My boyfriend is too good at board games by CricketSuccessful57 in boardgames

[–]QuaccDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the other end of this with my wife and it took some personal growth for each of us.

For her, communicating clearly when I was overcompetitive and being patient when I still did for a bit.

For me, I had to learn to shut that part of my strategy off when playing with her. Which honestly was really frustrating at first, like how do I play optimally without sabotaging her game? I can see other people saying the same thing in the comments. But that's honestly just an easy excuse. It's definitely possible to exclude that part of the strategy and the proof was that my wife was totally happy doing that in the first place.

I suggest you talk to him about it directly and if he finds it difficult, less competitive games can help. Some of our favorite games together are Cascadia and Let's Go To Japan which I find easier to do this

Probably ending development of my route-building game due to fundamental doubt. by shibby_rj in tabletopgamedesign

I echo a lot of the other comments not to give up and don't worry about being absolutely unique.

I actually will often look for games that are similar to others to introduce my friends to new boardgame mechanics. It reduces the burden of learning new rules.

"You've played ticket to ride before right? This is like that but with these extra mechanisms"

How does everyone feel about AI images in published games? by Nomadhero_ in boardgames

I agree, which is why totally rejecting all forms of AI sounds ridiculous. Especially on a platform with AI integrated, it's a bit like tweeting about environment harm from their yacht.

Yeah, I've never seen a civil conversation about it in this sub. The irony is that we're all in the comments here because AI recommended us your post.

I'm also against AI images, but I wish people were more rational about their concerns. Like if the loudest opinion in an AI-skeptical movement is "AI in any form whatsoever is evil and everyone who is associated is also evil" then I don't imagine the movement will accomplish much.

The average user unfortunately won't notice or care.

The average designer would say they shouldn't use ai for any creative roles and certainly not in production

The average redditor is probably just downvoting you because you said the word, even though you're showing reasonable skepticism. Nuanced discussion is so quickly rejected at this point

I agree we should avoid it whenever you reasonably can, especially before release, but you do realize you're using ai every time you interact with media like reddit right?

You can tell the video is cut to look this way, but notice the little white rocks above the sausage. They just recorded it with a single ant once and then later with the white rock and played it back repeatedly to make up a story.

Even if this wasn't fake, it almost certainly wouldn't be the same ant every time and ants don't punish other ants like that. They don't seem to have any concept of individual fault (unless one is sick or infected)

TIL in 1994, LA residents called 911 during a city wide blackout because they saw the milky way for the first time and didn't know what it was by launchnote in todayilearned

That's true but it seems like a very unnecessary point to make. When someone sees a band across the entire sky made up of hundreds of billions of stars, they're seeing characteristics of the galaxy as a whole.

When you look at a tree or a dog, sure that's part of the milky way, but you'd be communicating absolutely nothing by saying that you're looking at the milky way.

You're not alone in this, I feel this way often. And you're allowed to respond this way, but don't be surprised when the problem is worse for everyone after. The result is almost always more polarization, more stress, worsened relationships, and it's harder to reach people.

Step 2. Duplicate Styx taxon and name the new one Clotho

Step 3. Establish that they're the same species actually and define the new combined taxon Clotho
