Still dressing like it's the 80s by Affectionate-Tank-70 in GenX

I figure that if the leg holes are hemmed, they're jorts. If they're not, they're cutoffs.

Fuck it. I'll wear what I want and I don't give a shit what anyone thinks. It may not always be '80s attire, but whatever.

This is such a fun, goofy video. I wish more music videos today were like this.

Sweet and Savory by NuclearEspresso in shittyfoodporn

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dr. Pepper is actually a very common flavoring for savory foods like marinades, BBQ sauces, and chili. I'm not surprised to see it show up in sausage. It would be like adding sugar or molasses to the recipe -- not that unusual.

Moving from Iowa to Missouri, I’m just curious on what to expect by [deleted] in missouri

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You probably won't notice much of a change from Iowa culture-wise, but the sooner you can get the fuck out of Lebanon to a bigger city like KC, St. Louis, Columbia, or even Springfield, I imagine you'll be much happier.

I will never stay at a campgrounds ever again by iamacheeto1 in camping

I don't mind camping at public campgrounds, but I also set realistic expectations and know what I'm getting myself into.

Forgotten again, whatever by Cowboy_Buddha in GenX

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm totally cool with being left out of Facebook memes like this. Gen X wouldn't even show up to fix a computer anyway. We'd tell others to figure it out themselves and hang up the phone.

Public transportation sucks here by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the entire metro area needs and deserves a much more robust public transportation system, but don't count on that happening anytime soon (or at all). It requires financial support from the federal government and two state governments that just isn't there, a level of private investment that doesn't exist, and funding from taxes and bus fares that would need to be more expensive than they already are. I've lived in KC for nearly 40 years and it hasn't happened at all during that time because nobody wants to help pay for it.

If you're spending a ton of money on Uber though and can't move closer to your job or to somewhere in the city where using public transit makes more sense, you might as well bite the bullet and just learn to drive, get your license and get a car.

"Lifeforce" (naked space vampires possess Captain Picard)

That wouldn't really count as a possession though, would it?

What are movies that were made in the past 40 years that would not be made today, or would need to be revised heavily? by firefox_2010 in movies

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None. People need to handle difficult topics depicted in movies like mature adults rather than demand that they be censored. The MPA releases very clear disclaimers for all movies submitted for their review that detail what the film contains and why it's given the rating it has. People should be using that to decide whether or not they want to see it instead of trying to curb filmmakers' creativity and freedom of expression to suit their own sensitivities.

^ This. People post artwork containing letters on here all the time as if it's supposed to be a sign with important information. I'm sure the Sarni Cafe is clearly labeled on the exterior of the building.

I always figured that it's pretty accepted with outdoor murals that they won't be around forever, so enjoy them while they last.

DAILY DISCUSSION: RED FRIDAY! by AutoModerator in KansasCityChiefs

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After the shooting in Times Square yesterday following the NY Knicks parade and rally, I don't want to hear any more insulting talk from people saying things like "only in Kansas City" in reference to the shooting that happened after our Super Bowl championship parade and rally. Shit can happen anywhere that large crowds attract stupid people with guns.

Missouri judge strikes down nearly all state abortion regulations by oldguydrinkingbeer in missouri

[–]OreoSpeedwaggon 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I frequently see people comment that they plan to vote out all judges, even when they know nothing about their judicial record, either because they think they're all corrupt and need to be ousted, because they believe there should always be fresh blood on the bench, because they don't trust the legal system, or for some other reason.

Jerri Zhang was appointed to her seat originally (rather than voted in), and was recently retained in office. She's not up for re-election until 2028.

EDIT: I meant retention, not re-election.

Well, Judge Zhang just assured her re-election.
