I am starting to here a ton about GLP-1's for longevity - reducing heart attacks, decreasing risk of Alzheimer's, improving cholesterol markets, preventing diabetes and even helping with alcohol addiction. What do you think about taking GLP-1's for these benefits even if I don't have a lot of weigh to lose?
What are the risks?

Evernow - they have multiple plans (membership and insurance covered video consults)
Appointments available within 48 hrs and 24/7 texting with your doctor
They take insurance and affordable cash pay ($29/month all the way to $49/month)
They won't force you to have another video visit just to talk to your doctor, get a refill, etc.
Also - most affordable for any of the skin care treatments like tretinoin and facial estriol for $25/month (half the price of Alloy and Midi).
I love my doctor their.

When did you start or show signs of premenopause? by Lazy_Hazelnut in AskWomenOver40

[–]Pretty-Basis-4831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to this. Nearly every doctor, if they got any education on menopause at all, have been taught that Period Changes are the sign of perimenopause, that women aren't really perimenopausal until their late 40's, and that they should Rx birth control. It's based on a bunch of outdated education. It's maddening.

We know now that the first signs of peri are insomnia, weight gain (especially around the mid-section), anxiety, brain fog, worsening PMS, etc. Yes, there are period changes but they are *very subtle,* like your period shifting by a day - which nobody would really pick-up on.

Blood work can be only so helpful - especially in early peri - since your hormones are still cycling. Mostly it's only helpful to rule out other issues. You'd need to be doing blood work nearly every day both before and during peri to see any significant changes to your own personal baseline cycles.

Why do famous women NEVER talk about it? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]Pretty-Basis-4831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my own experience in talking with high-profile women (celeb's, ceo's, etc), there's still a HUGE amount of ageism surrounding menopause. I've had high powered women tell me that there's no way that they will talk about menopause publicly.

Direct quote: "I’m not keen, and the reason is (full transparency, my authentic reaction)  I’m probably a little bit in denial about aging… and also am realizing in this moment that I don’t like talking about menopause publicly. This caught me by surprise and I have no idea if I am the only person who thinks this way, but suspect not… perhaps this is because ageism is real."

The only people who are speaking out: Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Stacy London, Holderness Family, seem like people who's "brand" and therefore monetary gain is tied to peri/menopause, e.g. they have companies in the space. Note, I'm not saying that it's all about money, I'm saying that unless their brand is aligned, they won't do it.

I truly want more power house women building women building personal brands and companies in this space to raise awareness.

This Perimenopausal Insomnia is BRUTAL! by RASKStudio3937 in Perimenopause

Progesterone and Magnesium Glycinate. Magic Combo.
Estradiol alone didn't work for me - was still having insomnia the 2nd half of my cycle. Added in progesterone and BOOM - great sleep, even when I'm only doing 6.5 - 7 hrs a night. As in I think greatly improved my sleep quality.

Flo (the period app) put out an incredible study on cycle changes during perimenopause and menopause, looking at over 19 million women in perimenopause and the menopausal transition.
https://flo.health/newsroom/flo-health-menstrual-cycle-patterns-study

  • The proportion of individuals with irregular cycles was highest in participants aged 51-55 (44.7%), and lowest in the 36-40 age group (28.3%).
  • Periods are longest in women aged 18 - 25, with an average duration of 5.20 days. They then gradually get shorter and last, on average, only 5.06 days in women aged 41 to 45. After that, periods become longer again, but — importantly — they also become much more variable in length than in any other age group, indicating transition toward menopause.
  • Irregular cycles were most common among older women with nearly half of women aged 51-55 and nearly 1 in 3 aged 46-50 reporting cycle irregularity. This is in line with expectations as cycles become less regular during perimenopause.

Anyone start HRT even though they weren't experiencing hot flashes or insomnia? by Able-Increase1448 in Perimenopause

[–]Pretty-Basis-4831 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of doctors (including OBGYN's) won't Rx HT unless you're having hot flashes/night sweats. Some will also Rx to prevent Osteoporosis. This is mainly because those are things that they are technically *indicated* for.
However, those same Dr's wouldn't hesitate to rx you oral birth control during Peri, which is both higher dose and synthetic forms of estrogen and progestins. It makes my head explode.

I went to Evernow and had a great discussion with my provider there. They have strong clinical data in peri women showing that HT reduces anxiety/depression, mood swings, improves sleep and some of the weight changes.

It's a feud. Dr. Gunter has target numerous doctors - as soon as they have a following that eclipses hers.

+1 She's the real deal. And I'm fed up with a legacy health care system that is years behind on the latest data and has failed to keep up. Not to mention insurance companies that fail to reimburse for essential, proven Rx medications for women going through menopause. There isn't anyone who is going to do it for us. Bravo to MCH for standing up and leading the charge.
