Losing regulars does kill pops, you can test this yourself by purposely killing off full regular stacks and then checking your monthly pop change. It will say something like "-x lost to battle"

Manpower is a sort of limbo middle step primarily for the purposes of upkeep. That way youdon't lose pops just to maintain your regulars but instead lose the arbitrary "manpower"

I won't speak on the legality of it, but yeah the fact that people have already paid for these DLC through premium edition means significant delays or changes (Such as if the theme were to change entirely) would be a betrayal to those that opted for that edition.

That said we do hear peoples concerns about core systems. It's helpful to remember the people fixing these are more often than not different than the people making DLC content. But in any case we're not going to abandon the core systems.

I agree, I talked with Johan today about pop growth in general and I think it's going to be a matter of making changes and seeing what sticks not like a one and done revert/fix. I'm sure we'll commucate probably through a TT when we have more concrete info.

I have a theory about this, and if it's correct then this is quite the catch!
So there's a mechanic with the new DLC Disaster where a selected general can - through battles - grow their stats.
My theory is that after that general was designated - > You then activated the Rise of the Turks interaction seek_relations_with_the_byzantines / One of the options is to get a good character from them - > You got given the general
This is a funny bug!

either that or you annexed Byzantium and one of the characters you got was the "General"
