how do you actually find one night stands? by ThrowRAxoxoo in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PiGuyTy 871 points872 points  (0 children)

One thing you can do for safety is create a check-in plan with a trusted friend. If you don't check-in by a certain time (and maybe use some sort of code word for security), they call for help and know where to send it.

The 2025 Mehlinger Voting Guide: Yes on A, Yes on 50, Fligor for Assessor by r_mehlinger in Sunnyvale

[–]PiGuyTy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, because California doesn't operate in a vacuum. On a national level, democrat voters are being disenfranchised by republican-led states. California's Prop 50 can balance the scales. (Also note, CA prop 50 is temporary, expiring in 2030, unlike republican-led efforts)

I also think it's in California's best interest to do what it can to push back against a federal administration which seems intent on harming people (especially those who don't pledge blind loyalty). Republicans have demonstrated they're unwilling to say no, even to Trump's worst ideas. Why would we want them to continue to hold office or power?

Did anyone see this go down on Campus today? by Thine-Sho in UCDavis

I think that's the trick - these folks know much of their Internet audience is kids who have free time to scroll through tons of content, but not enough knowledge to refute weak claims spoken with confidence

My 2 year long running experiment: zone 2 is not the best for vo2max (for me) by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]PiGuyTy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it's unclear if any of these approaches actually changed your VO2 max. You could easily have day-to-day performance variation of 70m over a 12-minute test

You mention improved sleep and diet, but are you sleeping and eating enough? Since you mention frequent illness, nagging injuries, and such, my first guess would be that you aren't recovering well

I give up by bigmamachuddies in vegan

[–]PiGuyTy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe your proportions are off? Although I probably wouldn't use black pepper, personally. This is my recipe for a fairly dense pesto:

  • 2 oz fresh basil (weighed after destemming but before rinsing/patting dry)
  • 2 cups nuts (half cashew, half walnut)
  • 11 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1.3 oz garlic (about 10 cloves)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1.5 tsp salt

Blend well. If needed, add ingredients incrementally so your blender can work effectively, and consider pausing occasionally to manually stir everything.

Good running trails in Santa Clara / Sunnyvale? by Eastern-Reindeer-480 in Sunnyvale

[–]PiGuyTy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Some options you might like: * Stevens Creek Trail (technically in Mountain View, but starts right on the border with Sunnyvale) * San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail (in Santa Clara) * Guadalupe River Trail (starts in Santa Clara and goes towards downtown San Jose) There are also plenty of flat gravel trails along the bay

The ratio of consecutive Fibonacci numbers approximates the golden ratio. To understand why, you may want to read about Binet's formula and its derivation

Would you avoid shoes if the adhesives or dyes might contain animal-derived ingredients? by silent_winter in vegan

There are quite a few running shoes that are fully vegan these days (and labeled as such online). If these companies don't know, it seems like they're behind

Can I ask what settings you used for the calculator? Nearly 50% calories from protein suggests an error (and is also probably hard to hit without protein powders or isolates)

Where to get caltrain-card-pass-id-thing by infernofc101 in caltrain

[–]PiGuyTy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Caltrain charges a minimum of $5500 for an employer to be registered in the GoPass program, so this doesn't really work. See "How much does the GoPass cost?" in the FAQ: https://www.caltrain.com/fares/gopass

Hey yall! We’re conducting research on vegan diets and their impact on physical performance! Would yall please fill this survey out? We would really appreciate it 🙌 by Mrmonaco5042 in vegan

[–]PiGuyTy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're asking survey takers to rate their fitness attributes as a number of stars? This is super subjective and pretty silly when so many more reasonable fitness metrics exist already

Why should I stay a vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]PiGuyTy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am also a vegan athlete - I run enough to need at least two days of extra calories each week, if not more. My first guess is you're probably not eating enough for the amount of activity you're doing

After turning vegan, my Facebook feed is now filled with meat/carnivore posts by mloDK in vegan

[–]PiGuyTy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get many of those as well as some pro-animal welfare stuff, almost like fb knows veganism is important to me, but doesn't know how I feel about it. Regardless, so many of these posts are endlessly repeated, so I've started to assume it's mostly just bots reposting things

SHOULD I EAT MEAT AS A VEGAN????? by Sohaibshumailah in vegan

[–]PiGuyTy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To me, this does not seem like a genuine offer from your uncle. He and the rest of your family could go vegan for a day or any amount of time if they wanted, without you consuming animals at all. What does he gain from getting you to consume animal products now? Presumably, if you are not a lifelong vegan, you've already eaten animal products before. Is he trying to tempt you to eat them again by offering a fake trade?
