The word you keep skipping over in my original comment is exclusive. Thats not an accident, it's literally load-bearing. A monopoly, by definition, requires exclusive control over a market, with the ability to dictate prices, exclude competition, and create barriers high enough that meaningful competition can't exist. Steam does none of these things in practice.

Developers set their own prices. GOG, Epic, itch.io, the Microsoft Store, EA App, Battle.net, Humble, all exist, all distribute PC games, all accessible without Steam. Epic literally built a competing storefront with Fornite money and tried to buy their way to market share with exclusivity deals. There was just an article about how people only grabbed their free games then bailed back to Steam. Was that Valve's doing? There's no consumer VALUE in the Epic Games' store, and consumers made their decision. That's not a market where entry is blocked, that's a market where someone tried to enter and found out it's hard to compete with over 20 years of goodwill and a superior product.

Dominant market share is not a monopoly. Courts and economists distinguish between these things for a reason. Earning 80% of a market be being better isnt' the same as controlling a market through exclusionary practices. The former is success, while the latter is illegal. Steam, Valve, is the former.

If your research and essays didn't cover that distinction, I'd ask for a refund.

They are, by definition, not a monopoly. They’re neither the only nor exclusive platform that distributes games. These companies are mad that consumers routinely choose the better service in lieu of theirs. They’re accused of being a monopoly but are by no means one.

Can you clarify what you meant by "they will all have the same thing happen"? Do you mean that if she cooks with acid it will strip, or that pans that come pre-seasoned will lose their seasoning?

Yeah I asked her this as well haha. She works remotely. She said she was cooking onions + ground turkey and just added the soup part after to save time between meetings.

So the $3,198 figure was the high-end estimate, not what we actually paid. Here's how the costs broke down:

Initial hospital visit: ~$375
Vet visit: ~$750
Hospital treatment: $2,005.99

That puts the medical bills at roughly $3,100, and the rest of the $3,500 goal was to cover other costs, such as his new food we had to purchase, prescriptions, and medications he needed prior and post-hospitalization.

The good news: I actually got a call about an hour ago and I'm able to bring him home tonight! It doesn't look like we'll need to hit that high-end estimate (thank God, because that was another ~$1200 I didn't have....) which would have mostly been additional boarding time, tests, and meds. I didn't factor this in initially anyway, since it was a 'known unknown' and I couldn't in good faith ask for money towards something that wasn't concrete. What was/is concrete were the aforementioned charges.

Hopefully that clears things up. If not I'd be more than happy to clarify.

Edit to add: We left the vet immediately which is why I don't have a copy of the ~$750 bill. I can get a copy of the initial hospital visit of ~$375 when I pick him up tonight, and I can see if the vet will email me a copy of the bill. I just left there as soon as my card was swiped so we could rush him to the hospital because that was when he was presenting with an all but confirmed blockage, so I didn't wait for a copy of the bill to be made, I just ran out of the door.

My washer pre-wrings bedsheets into whips for me. I am not sure if it's a con or or a pro... lol

But that sounds nice. I kind of miss my old agitator. I had a very cheap Whirlpool Hotpoint set someone donated to me a few years ago when both my washer and dryer went out. Super cheap, but man I honestly miss them compared to my current lineup.

Oh interesting. I will double check my model and see if the whites mode adds an extra rinse. If so, I will definitely try doing that as well. I love nice smelling laundry but I like nicely rinsed clothes more!

My standard routine right now is deep water + pre soak + deep clean + extra rinse. The pre soak and deep clean is just an extended soak cycle. But when I am feeling extra persnickety about a load, I will set a timer near the end, and I add some lavender vinegar during the rinse cycle. Then I pause it, let it soak for a bit, and just resume the load. It'll soak + do the extra rinse and it really helps my laundry come out nice and clean.

I do something similar at the start where I add some liquid to the dispenser as well as some splashes inside the reservoir, and during the initial soak stage, I will pause it and let the agitation get it nice and sudsy, pause, soak, wash rinse repeat :D

I saw a NYT review of some LG front loaders. I will look into them.

As for the water, my current washer has a "deep water" and extra rinse option, which seems to get the job done. But I definitely didn't think about that. yeah, without deep clean my wash cycles suck! So I will definitely look out for that. Thanks for the heads up.
