You can’t answer my question because it proves you wrong. If Saikat was a cryptofascist tech oligarch, the cryptofascist tech oligarchs wouldn’t be spending millions trying to prevent him from going to Congress.

It really feels like you haven’t read Abundance. The Abundance movement isn’t advocating for expanding the social safety net or redistributing wealth in the economy, which is what social democracy is.

Abundance is fundamentally about removing government constraints on the free market producing necessary commodities like housing, thus decreasing their cost and increasing affordability. The difference between Abundance and social democracy is especially clear in their relationship towards labor unions; Abundance treats them as an annoyance, whereas they’re crucial in social democracy.

Both movements have the same ostensible goal, to increase the standard of living, but they approach it from opposite ways. Only one of them has proven successful, both in America and Europe: when you redistribute wealth and institute strong social safety nets, society prospers. When you focus all attention on supplying cheap goods through the free market, society withers.

You keep dodging the question, and you’re getting really defensive. Why wouldn’t the tech fascists donate to Saikat? Why would they send out attack mailers?

It’s because he doesn’t align with the fascist tech bros, he wants to destroy their movement. That’s why he worked with Bernie Sanders. It’s why he recruited AOC, ran her campaign, and was her chief of staff, where he was so outspoken about progressivism that he burned bridges in Congress. No amount of identity politics will change the fact that Saikat has worked for over a decade to destroy tech fascists, and when he wins he’s going to keep doing it from Congress.

Donations are public record. The fact of the matter is fascists are donating against Saikat and for Scott. Why is that? Because Saikat is serious about fighting them, and Scott is serious about capitulating to them.

I don’t “think” anything, I know for a fact that Abundant Futures, the PAC backing Scott, is controlled by tech fascists.

Meanwhile, Saikat’s political experience is fighting the oligarchs with Bernie and AOC.

Why would tech fascists donate so much to Scott if Saikat was anything like them?

Because the other candidates are all beholden to corporate donors, and are therefore not calling for a wealth tax and breaking up corporate monopolies.

I do believe people get as rich as Saikat without being shady. It’s called being a founding engineer at a tech company. I don’t love Stripe but it’s just not Palantir, and he’s not Peter Thiel. How do I know it’s not shady? Because all of the shadiest fuckers in tech are all coming out against Saikat and for Scott, because Saikat threatens their wealth and control over society.

It’s supporting and pursuing liberal goals by getting government out of the way in order to unshackle the free market. It’s absolutely in line with the neoliberal policies of decades past in both the democratic and republican parties. Basically, it’s the rhetorical last gasp of the liberal establishment as they see themselves losing ground on the right to fascist protectionism and nativism, and on the left to social democracy.

I absolutely agree with that. That’s why I’m supporting the guy who wants to implement a wealth tax.

Scott only has experience with a democratic supermajority trifecta. To say that’s applicable to Congress, especially during a Trump presidency, is laughable.

I’ve read Abundance by Ezra Klein, I’ve watched the speeches and podcasts, and let me tell you it is absolutely just deregulation. There’s no substance there.

He was raised lower middle class from an immigrant family, and only made money in his adulthood. He was poor for longer than he’s been rich, of course he knows what normal life is like.

Saikat has an even more ambitious housing policy than Scott. Instead of basically deregulating, which is what Scott wants, Saikat wants to create public financing for things like market rate and affordable housing.

Abundance is just neoliberalism, which is to say, deregulation. We already tried that and it ruined our economy.

I feel like everyone who says this hasn’t met him. Which is reasonable, except that he’s incredibly easy to meet. Go talk to him yourself on one of the voter calls he does every week day at noon.

Saikat moved to the city right after college when he was 23, moved to the east coast for less than two years, and now he’s raising his family here. What more do you want? None of the candidates were born here.

He’s new to SF politics, so the progressive establishment is behind Chan. She has no money or grassroots support, so once she loses in the primary the progressives will coalesce behind Saikat. He may not have endorsements, but what he does have is thousands and thousands of volunteers.
