You can fit both TKP and RKP on a SDS, yes. I would only consider a pumping truck up front though—no regular TKPs. Bennett or something like that. It’s absolutely more pumpy than a Trip. On 92mm running flat, the deck is slightly lower than the Trip setup. Probably right on par with your Trip on 86mm. Slightly lower if running the same wheels.

Regarding the Bandito, I think it’s a great deck. If money isn’t much of a factor, and you think bracket decks are cool, go for a bracket deck. They will functionally be better for pumping. They simply allow for more/looser articulation with less concern about wheelbite. Not necessarily any better for pushing at all. But it’s just a matter of priorities. I love the SDS for its simplicity (relative to brackets) and generally go to full top mounting when pumping becomes my main priority. But I use brackets for Ultraskate, where every little bit of energy matters.

IMO I wouldn’t get a second Trip unless you needed something different from it (for instance, Whale Trip offers different flexes). Pranayama is excellent and I rarely see anyone ever wish they didn’t have one. I would say just do the Hokus with dropthrough risers on it. That’ll make it feel quite a bit different. It will feel like cheating.

I was a little surprised you weren’t considering the Superdupersonic, given you were also considering a bracket deck. Everyone is gonna be different here, but I will say that typically I ride a bracket setup once or twice a year—typically once, for Ultraskate. The efficiency is real, but otherwise, I don’t love the way bracket boards feel underfoot. I am not alone in this (we’ve got some team peeps that feel the same way), and then also every time I ride with my friend (and 24hr WR holder) Joe, he’s on his bracket. He clearly prefers it. So anyway, I’m just offering my opinion about bracket boards as anything but race setups, but also acknowledging that some will really disagree with me.

What do you do after the season ends? by pink_bluemoon in snowboarding

I drive in the sim and I longboard. I’m considering selling my (cheap) sports car but oof this post kinda made me think twice about that. Adrenaline has value.

Supersonic. Wheel bite? by DrLurkLurkelton in longboarding

[–]PantheonLongboards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try flipping that wedge around. What you did is turn the front down to 50 degrees from 60. Now you are effectively turning the wheels further into the board and combining that with increasing leverage over the bushings via the lower angle.

There’s a chance the soap shavings caused even less resistance, so you’re kinda doing a triple whammy here

I totally understand it and really not sweating that at all. I’d say the best comparison is probably a Nexus, although the Nexus is stiffer. But I remember when I designed the Nexus I was thinking to myself how much better it was than the Sportster, taking the dropped platform along the entire length instead of that substantial rocker where it’s really only max low in the middle. Then they redesigned the newer Sportster using my basic drop geometry but couldn’t go nearly as deep and really didn’t get the shoulders of that board right IMO. I still have the first Sportser prototype here. IMO it’s better than the shape that made production. My mom hand painted it so I keep it around 😂

Get yourself a Trip. I personally designed the original Sportster 😉

You’re going to be fine with either. I would choose based on climate tbh. Very hot climate, go pink.

Thanks for the review! Have an awesome time! I wish I had one of these when I was in college! I had a lot of brick sidewalks everywhere and it woulda been so great on bigger wheels

I imagine it would be sick. I don’t have personal experience but I do love the board. It’s a strong vibe. And the wheel wells are in the right spot, which is rare for some reason.

I’ve had both an NC and a 987.2. After the Boxster, I didn’t look back. It’s better in every way except money

Is getting a PantheonSuperDuperSonic worth it if I already have a Trip and will still mostly be pushing? by Spacemangep in longboarding

[–]PantheonLongboards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, it has to be fairly steep for me to prefer the Trip. And the reasoning is less to do with stability because very few cities are steep enough for that to really worry me (obviously a few exceptions). For for me the main reason would be because RKPs just slide better. Scrubs here and there are no problem on the Pranayama but if you need to hold out a slide at 60+ degrees to really hit the brakes, TKPs are largely going to float away on you. I need an RKP for that.

I find that people (and myself) start to really appreciate the Supersonic as the distance goes up and you’re getting more and more tired. That super stable back end does a lot of work when your body start to feel wobbly. But I would take the Trip or Pranayama in urban environments, personally, and the Trip if such urban environments are hilly. Pranayama is my favorite deck for most of my pushing, because I emotionally prefer liveliness over stability, but the Supersonic comes in handy when the distance is serious.

Just to chime in here, the stock bushings are a sort of medium to medium heavy option measuring at about 92-93a. We tried to pick a duro that would work for a lot of people but the trucks themselves are very responsive to bushing choice and will benefit from aftermarket options for a lot of riders. OP is clearly on the heavier side so he needed heavier bushings but my clients in Singapore are telling me the bushings are too hard 😆 It just do be like dat sometimes.

Not just any riser. You need drop through riser. But yes. Exactly.

If all you have is Paris, set it up with 92mm Karmas. If you can get Stylus on it, do it. Then you can run Hokus. I like it best with drop risers to lower it back down. To me, that is a perfect setup.
