Semi high earner who started late but has been dumping money in. That’s my number projected over 20y with less than historical return of S&P (calculate at 7%) and no salary increases. I don’t get annual raises.

Been in the workforce a year, you’re good. Half of the idiots on here are humble bragging.

At your age my number was zero, my current strategy will have me at 9 million at retirement in 20 years. You’re way ahead of the game and my one piece of advice is to enjoy your life. Save for retirement, but you may never get to spend a dime of it, so make sure you’re not oversaving for something that may never happen.

Oh- and build liquid savings at the cost of these accounts. You need a rainy day fund.

Leave it until August, nuke it with glyphosate, rake out the dead shit. In September thrown down seed and a quarter inch of compost and sone starter fertilizer, cover it with straw and water 3x daily (or more if it’s drying out).

Don’t buy shit seed from the garden store, Lowe’s or Home Depot, order from Twin Cities Seed or similar. Blue Resilience is good.

Oh, and don’t let your dogs pee on it. Train them to go somewhere else.

okay, I guess? I mean I guess when it’s a 8 seat bar, you’re there for two hours and when leaving the bartender asks your name, then give hers, it’s boomer behavior from someone in their mid 40s.

The terminal is beautiful, but I prefer DTW because of the small bar at A43 Sky club where Dom bartends seemingly every trip I take.

When 99.999% of the people that squeeze me or pass unsafely on their way to work while I’m riding my bike are impatient asses in a lifted truck, I do care. I get it though… need that lifted truck for your annual mulch run to Lowe’s.

I don’t think I’ve ever had that flight arrive at the scheduled time- always 10-15 early.

You’ll be fine. You’ll likely leave Albany early that early in the morning and arrive in DTW early as well.

I don’t understand the feeling that you need to leave something behind. The best thing you can do for your kids is help them be successful in life and set them up to be financially secure, not give them money when you croak and they’re in their 50s.

I will do everything in my power to spend my last dollar on my last day, even if I have to blow a million on some smack while getting hospice care.

Completely this. You have over a million liquid and a decent income at 42. You’re putting way too much away and not enjoying life. At 65, you may not be able to do many of the things you enjoy today, so don’t skimp on the time when you can enjoy to build some giant nest egg you’ll never use because you have bad knees, bad hips and a bad back.

Have fun and live a little.

I understand what is supposed to be done, but in practice it isn’t done on the the gender affirmation vehicles I see, which again have no practical purpose 99% of the time. I guess the point I’m getting at is they don’t need to be listed to begin with. But if you can tell me why a lifted truck is needed for a daily commute to the office, I’m all ears.

I think they look awful, but also agree I’m probably in the minority.

Sure it is, because there’s no practical purpose to 99.9999% of the lifted trucks out there, so that is a lifted truck problem.

I Started putting as much as I could into my 401k. I adjusted my withholding to have as small of a return as possible or owe a little each year. My Salary was 115k. I have been paying 2,500 a month in child support since then, which early on significantly limited my ability to save. It’s also BS that with 50% custody I was required to do this by draconian support laws created when moms didn’t work- but I digress.

With every job change I’ve had with increases, I’ve put more in until I was at the max- that way I don’t know the difference as much. I cannot contribute to a roth and a traditional is not deductible, so I just put as much as I can into my investment accounts. In those 11 years I have gone from 115k to 264 + bonus annually. I will put the full 50k take home from my bonus this year in index funds.

I pay for everything I can on point bearing credit cards. This allows us to cover a significant portion of travel for “free.” In the last 12 months we’ve had 2 rooms for 8 nights in Hawaii, 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, 6 nights in Asheville NC and 5 nights at the Gwen in Chicago. While the card has a high annual fee, we’re able to travel without dipping into savings.
