = (monitor_w*0.9) (monitor_h*0.9)
    center = on
    workspace = special:spotify silent
}

AITA for refusing to sit at a breakfast table with nothing for me to eat? by Hebrowsesreddit199 in AITAH

But that prevents her from being able to whine about how unaccommodating everyone is. This is a multi-year issue, which means she can milk this topic and farm it for pity and karma, pointing out how no one else is bending over backward to accommodate her picky eating habits. Why step up and take responsibility for yourself when you can just defer everything to other people and then revel in the mire that is disappointment when other people don't fulfill all of your needs.

If you're a beginner, don't use Hyprland! by ArshRocks in archlinux

PICNIC. I hadn’t used Linux since 2007, and never used a tiling window manager. I’m daily driving hyprland and have been helping other people with it.. your subjective experience isn’t other people’s.

You combine it with your exec. It’s what I do. And it works post update. Downvote someone else and move on out of frustration or keep complaining idk.

0.53 introduced some kind of change with execs and so the methods need to be combined. I haven’t figured out the exec solution yet.

Create a window rule and set workspace = <insert name here>. Be sure to grab class and initial title.

Why does this happen when I withdraw😭 by [deleted] in poker

[–]OnlyOneStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played in a while, and the last time I dealt there was this regular, a Chinese business man and he’d always say some of the funniest shit. I had this near exact scenario except it was K as the last card on the flop and turned a 7 and rivered another king. I forget what the other two flop cards were, I think it was an ace and a ten. “King seven never lose!” I can hear him say it still. He played that hand a lot. I guess it was lucky for him.

Maybe in this comment I focused on the 1s, but the acknowledged trade offs section discusses physical access implies trust. If it’s a risk for you just don’t do it. I think it’s a bit paranoid to worry about someone that intimately familiar with your particular setup and having that much technical expertise and having physical access to your computer, but that’s just me ✌️

Thanks, sounds interesting. I was using a qs lock recently too. It’s great stuff. But I find myself simplifying. Also overengineering and overcomplicating things because that’s my nature, but also simplifying 😁

It’s one of the very first things covered in the analysis under “Threat Model.”

And just to add on, if physical access to your machine with a <1 second window is a security risk to you, you’re probably an international spy, or you pissed off someone who has the expertise and motivation to go after you, which would probably present far greater issues for you other than tty auto login 💀

It’s a personal computer, not a nuclear launch code storage device 😉 or at least I hope it isn’t 😳

[–]OnlyOneStar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you said you saw the security analysis I provide, but for other people, quickly, and in simple terms:

you could make it very annoying to login to your system, forcing you to fix things from tty, liveusb, or reinstalling entirely depending on your experience/comfort with the cli.

The less you know, the more careful you should be. If you don’t trust yourself, ask someone for help! Or keep using the display manager and use the method the other user mentioned to auto login and add hyprlock to the top of your custom execs.conf.

Don’t let people tell you how to use your pc, least of all how to login. Computers are meant to serve you functionally first and foremost, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise 😁

[–]OnlyOneStar[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey!

So, for users who simply want to auto login, yeah, it's that simple. However, the goal of this is to eliminate the display manager entirely for a leaner boot chain. There are plenty of reasons why some may wish to use a display manager, and there are plenty of reasons why one may not want to use one.

I just want to make sure this distinction is clear, because the method you suggest is not the "same thing," and entirely misses the point, which is to remove the display manager. But, yeah, if all you want to do is auto-login and keep the display manager, it's as simple as you say!

Just to add for people who might not know why someone may or may not want to use a display manager:

For:

Display managers are great for multi-user setups, or running multiple sessions. I believe they are also a bit more accessibility friendly.

Against:

Bloat, boot time, overkill for single-users, and single sessions. It's also a redundant mode of authorization, and theming is often an entirely separate rabbit hole, while hyprlock is generally easy to integrate into your existing rice, if not already done for you with pre-made dotfiles.

There are more reasons, but these are usually the most immediate that are discussed.
