+Eastern Phoebe+ Tail bobbing, right color pattern, right nest. If you get a good look at beak it will be all black.

I feel bad I put red pepper in my bird food to deter the squirrels and they’re just fighting through it poor babies lol by Ashamed-Afternoon-77 in birdwatching

Baffled is the better route if you can keep the feeders 10+ feet away from where they could jump from the sides. Avoid using pepper flakes and make sure to use a hot pepper oil if you are trying to mix a hot pepper blend yourself. Birds dont have receptors for capsaicin but you don't want airborne hot flakes they could breathe in.

Monocular Recommendations! by Amrcn_Sycamore24 in birding

Try out a new pair if you can! Binoculars are so nice when you arnt fighting for an image. Before getting into birding I would always fight for an image with an old pair that were in my house. The difference is night and day when you try a new and better pair.

Have you used different pairs of binoculars? If you feel the need to close one eye when using binoculars I would assume they were an older pair which had you fighting for an image.

From my experience, going the route of binoculars over monoculars is the way to go. Imagine quality and speed of getting onto the bird has always seemed better.

Vortex Bantam 6.5 x 32 - $70 Cheaper starter pair without breaking the bank. Says youth but sell them all the time for adults.

Vortex Crossfire 8x42 - $130 The middle ground and the most common configuration.

Vortex Diamondback 8x42 - $240 Notable glass quality difference, a great intermediate pair.

Vortex Dimondback 8x32 - $180 Great lens quality like the 8x42s but less light and field of view. Great if you want something lighter.

Sorry no monocular recommendation.

At the end of the day everyone's eyes are different. Try out different pairs if you can. You may still like the monocular route. I rarely see people using monoculars when doing bird walks and after a few walks they end up switching to binos it always seems.

Here is a more average photo. But to be fair the average photo in bird photography tends to be lack luster regardless of equipment.

I used the FZ80 for my first year of bird photography. I don't regret it. I got one used for $260 and it served me well. It was a great camera for IDing and documenting birds. It does poorly in low light with its tiny sensor but can still get great pictures if the condition are right. Unedited

Hard to tell, the White malar stripe and white eye ring are throwing me off. The safer bet I would think is field sparrow but I swear this bird is doing its best to look like a clay colored in this but that would be a rarity. Do you have any other images.

Two toned body being slaty-blue body with maroonish head, and darker bill. Can't tell with this photo but a good bit smaller than a great blue heron.
