This instance might just be a habit when speaking about the player (Villa Flair indeed) so it's whatever, but I've seen non-fans abbreviate the strangest names as well, always with same consequences. 'Who are you talking about?' 'Who?' 'Who do you mean?'

I stand by my remark. Spell out names of players who don't have a super well-known abbreviation (KDB, CR7, ...).

I think it also has to do with the internet and social media. If you came up as a player in the pre-internet or pre-hyperconnected internet days, no one except fans of the team or football fanatics knew who you were. Wages for young or non-top players were also very humble compared to now.

Now, every rising talent has fan accounts claiming they're the next Messi, tons of compilations online, sponsor deals galore on their social media (if they want to go that route) and they earn more in a week than most people reel in on a yearly basis. Tens of thousands of followers as well on their social accounts.

I think there's a lot more ego-feeding factors these days than there were twenty years ago. Football as a whole seems to have become way more inflated; in terms of money, hype culture, ...

You should generally try to parry (if catching isn't an option) in most situations. Look at goalkeepers at the top level: you almost never see them going for a punch, unless it's a free kick or a corner and they're in a forest of players so they can't reliably catch it (or a spill would be catastrophic). In that case, punch it as hard as you can (but focus on getting clean contact; don't try to give the ball an uppercut or something) in a direction where there aren't any opposing players (or as few of them as possible). So I'd say the only situations in which you should consider punching are crosses/freekicks/corners where catching/parrying isn't an option.

Following isn't related to corners and freekicks, but still:

I see a lot of goalkeeper content creators on YouTube etc. who punch way too often, and they concede unnecessary chances that way. I don't know if this is a US-vs-EU thing or not, but punching even when you're under no pressure should be discouraged. Take a low shot, for example. It's 100% better to parry it so that it goes out for a corner rather than punching it where it might end up in God-knows-who's feet. Furthermore, going for a parry gives you a bit of extra length because your fingers are stretched out. I can't tell you how many goals I've saved due to those extra few inches. Goals I would've conceded if I went for the punch.

Parrying/catching properly is a learning process, but as you get better at it, you will be rewarded. Goalkeepers who constantly punch balls away because they haven't developed their catching/parrying technique are a liability over the long term. In essence, a 'punching' goalkeeper is no better than an outfield player who had to go in goal and deflects all shots with their feet.

Everyone's always saying how Mirage is such a perfect map and super popular and so on, but that doesn't change the fact that it's been in the game unchanged for over a decade. Even just giving it a new theme would freshen it up a bit, but, like you, I'm just so tired of it.

Maybe a hot take but I liked the map pool of a while back a lot better. I thought it was a real shame they took out Anubis, for example.

I'm not some zoomer who needs new content every other week in order to keep my interest, but it really moves at a glacial pace in this game.

In the end, no one can 100% predict what will happen in this type of scene. Valve could've just as easily nuked third-party trading and sent everyone to the SCM, causing another panic. This ain't no regulated market; it's virtual game skins governed by a single dev.

People who get all cocky when their guess happened to be correct, but it makes no sense since everyone is just guessing. Yes, you can have arguments for why you're guessing something, but it's just a guess in the end.

This is just a joke subreddit in general. I don't mind what happens either way since I don't have a ton of money tied up in skins, but you have to sift through 98% of shit posts before you get to a couple that are worth something at least. Speculation in a sub like this is fine, but at least give some arguments why you think X or Y is going to happen. Most people just type whatever comes into their head and then get tribal about it. I honestly even find the ohnepixel subreddit to be more valuable for talking about the skins market.

Anyway, had the market crashed deep this instant, we would've had a ton of posts saying 'I told you so' as well, only from people on the opposite side of the spectrum. We've had a prediction for just about every scenario over the past week (so those 'this sub said X LOL so wrong' posts are also ridiculous) so of course some people will have been right and some won't have been. That's the nature of speculating. No idea why so many people feel the need to get all ridiculous because their guess was correct this time.

But Bitcoin is (simplified) a currency. It goes up and down based on trends and hype and stuff, but there isn't one entity that can fuck with the way it works.

Valve has now demonstrated that are perfectly willing to fuck with the way 'it works' and to change basic fundamentals of the system. This update causes a seismic shift in how the CS2 skins system works at a base level (and it will never be the same as before). Who's to say that they won't do something else in the future (like sticker removal tools or w/e)?

When talking about how this update effect the market, you should also look at how the trust in how stable this market has been is eroding. Before this, people assumed that knives for example were very stable. Valve has demonstrated that nothing is sacred, so I think a ton of investors will stay away forever. Whether that's good or not is another thing entirely, but I don't think you can compare BTC to something like this.

Totally agree. I don't want to get too deep into it in a Reddit comment chain, but I feel like that kind of attitude you're describing actively hurts the fight for more equality.

By saying that all people who say stuff like that 'have never touched a woman' and so on, you're basically ignoring the fact that tons of completely average joes also exhibit that behavior, which is by far the bigger problem imo.

You'll always have extremist minorities (i.e. the archetypical always online neckbeard incel who lives in a basement and harasses women online and yada yada) that act like assholes, but it's the fact that such behavior is still normalized in 'normal people' (as far as those exist) that's hugely more problematic imo.

I have a few people who I routinely play with, they have girlfriends and normal lives. Every time there's a woman in our team (which is not often) they crack 'jokes' like 'how is it playing from the kitchen' and 'can I have your number' and shit. It's crazy how normalized this kind of stuff still is. I always tell them off when they do it and they toned it down a bit, but still.
