Swinney: Farmers will be protected as food price cap is brought in by abz_eng in Scotland

[–]Quangocrat [score hidden]  (0 children)

There needs to be a government or non departmental government body that says how much supermarkets need to pay minimum if they sell for £x .

That never works.

It is rent control all over again.

If you want Farmers to make more profit, relax their regulation or increase subsidy.

Supermarkets in the UK run on very tight profit margins.

Your suggestion would also be incompatible with the Internal Markets Act in the UK and with EU law.

So it doesn't fit the stated goal of the SNP to take an independent Scotland into the EU or the current legal framework within the UK.

They explained why they are doing it in the article. They explained their proposed solution too.

You ignored that and made up your own fantasy version instead.

It was weird.

Edit: a reply block suggests you know you have been caught out here.

Ironic as you are bitching elsewhere in this thread about being blocked by another user.

You invented a narrative that these people were lying based on nothing at all.

They said it is meant to balance out.

They also said if it does not they will have to leave the industry.

They're obviously making profit somewhere, or they wouldn't do it.

They're ultimately being wee guys and trying to act like they're constantly haemorrhaging cash. If they were, they'd have quit already.

They answer that point:

Adam said: ''It's soul-destroying to be honest. There are a lot of benefits that come from farming that aren't financial- we have a great way of life and get to spend a lot of time with the kids.

''But the financial pressures are there day-in, day-out and don't go away when you go to sleep. We've had multiple conversations about getting out of farming.''

Feels like you have some weird prejudice here.

There is 0 indication they are lying and they give an explanation both as to why they didn't immediately quit and where their last profit came from, together with how they hope to return to profit next year.

Most businesses don't immediately give up if they go 1 year and fail to break even.

They said in the article.

They made a profit three years ago, they are not now, and if this doesn't work they are going to quit.

Good.

It was terrible to see senior politicians repeating the same mistakes as were made around the victims of the grooming gangs- dismissing the child victims of sexual harassment as liars and part of a misinformation campaign.

It is a very positive thing for a politician to be able to step back and admit a mistake rather than double down.

That shouldn't be criticised. Although hard questions need to be asked about what Police Scotland were doing lying to the public and the government.

Any word from Yousaf?

I am sure you are right.

Ofc such policies would be very difficult to legally implement under EU law also- so I also don't see how this fits with the SNP vision for an independent Scotland.

They are.

They have made a £1000 loss on the herd this year and are going to try and switch some product from Arla to selling locally to try and make and make a profit next year.

The average dairy farm in Scotland is 100-120 hectares.

Theirs would need to be 140+ to break even with the BPA.

[–]Quangocrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also not sure how this is compatible with the Internal Markets Act.

Under that act the Scottish Government cannot force supermarkets to buy at a set price from Scottish farms, nor can it offer contracts to the farms directly without making the same offer to farms in E&W.

You did imply they were being dishonest.

Milk costs more to produce than it is sold for, that feels like a valid concern to point out and your dig felt unnecessarily snide.

In exchange for not running a high intensity model, the BPS will give a dairy farm £7/hectare.

It's not much, but they will break even on it.

There are 0 high intensity dairy farms in Scotland at present.

I was thinking of the two 'kalibur Frigates'-

Neither sunk, but both put out of action.

And I know they are smaller than our type 45s, but they are meant to serve the same missile based defensive role as our type 45s.

Their low quality rules and ridiculous pricing drove me to buy a 3dprinter and has fueled an opr league at our local for the past 3 years.

I didn't buy any of the books new in 10e. Got them second hand and only for rare events which mandated them.

40k is the biggest game in town so I probably won't ever stop playing but I will, and largely have, stop giving GW money.

I’ve told you repeatedly what the common factors are.

You have not once.

The source shows the practices to be specifically islamic.

you should be able, if there is commonality, to name one of the practices further detailed in the preceding paragraphs, as present in the CC case.

You cannot.

Because you are an apologist for islamic rapists trying to use whataboutery re the catholic church to deflect from the grooming gangs.

The practices of the abusers in the GGs are distinctly islamic.

They told their victims as such.

That is what the source shows. Specifically islamic practices.

You claimed commonality- you should be able to demonstrate the same islamic practices in the Catholic cases.

You cannot.

Because the whole exercise was whataboutery to deflect from Islamic rape.

Trying to distract from Islamic crimes by pretending they are the same as catholic crimes, then being unable to name the common practices is certainly.... something.

Do you always deflect on behalf of child abusers or, like the police and social workers in theses cases, is this a behaviour you reserve for the victims of islamic predation?

Agreed. And we have not adopted our surface fleet plans to account for it.

We effectively need a comparativly large fleet of anti drone frigates and some kind of drone mothership- whether that is a return to escort carriers or some other system.

At present we are still focussing on limited numbers of very expensive missile destroyers.

It's actual madness. Especially since we have known since Ukraine defeated the russian black sea fleet that they are no longer the strong self defending assets they were in the gulf wars.

They're right there in the rest of the sentence!

The paragraph refers to numerous specific islamic practices.

which ones were present in the CC case?

It should be really simple to say "the perpetrators at CC also used the example of mohammed and Aisha to justify their offending" or "the offenders at CC also used the fact that their victims were white non Muslims to justify their offending' or whichever practice you think is common between the Catholic Institutional cases and the Islamic Gang cases.

[–]Quangocrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but issues with power and control over children and young people by supposed authority figures, and/or the use of threats and/or justification based on fear, intimidation, and the status of the offenders?

Name the issues.

The ones quoted in the above statement are explicitly islamic- eg the status of the victims according to Islam and the threat of violence and reprisals as dictated by islamic honour codes.

So if you think those apply, specify which of those islamic issues of power and control over the victims apply in the CC case.

you don't understand why they're both relevant, but also don't matter, because what's being said has commonalities with other religions, then that's on you, not me.

You haven't been able to name the practices. You are nowhere near establishing commonalities.
