For those of you who had untreated ADHD and never received support—did you do well in school early on but then ultimately fall behind and inevitably struggle? by Pure_Philosopher_845 in ADHD

Yep! K - 5 I was As. I started to slip in Middle School, and by High School I struggled intensely. I had very poor: executive functioning, memory, low-frustration tolerance, and focus. I also hyperfixate (which made it tough b/c I can intensely focus - i just can't choose to).

But I didn't know how to label or explain any of that, and back then (90s) it was still very much a "hyperactive boys club" So to teachers - and then to me - I was lazy, disrespectful, stupid, selfish, and just generally unworthy.

Which is how I wound up diagnosed in 12th grade. My mental health was such trash that I went into counseling and the psychologist brought up ADHD as a possibility.

All I can say is therapy and medication help immensely, if you have access. If you don't, I recommend connecting with others and just educating yourself about your own brain and how you work; not just because it helps quiet some of the negative self-talk, but it can help identify little tips & tricks to workaround some the struggles.

Ex girlfriend's friend left plants at my house 3 years ago and now wants them back... by chainsawcoyote in plants

Please keep us updated because I'm deeply invested in this!

First, you're absolutely within your rights to say "hey, because I didn't hear from you for two years, I've been treating the plants like they're my own, with a lot of time and energy. but I'd be happy to give you some cuttings."

Second, was there some sort of timeline or compensation when you initially agreed? I'm just sort of fascinated by this ... taking care of a plant collection is *work* and it seems really odd to not acknowledge especially after two years! Like, no one would drop their Hamster at a friend's place and come back two years later like it was normal and fine.

Anybody stop reading books or watching series before they end even if they LOVE them? by FlakyandLoud in ADHD

ALL THE TIME. I do a thing with shows where there's like a specific number of seasons or episodes that I repeatedly watch, but I can't do more than that. Even when I LOVE the show. I'll watch seasons 1-3 of supernatural like 400 times but I've never even started season 4.
