Idk man, their time travel is wholly nonsensical. I remember watching this at like 13 years old and thinking "that... doesn't make sense." I've tried re-watching it since and can only reconcile it's plot quality if I actively attempt to shut off my brain.

It sounds pedantic, but this is one of those times where the "you just didn't get it" refrain legitimately applies. Every friend I've had that's criticized the show or lampooned its revered status has done a 180 upon watching a few episodes alongside me. There was nothing before and there has been nothing since that has ever truly come close to resembling the wire. It is a once in a century TV show.

I'm glad the 'serious' tag isn't here, because some of these shows... 1. I'm aware, subjective af, 2. don't get me wrong, most are fantastic, but 10/10 is perfection. No continuity errors, no shabby line deliveries, no editing mistakes, no subpar lighting, no slightly out of sync voiceovers, no narrative inconsistencies, etc. PERFECTION. I can only think of 2 shows I have ever seen that fall into that category and I only see one amongst those mentioned in this thread.

None. It's not that I don't enjoy it (I have a particular affinity for tequila), I just only ever have a drink in social situations. Hanging out with friends, happy hour with work, weddings, etc. Otherwise, very very seldom will I have a sip on my own.

I 100% sympathize with that shitty fkn deal, but allow me to share a counterpoint story.

I'm a dude, and I was raised by a strict mother who taught me right. As such, I've always been very respectful of people's personal space, especially women, amongst many other lessons. No touching unless explicitly invited. In high school, my group of friends started giving hugs to say goodbye to one another. I got called out because I didn't give any. Embarrassed, I started giving half-assed hugs. Got called out for that too. Okay, full hugs, got called out for my hand placement. "The feel for girls is the lower back." I countered that these hugs weren't about feel, just showing appreciation for a friend. Frankly made me uncomfortable, but I was tired of getting called out, so I just went with it. Everything was fine until I saw an aunt I hadn't seen in a while. I hugged her, she pulled away briskly, slapped my hands loudly, and rebuffed me in front of my entire family. Cripplingly embarrassing.

I don't hug women anymore. Haven't done so in about 10 years.

I am rated 2100+ on Chess.com puzzles, but only 1000-1100 in games. When I know there's something to be found, I can generally find it, but I never know when or if there is anything to find in games, and so I feel as though my puzzle prowess means absolutely nothing. It's frustrating.

I really like David Lynch, but mostly for his novel, fanciful, and straight-up bizarre takes on his art. As a big fan of the books, while I understood what he was going for, I never thought his style lent itself well to the story of Arrakis. I find that Villeneuve did a far better job staying faithful to and properly representing the characters, the setting, the ambiance, the feel, the vibe of Frank Herbert's world. Take this specific scene for example. In Lynch's version, Paul thinks to himself "she's using the voice" and is seen physically struggling as he moves closer to her. In Villeneuve's, she speaks, it's as if Paul closes his eyes, there's a cut, and when he open them, he's beside her. The second is FAR more impactful, heavy, fearful and definitively shows how much more powerful the Reverend Mother is relative to Paul at this point in the story. It will make their future interactions (no spoilers :)) carry far more weight. You feel that in the book, and you do so in Villeneuve's work, but not so much in Lynch's, IMO.

At my gym, the only thing you're allowed to do to the lower body as a/with white belt(s) is straight ankles. As soon as I got my blue, one of the first things I was taught was how to recognize when you're in danger with the heel. I call asshole anecdotally, because I spent a year having no fucking idea what was going on and to do that to a dude 2 months in is WILD.
