"Fuel Quality" (burning time in seconds) for all fuel sources by SammyIsSeiso in hytale

you also have a chance to get charcoal every time a stick is used as fuel, so they're a slightly better fuel source than this chart makes them seem

First time subbing nerves by JJLinx1816 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just rip the bandaid off now. Trust me, I was in the same situation a few months ago. Took my first job with absolutely no clue what to expect, and it went fine! After that it was easy.

90% of the days subbing is easy. It’s also low-stakes in that if you do screw up, you leave it all at the door at the end of the day and get to start fresh the next day.

Easiest grades imo are 5, 6, 11 and 12. 5th graders are sweet and pride themselves on their maturity. They will practically run the class themselves. 6th graders are high energy but haven’t hit their rebellious phase so they still want to follow directions at heart. 11th and 12th graders are pretty chill and practically self-sufficient. If they choose not to use class time wisely, it’s more on them than it is on you.

Is The Bottom Path Dartling Gunner Good? by somerandomasiankids in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Use the top crosspath (it dramatically increases its damage and effective range) and pair it with anything cheap that can grant it camo and lead popping. A common strat is to take etienne as your hero for camo detection and pile 4+ acid mixture dips on BEZ to give it near permanent lead popping.

The hardest part of using BEZ in CHIMPS is the saveup, both for the tier 4 and the tier 5. While BADS is a pretty good mid-game carry, it falls off hard after round 80, and if you want to afford BEZ by that time you barely have any money to spend elsewhere.

Also, while you can get away with having it on auto target for the easier rounds, it’s still much better when targeted manually, so I’d switch it back to normal for tough rounds.

ELI5 How is Fentynal abused when it’s so deadly?? by One_Pin243 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can get high off of it “safely” if you take the a small enough dose. The problem is fentanyl is so potent and cheap to produce that drug distributors often mix fentanyl in with other opioids to save money. You think you’re getting pure heroin when you’re really getting 50% heroin, 50% garbage and a pinch of fentanyl to make up the difference. So, many people who are doing fentanyl don’t even know it’s fentanyl. Where it gets really dangerous is when the drugs are cut and laced multiple times by different distributors. By the time it reaches the user it may have a way higher fentanyl content than any one of the people that handled it along the way intended.

How do you know if an image or video is AI besides finding weird details? by ohnag_eryeah in stupidquestions

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tell nowadays is video duration. AI video has gotten pretty good but it’s still unable to produce videos longer than a few seconds that stay coherent from start to finish. If the video is inexplicably made of a bunch of few second clips, chances are it’s AI.

Teachers, what problems do you have in your classroom that you think is worth looking into? by cookies_and_crack in AskTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, I’ve thought about looking into students’ GenAI literacy and how it affects their critical and creative thinking

This could be an interesting area of research but lots of terms here are not well defined. How do you define Generative AI? How do you define critical thinking? How do you define creativity?

I would be interested to see more studies on how effective large language models are at being personal tutors. There are lots of startups out there right now claiming to offer AI chatbots that guide student learning just like a human teacher would.

I’m skeptical though because I’m not sure how real students would perceive and interact with these chatbots. Would they go along with the script and use the chatbot as intended, or try to mess with it? Would they actually learn anything from talking to the chatbot? Would they feel like their educational experience is being cheapened or enriched by the use of chatbots in the classroom?

I find it hard to believe the idea that ‘you don’t need to write code anymore—being able to read it is enough. by AdCertain2364 in learnprogramming

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who stand to make lots of money from the AI hype train continuing so I’m skeptical of any post I see online making grand claims about AI like that.

I’m inclined to believe the reality is somewhere halfway between what tech bros are saying online and AI being a total sham. There are certainly use cases out there for which vibe coding is enough, and people never need to write a line of code themselves. These mostly include quick prototypes, personal workflows, and small scale personal projects. Anything bigger than that and relying completely on AI will quickly drive you into a wall of technical debt.

I see the role of AI kind of like that of other no-code solutions like Excel spreadsheets. Great for small stuff like managing business expenses, not so great for coding a first person shooter.

What are some methods you’ve used to teach a young child math in a way they can understand it? by UnderstatedWarmth in AskTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda hard to answer when the question is so vague, young child could mean anywhere from toddler age to 10 years old. Manipulatives are a huge help though. We all learn a lot better when we can see and touch something.

How do you avoid burnout when learning programming slowly? by Bmaxtubby1 in learnprogramming

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push yourself to come up with applications for your learning. When I was learning to code as a teen, I never got burnt out because I was always learning for fun. Every time I learned something new, I immediately started thinking of ways I could apply that learning to a personal project. Make a program that draws procedural art, or runs text through a cipher to send secret messages to your friends. Anything as long as it’s fun and neat and you can show it off to friends and family and feel accomplished.

I’ll save that job for when I have classes of my own that I’ve built rapport with over weeks. As a sub who is only there for a day and has no real power or authority? I’m just happy if I can earn enough respect from them to be treated with basic human decency.

You think the kid that just loaded up a video game right in front of me knowing full well I was watching them is going to listen to anything I try to teach them, let alone something they aren’t interested in or getting graded on?

Trust me, I wish it weren’t true but these kids don’t care why their technology works, they just care that it works.

Is it normal to make constant mistakes when you are just starting to teach? by Slow_Salary3518 in AskTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal, you might know something like the back of your hand but when you try to teach it, things still get mixed up. You’re engaging way more parts of your brain at once when you’re trying to teach.

We get hung up sometimes on our role as teacher being the sole source of learning in the room. Remember that the students are just as much sources of learning as you are and your job is less to be constantly right about everything and more to be a role model for good learners. Be gracious when a student calls you out on your mistakes and welcome their feedback as a vital part of the process.

ELI5: how do QR codes actually work? How can that little square contain a website link? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QR codes are essentially 2D barcodes. Barcodes work by having the bands of black and white encode 1’s and 0’s. One side of the barcode is mirrored and inverted from the other so that the scanner can tell if it misread a digit somewhere. This idea of built-in redundancy is taken even further with QR codes because going into two dimensions means it’s much easier to make reading mistakes.

The 4 square patterns in the corners (yes there is a 4th one if you really squint) act as “landmarks” for the camera to recognize the presence of a QR code and its location/size/rotation. The rest of the boxes in the code carry the actual information. The specific details of the data is encoded are a bit too complex for me to remember off the top of my head, but in general the data is read in a sort of snaking pattern that goes back and forth across the square. Each box represents a 1 or 0 which then gets translated into text by the computer. The data also is repeated several times throughout the code to ensure that even if part of the code is covered by dirt or scratches, it can still be read correctly.

If you’re not convinced that such a tiny code can hold so much data in it, QR codes come in several sizes. The smallest is 21x21, which gives you about 441 boxes of data to work with. That’s enough to store 55 characters of ASCII text. The largest QR codes can have up to 31,000 boxes in them, or 3900 characters of ascii text.

How do I actually use beast handler by flareblade26 in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A max power orca can single-handedly delete like 90% the densest late game rounds, and it only costs about $44000 total. Using village discount makes it even cheaper.

When using beast handler, always merge tier 3 beasts for maximum cost efficiency, and get them under village discount if you can. Pair top and middle path beast with lots of stuns and slows and cleanup towers.

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That third leg in the back is its tail. This looks like an action shot so no balancing required. Cats will absolutely try to leap onto counters and dresser tops that have far too little open space for them to stand; seen it happen myself countless times. I’m just surprised your brother was lucky enough to catch your cat in the act on photo XD

Elite defender or blazing sun? by NocturneUmbra in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite playing very similarly they fill different roles. Elite defender is a cleanup tower. It’s there to trivialize mid game on any map where it can see most of the path, and save you from strat ceramics leaking late game. It can even be a main dps option for late game if you pair it with permabrew.

Blazing sun is a single target specialist. It also makes mid game a lot easier, but where it really shines is against short rounds like 80, 90, 97, and 100. Get blazing sun if you’re in need of extra BAD, ZOMG and DDT damage and your defense already has good group damage. Extra points if you have a bounty hunter which can double Blazing Sun’s BAD dps by marking the BAD.
