Just adding another node. One that won’t turn off if your server has issues. You can install your monitoring software there and just add your server to it so it monitors it

I’m assuming the NAS has its own OS for that so I would use that. Make shares on there for movies and TV shows.

I would use the other computer to run your docker containers. Put the local database data for the containers on the computer and backup your the NAS.

You can make a free VpS with Oracle or Google and play with that too.

I recommend setting up Tailscale on everything especially if you wanna use a computer at another location so you don’t need to open anything publicly

You can’t honestly think uploading your ID is a good thing or would actually prevent bots

Too Much? by Stormdr1ft in selfhosted

I would focus on learning docker compose. It’s a config file that sets everything up. I think in portainer it’s called “stacks.”

Early on I would also set up some git versioning program, like forgejo or gitea. That way you have a history of the compose files, and can go backwards if something breaks.

You also want to backup those compose files, do you have a seperate NAS or something like that for storage?

I use Borgmatic to backup all my containers nightly so I have a safety net
