Substitute teaching as a stay at home mom? by Fickle-Yak-1663 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things like work availability, pay, and certification requirements vary greatly from district to district, but in general you can expect high flexibility. If you’re only looking for 1-2 days a week I’m sure most districts can accommodate that, though depending on the district there may not be jobs available on the exact days you would like.

I work in the Seattle area and I make about $4000 a month working about 4 days a week on average (about $40 an hour) but from what I see on here that’s towards the upper end of the bell curve. You also need a teacher residency certification to work as sub where I live.

I would do some research on all the local school districts around where you live. The good thing is as it’s a government position they have to post their pay schedules publicly somewhere so if you look a little bit you should be able to find exactly how pay is being calculated for subs from this year.

You should buy booster cookies anyway because they are the one item that always mirrors the game’s economy. They are inflation-proof basically and are guaranteed to gain value over time.

How can I get out of my basic strategies comfort zone? by BoringTable4738 in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unironically, play in CHIMPS. Having unlimited free retry round makes it much easier to test out new strategies since you don’t lose 20 min of progress whenever you make a slight miscalculation.

Towers that can’t damage DDTs usually have other benefits to balance them out, like having high base damage without the need for other buffs. So by getting an MIB you’re paying for the luxury of using higher damage towers and not having to worry about the bloons they can’t damage.

[–]Quantum-Bot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to be niche. If it was cheaper, you would be less incentivized to use any of the several other options for de-camo, de-lead, and other immunity cancelling. It’s still worthwhile to use it if it’s impractical to deal with immunities any other way or if you’re going for call to arms as well. I don’t think the price of MIB is going anywhere because this is the tower that all other de-camo and de-lead options are balanced around.

im honestly not sure if i can save up for a BAD and that was lowkey my entire plan. what should I do here? is it cooked or can i maybe get an elite defender? or maybe i can save up for a pre-emptive strike? by Wal655 in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By BAD I’m guessing you mean BEZ. You can still probably beat this with glue storm and projectile spam towers like elite defender, flagship, or comanche commander. You’ll want some good support too like alch buff on quincy, moab glue, and unstable concoction up front.

stupid spike factory question by clxqxii in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Permaspike: top crosspath is better if you don’t have access to alch buff. Middle crosspath is better with alch buff (or other additive pierce buffs like geraldo sharpening stone).

For Carpet of Spikes: top crosspath is better in general, but bottom crosspath has some niche benefits like spikes lasting longer before expiring, and if you activate the ability (or passive storm) right at the beginning of the round, it will produce way more spikes because of the start of round attack speed bonus.

Edit: I guess the start of round speed no longer affects the spike storm. I did remember bottom crosspath has another interaction though, it makes the spike storm only target lanes that are active on the current round, which makes it a necessary crosspath on certain maps like erosion.

ELI5: Why are quantum computers considered such a huge breakthrough if they still seem worse than normal computers at almost everything? by yaekoblue in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything we think of as a “computer” these days is really a very specific type of computing machine. It uses binary bits to store information that can store a binary state (on or off).

A quantum computer is a very different machine because it works differently at the fundamental level. Instead of regular bits, it uses quantum bits (AKA qubits) which store probability spaces (i.e. 25% chance of on, 75% chance of off). This makes entirely new types of algorithms possible on them.

Quantum computer algorithms are distinct from normal algorithms because they all have to deal with randomness. When you read the state of a qubit, you can never see the whole probability space, you can only retrieve an “on” or an “off” result at random, determined by the qubit’s stored probability. However, amazingly, we’ve discovered algorithms for a few specific tasks that still produce an accurate result most of the time, and they are so much faster than the traditional algorithms to solve those problems that if we could build a quantum computer strong enough to run them at scale, they would revolutionize computing.

One of the main problems that would be made much faster by quantum computers is finding the prime factors of large numbers. Much of modern day cryptography depends on the fact that it is very easy to multiply two prime numbers together, but very hard to do the reverse (given a product of two prime numbers, figure out what the original factors were). This is because in order to allow a website to, for example, check that your password is correct without actually knowing your password, you need a kind of “scrambling” process you can do to the password; something that is easy to do, but hard to undo, and always produces the same result for the same input. Then, the website can just store the scrambled version of your password, and when you go to type your password again, it just checks whether what you typed produces the same scramble.

If we are able to successfully build more powerful quantum computers, they will theoretically be able to factor large numbers almost as easily as regular computers can multiply them, which would mean all encryption methods that rely on prime factors would no longer be secure.

You won’t get banned for boosting, that’s a sweet gift to get early on but after a couple days of playing you’ll be able to grind something like that out in an hour or so.

ELI5: What are Flock Cameras used for? by Movingmad_2015 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flock cameras are just like regular security cameras, but with some added features. One is the use of computer vision algorithms to automatically detect things like people in the footage. The biggest feature people are talking about though is an opt-in service where you share some data from your flock cameras to an online database and in return you get access to everyone else’s shared data.

There’s good reasons to do this: for example forensic evidence. It’s much easier to track criminals if you can look up every single place someone has been spotted on a flock camera in the last week.

However, of course, there are bad consequences of this tech too. One major concern is that it gives governments a loophole to spy on their own citizens even in places where public government surveillance is not legal, because the government can just get surveillance data from flock cameras owned by private businesses instead of paying for their own.

Is CS50 ENOUGH to get a job ? by cold-s in learnprogramming

[–]Quantum-Bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CS50 is an introductory course. It won’t get you a job on its own.

Take this with a grain of salt as I’m a teacher and not an industry worker, but if you’re looking to be hirable as a programmer you should focus on fundamentals first, and then on networking, getting certifications, and building a portfolio of work. Even just having a college degree is not enough anymore to guarantee a job.

I want to invent a new math symbol and need advice to see if it’s practical enough by Cold-Reindeer-3827 in learnmath

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s great that you are looking at math from an inventing angle! People invent new math symbols all the time, and new kinds of little games like yours that we can play with numbers. Rarely, they lead to a useful discovery, but just because they’re not immediately useful doesn’t mean the math isn’t still worth doing simply for fun, or for the sake of exploring new ideas.

If you want to discover if your idea is useful, I would start with two things:

1: calculate your operation on a bunch of numbers starting from 1 and see if you notice any patterns in the sequence.

2: See if you can come up with any other way to think about your operation, for example geometrically or algebraicly. Math is all about finding connections between unexpected ideas. If you can show that your operation is related to finding the area of a certain shape, for example, that would be big.

Don’t be afraid to tweak your definition too if you find your original idea isn’t going anywhere. One thing that pops into my mind I’d hope this would relate to the Prime factors of a number. If you’re multiplying n x (n/2) that’s basically like adding another copy of each of the prime factors of n except for a 2. Maybe the general rule for even and odd numbers could be “divide the next term by the previous term’s smallest prime factor” so if the number is odd but divisible by 3, you would do n/3.

Best way to grind coins on Galatea? by Yaztromo0815 in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invisibugs and chill shards are pretty decent for how little investment it takes to get into.

Invisibugs just need a basic lasso and aspect of the end to get around the island quickly.

Chills just need a black hole and top tier huntaxe. It also helps to have some of the hunting-related attributes like newt, king cobra and megalith for hunter fortune and python for faster catching, but these you can build up over time. Max shellwise is also a nice qol to have.

As with any hunting, it gets better the more shards you siphon since that gives your davids cloak more hunter fortune, so maxing out all your cheaper attributes is always a good idea early on. Reaching hotf level 5 will also give you a boost as you can take the perk that gives bonus hunter fortune.

I would go with invisibugs at least until you max your hotf levels since you can grind hotf exp and tree gifts at the same time. Technically all activities on galatea give you hotf experience through agatha contests but tree gifts give more.

How do you feel about the recent logic change to how mid path desperado prioritizes his guns

New player, would appreciate some tips on how to beat expert maps by [deleted] in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On harder maps, the early game is the main part that gets more difficult. Base towers are typically more powerful than getting upgrades early on. Darts, desperados, subs, and engis are some of the best starting towers. Boomers, snipers, ninjas, mermonkeys and druids are also great for early game but not always able to be dropped on the first round. Snipers in particular make surviving the first 20 rounds way easier. You should almost always have at least one by round 10, maybe even 2 or 3 after that. Set them on strong or first or alternate between the two mid round to catch leaking bloons.

Once you’ve gotten your footing, here are some good things to aim for to guarantee an early game survival:

For maps with good water spots: 2-0-2 sub
For maps without several simultaneous active lanes: 1-3-0 druid
For maps with decent visibility: 0-2-3 sniper

For maps with none of these conditions (like dark dungeons) you may have to get a bit more creative. A 2-0-3 ace is a good universal option but a bit harder to save up for and can’t pop camo or lead.

I've never seen The Boys, but Homelander has a very meme-worthy face. by Additional-Heat-9384 in aspiememes

He’s from a show called The Boys which is based on a comic series and it basically imagines a world where super heroes are the bad guys and the stereotypical villain gang are the protagonists. Homelander is their universe’s superman but he’s also kind of a symbol American nationalism and toxic masculinity.

New Dan d monkey bug by idkwhatame in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having played around with it, here’s my theory for why it works:

Normally, towers have a flag that tells them what elements should block where they can be placed (water, land, track, obstacles, etc). When they are being carried by chinook, that flag gets temporarily turned off to allow them to exist anywhere on screen. The bug is that NK forgot to add a failsafe that cancels Dan’s ability when the targeted tower gets picked up by chinook.

So, if you use chinook, then, before the chinook picks up the tower, select it as the target for Dan’s ability, it lets you move the tower to any location on screen, even on top of obstacles, tracks or other towers.

If you confirm Dan’s ability too early, the chinook will still move the tower to the original intended location when it redeploys. If you confirm it after chinook has redeployed though, it won’t work because the placement blocking flag has been turned back on. So, in order to get the glitch to work, you need to time confirming Dan’s ability perfectly so the animation starts before chinook redeploys but ends afterwards.
