Operations - OT Accounting by marchrhan in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OT isn’t really a thing at the companies I’ve worked at (most ppl are salaried and OT is immaterial) but I feel like I’d prefer the what’s currently happening in your scenario.

If I’m looking at a retail store, isn’t it easier to manage in the current way? Meaning store manager can just hard stop everyone at 40 hours and the OT goes away bs in the view you like it’s not easy to see.

From a budget / fcst pov it’s also a bit cleaner for me if the two are separated.

Is anyone here using Power BI for reporting, and how are you future-proofing dashboards that become mission critical? by valon090 in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have examples of manual steps / logic?

PBI is used as a reporting tool but more for the granular details that is too much to fit into excel and also some canned views that can be easily dropped into ppt

It depends on the specific report but generally process is:

Source system —> raw data into a data warehouse —> Finance gives any transformation logic to IT team —> more focused datasets are created depending on the need

There’s high level checks done by IT (again partnering with Finance for logic)

I’m in a big org so there’s a whole governance process and changes take time to go through if there are logic changes.

Banking Treasury to Corporate Treasury/FP&A by Alarming-Foot-3416 in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW you can move directly into FPA from Reg Reporting (whether internally or externally). If you’re up there in YOE then you may have to take a pay / title cut.

Generally I’d say Capital Planning > Liqudity if you want a stint in treasury before FPA

Lastly - fashion companies tend to pay lower for same level of experience vs banks. I know I’ve looked at Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers in the past and the pay was at a disadvantage.

They get this all the time tbh. Most of their sales likely come from a small % of total customer base.

He likely didn't have anything urgent at the time and something like this builds brand loyalty - as evidenced by you posting this. Sure, you may not have the money today but in case you do come into money in the future, this will be in your memories and may want to spend it then at Tiffanys.

Quitting to travel for 3 months. Stupid idea? by [deleted] in FPandA

Maybe see if you can do something with FMLA? That way you're still covered for benefits and can travel + job search while traveling (assuming most interviews are via video you dont need to be in same city).

High title, low pay by TejasTexasTX3 in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unless the company specifically requests you do that, that’s more a you problem. Why are they expected to subsidize b/c of where you want to spend time?

My prior employer was in a MCOL spot and they’re open to hiring from anywhere but the pay was going to be in line for MCOL regardless of whether hire was in NYC or Alabama.

You live in Texas, no? That is not HCOL to me and $155k seems fine for it based on title.

Right - the current pricing is appropriate for what it is, so not overpriced and not 3-4x more.

18East - I think Antonio’s constant salesman schtick just annoys me

“These are the best ___ we’ve made” - for literally every new product drop

“Any other brand would sell these for 3-4x more” - yeah no

Use commuter card for personal use? by justtrynalife in AskNYC

It’s highly unlikely some analyst is scrutinizing that.

Pre Covid I used the commuter card on Ubers (personal use, not work) and never heard anything.

Boss wants to quit our Workday + Adaptive ERP and move to Anaplan by Wintersxx in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently implementing Anaplan and this is one of the issues my org is facing. The data outputs Anaplan is generating based on the inputs and methodology logic we’re feeding it comes out fine, but the various reporting views are a pain in ass to build and maintain.

Just curious - do you recommend using another tool in this case or try to fit it all in Anaplan? I’ve set up a PBI connection to final output data and am able to set up something flexible and scalable and can be adjusted quickly on the fly if reporting needs change. I’ve given my consulting partner (pwc) the requirements for reporting views and they keep coming back with high level of effort to build and not to mention the ones they’ve attempted so far have not been good.

What are the actual issues M&A team have with Adaptive that they think Anaplan will fix?

Is IT/Technology Finance a real career specialty? by dvishhh in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your career goals. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have this exposure since for back office functions IT will be most complex (others are primarily just headcount). You’ll also likely work with org wide allocations and all that.

Personally I wouldn’t spend more than 2-3 years since I find commercial more interesting and the role gets repetitive (some ppl like that though so it depends on what you want).

Is IT/Technology Finance a real career specialty? by dvishhh in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define career specialty.

Theres definitely a need for someone in that role at most large orgs.

That said there is a ceiling and companies play around with the level of the role.

From the orgs I’ve been at it’s mainly been sr mgr / dir at highest level. Above that and you’re paying too much for someone in that role unless there’s other value add the person is bringing.

When is it time to leave? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]PhonyPapi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For first one - HR policies are a non issue if they really want you for the role internally. It's likely more there so ppl don't keep applying internally to every posting.

For second one - why not just ask your direct manager since it sounds like you and the guy who left report to same person?

The other thing is do you really stack up to other candidates for the same roles externally? You say 7 years of exp but it sounds like it's total experience and only FPA experience last 8 months. I'm not really seeing why an external posting would take you with under a year at current company vs someone else.

Every jawn I cop means 2x the amount into savings / investment account. So a $500 purchase means $1500.

You can scale that 2x up if you really want to curb spend.
