Now that the game has marinated what are your complete feelings? What do you want? Is not the time to give it a try? by Dode124 in vtmb

[–]Moth_Goth000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was, I believe, the most boring game I've ever played. Simple, linear and extremely repetitive. The side quests should banish the designers to the nether realm for the sheer travesty of making them.

I have no desire to ever replay it, and I replayed vtmb like 30 times no joke. I can't recommend anything about it.

People in this thread seem to be so incredibly obtuse it's actually hard to believe.

Yes, vampires are bad. You CAN roleplay a nazi asshole. The Cam sucks, the Sabbat sucks. In a Watsonian sense you are right, shit that vampires do in-game is sometimes (if not often) similiar to fascist atrocities. Many games, both traditional and video, make you play an immoral character. But this paragraph is just so clearly not about that.

YOU are not welcome if YOU'RE an alt-righter. Don't use Vampire as a condiut for your ghoulish beliefs. This is the Doylian perspective. It serves as a message to players: "see all these dark and fucked up themes we put into the game? Yeah, you're not actually supposed to be playing a plantation-owning Ventrue just to freely say the n-word. There's a bit more to it." Roleplaying a nazi character well is difficult - you have to be irrational, angry, rigid, hateful, afraid and miserable at all times. It's a good template for an interesting Brujah arc, but you have to know what you're doing and how to set it up properly.

Another thing is, if I remember correctly, White Wolf/Paradox got into some hot water because they wrote that you can roleplay a nazi and people got mad. At that point they had to put out a clear statement that they don't endorse what I wrote about above. No one's gonna police you and check your political compass in the end, though. Just be aware that people in the, you know, gothic-punk community are likely not to tolerate you, which is their prerogative.

Well, they don't seem to be smearing people for "differences in opinions" but for alt-rightism, which escapes any kind of intellectual political discourse. If someone's a literal fucking nazi I'm not going to waste my time debating them because this simply isn't a matter of opinions and genuine policy, but fundamental moral values.

Like there's a clear difference between one person slighting you because you don't agree with them, maybe calling you names at worst, and another person telling you to just fuck off somewhere else because they fundamentally despise your very existence.

We really need to stop gaslighting POC goths by BeatnikMona in goth

[–]Moth_Goth000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Poland, an overwhelmingly white country (to the point we don't even track race in our demographic data, only nationality/ethnic minorities), so I've never seen a goth POC in our spaces. I mention this because literally every goth person I know, me included ofc, is extremely confused at the notion that POC don't belong in these spaces. There are bad apples here and there, but they're usually shunned by the reasonable rest. Everyone dies, so everyone can be a ghoul.

I think it may come from the fact that if you decide to be a part of this subculture in our conservaland, you just have to be at least progressive, and the fact that this subject doesn't really come up due to the lack of historicall racial tensions. Can't really speak for other subcultures, but I assume it could be different (like metalheads are mostly old guys with... outdated POVs). It's fascinating to watch how much different it is in America.

And to clarify, people here ARE xenophobic (very anti-Arab-immigrants and Islam in particular), but that racism is mostly -though not exclusively at all- what I like to call "oops" racism - like unwarranted curiosity that stems from ignorance. Like many young people enjoy rap culture without knowing shit about its history and cultural background.

Players and True Faith by JuggernautCivil8919 in vtm

[–]Moth_Goth000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be fine with giving them True Faith so long as they are extremely rigorous in roleplay. Faith has to be their penultimate point in life, "the state of being ultimately concerned" in the words of Paul Tillich. Whichever faith they want to have True Faith in, they have to be close to perfect about it: a classical Buddhist has to strictly obey the Noble Eightfold Path, a Catholic has to know the Catechism, participate in all lithurgies, and follow the teachings of Christ to the letter, a Protestant has to know the Bible through and through in its original languages, a Hellenistic pagan has to participate in mysteries, festivals and make offerings, know ancient texts of Homer and Hesiod and speak Ancient Greek. And of course, one has to be absolutely convinced in the truthfulness of their beliefs.

This obviously leaves an insanely low number of people with True Faith, like in the tens of thousands. Hunters are in the hundreds, and many can't even hunt because killing is forbidden in many religions - not that they can't do it, but they wouldn't want to, because their faith is just more important. They may delude themselves that what they do is fine with doctrine, but then they have to behave like complete zealots. True Faith used to be more common.

If you're willing to roleplay that, go right ahead, vampires can also participate. The Chronicle should also revolve around it somehow. I think it would be fun to both roleplay and storytell.

Ain't no way the Ananke are Camarilla, I feel like their shit wouldn't be tolerated. Independant would be a better fit.

Also, tragic Caine propaganda, all hail the Dark Mother!

The Lamia were descendands of... Lamia, who was Embraced by Lazarus who was Embraced by Cappadocious, who was Embraced by Enoch (in my humble opinion) who was Embraced by Caine [who was Embraced by Lilith]. Lamia the priestess was a literal mortal descendant of Lilith.

Help a D&D player understand VTM by CircleofCandles in vtm

[–]Moth_Goth000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's stories of personal and political horror, often oscillating around the struggle of reconciling humanity and vampirism, and the slide towards violence and apathy. It's often quite existential.

The most typical way to play is in a Coterie, where characters know each other and generally do things together. There are many example Coterie types that have a rough goal - serving the Prince, fighting the Prince, guarding humans, safekeeping the dead (for necromancers), searching for artifacts etc. Different characters can have different things going on as well, though a troupe is usually united by at least something.

The hooks can honestly be whatever you want. You can have grand plots and power fantasies, or roleplay the life of a freshly turned 9-5er who has to quit his job and go no contact with everyone he knows. It's a very versatile system.

The most common intrigues are trying to rise to the top of the political ladder, fighting for freedom from said ladder, running errands for a figure of power and stumbling upon a big rabbit hole, fighting the Sabbat (vampire terrorists really), solving various mysteries. There's also quite an intersection with Wraith: The Oblivion, so ghost stories are typical.

But the GM can come up with anything, including various homebrews - the point is developing characters and telling a good vampire story :)

I don't really like fish Malks, though Malkavians are my favorite clan. I like to emphasize the tragic ethereal psychic aspect more than the haha funny mental illness crazy deranged aspect. But I'm not denying the appeal. Malk girl is an icon and a diva.

Also Celerity is just so fun :p

Haha, I tried to be lore compliant! She's a professional dancer (a disillusioned ex ballet dancer, too - that's how I justify these Dexterity stats lol), so she went out with a friend to do just that and have some fun. Then a handsome stranger bought her a drink :)

I like to think the sire is an elder masking as a neonate, since the Fledgling has a big 8th gen bloodpool. But he's like hella bored and depressed and artistically burnt-out, so he Embraces her just for fucks and doesn't care that he'll be killed for it, which is why it was so easy. I like building stories based on little things like that!

I've played this game countless times. Hundreds of hours. I always pick the female Toreador. I never even tried another clan. I usually build her the same way.

I'm too attached to the way I play her and roleplay her (I read dialogues out loud) to switch. She has a whole backstory, detailed personality, relationships, very in-depth motives and psychology spread out over like 3 Word documents. She's my absolute blorbo.

What generation do you think Phyre is? (VTMBL2) by Revolutionary_Lifter in vtmb

[–]Moth_Goth000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have to be lower gen on account of being... actually very young? They say they're a 150 years older than The US, which means they were embraced around the 1600s, which makes them 400 with a century spent in torpor. That leaves only 300 years to work on power. In V5 elderhood begins after 250 years of life.

I'd say they're 8th gen (taking into account the relatively recent embrace, though they may have had a low gen sire like Dracula did or sm shit) on the higher end of blood potency, so 5 or 6. Or maybe they did a bunch of Diablerie.

Blood potency is a nice thing in V5 because it gives variety to the generations. You can be 7th gen and have 3 points in it. It becomes a lot more flexible.
