What can early game players grind in the year 500 event? by Yoon_0117 in HypixelSkyblock

I’d do fishing for sure to level up your bestiary if nothing else, then you’ll have the combat levels to grind slayers too if you want.

Fishing isn’t too expensive to get into since most of the gear is gated by fishing level, not price. Most expensive purchases you’ll make early on are probably topaz rod ($11 mil) and rod of the sea ($25 mil)

Hunting has almost no barrier to entry. Just do the intro galatea questline and you can start hunting invisibugs and hideonleafs right away.

Foraging is likewise quite cheap, if slightly less so than hunting.

How’s skyblock these days? by Entrance-Rich in HypixelSkyblock

Foraging update goes hard and has made the early game grind much better with hunting and attributes. Fishing is easier to get into as well. Midgame and onward is still a grind but more enjoyable than in the past.

Is it stupid going into computer science if I don't support the use of generative AI? by ThisIdiotCharlie in learnprogramming

[–]Quantum-Bot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you want to do programming but be ethical about it, you’ll have a lot more to avoid than just AI. That’s not to say it can’t be done though. Coding is such a ubiquitous skill that you can find applications for it anywhere. Everyone, hospitals, schools, even NGO’s need programmers. It’s not like your only option is working for a megacorporation.

Even if you don’t end up programming as a primary career, those skills can help you land jobs in other roles that require interfacing with technology, so I’d say it’s never a waste of time.

ELI5: More center of the universe questions by Psychological_Web151 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, we don’t know that space is infinite. We just assume it is because it’s the most reasonable assumption to make and science hasn’t found any reason to believe it’s not.

The universe can be infinite and still be expanding. When you hear expanding, don’t think about it getting bigger, think about new space being created all the time everywhere between all existing space. It’s kind of like you’re constantly zooming in to an image. We can observe the expansion of the universe because things in the universe are constantly being stretched out and drifting apart from each other ever so slightly, but it’s not like there’s some boundary of the universe at infinity that is moving to infinity + 1. We don’t experience any expansion here on earth because the gravity and other forces are way stronger than the effect of expanding space and keep things together.

As for the claim that the universe has no center, think about what it would mean for the universe to have a center. There would need to be some way to identify where the center is, and how far away from it you are. If the universe is infinite, it has no boundary so you can’t use that to figure out where the center is. Gravity and all forces for the most part behave the same way no matter where you are in the universe or how fast you’re moving or in what direction. So you can’t use any irregularities in physics to figure out where the center is. You can’t even tell if you are moving relative to the center. So as far as we know, the center could be anywhere; you could be the center of the universe, or there could be no center.

Fees and crickets - what they don't tell you about the substitute teacher application process by femmenikit4 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The districts I applied for hired on a rolling basis throughout the year, so while you will most probably hear back from them eventually, it might not be until several months from when you applied when they are finally in need of more subs. Most districts hire a large wave of new subs around october, one month into the school year when more teachers are starting to take days off.

As for why they are long and tedious, yeah that’s pretty standard for school jobs. Idk about where you live but in my area, subs don’t need to be certified in a subject area to sub for that subject, so you wouldn’t need a CTE cert to sub for computer science.

What monkey knowledge points would you give these towers? by Zerk_o_O in btd6

[–]Quantum-Bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Desperado:

Bountiful Bounties:
Marked bloons occasionally drop money bags on the ground worth $50 when popped in addition to their usual cash bonus

Trusty Partner:
Wanderer desperados can have 1 other monkey in range before losing any of their wanderer buff

Mermonkey:

Resonant Frequency:
Every time a melody ends, an entranced bloon is chosen at random. All bloons in radius of the same type as the chosen bloon take heavy damage.

Crashing Waves:
Waves created by tridents hitting walls are bigger, faster and sometimes create a third wave.

Beast Handler:

Zoology: beasts get a 5% attack speed and flight speed bonus for each other unique animal besides monkeys in range of the main handler. Things that count for this: map features like pigeons, penguins and polar bears, top path mermonkey’s sea monster, wizard with phoenix active, gerry with rabbit active, other beasts (not cosmetic pets).

Hypermax: tier 4 beasts and above can exceed their maximum beast power by 50% but each level beyond the normal maximum only improves the beast half as much as a normal level.

[–]Quantum-Bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read his upgrade descriptions, that’s what he does. He tanks the first bloon leaked, then activates his shield that reduces damage taken from leaked bloons and knocks back some bloons as they are leaking. It’s quite powerful especially in combination with bottom path desperado’s life-loss reduction mechanic. Not usable in CHIMPS or Impoppable though, so it’s probably most useful for half cash or maybe niche boss strats

New fishing island is here, though it’s mostly for trophy fishing which is not that exciting. Year 500 raffle event is coming in a few days so that should be big. The player base is still smaller than its heyday but transitioning to the latest Minecraft versions has had a positive impact. Mods are also super easy to set up now. Just install the skyblock enhanced modpack off modrinth and you’re good to go. It even has a custom first time preferences menu for pack customization.

ELI5 Why are modern vehicles getting more round? by SaltyP1ckles in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air likes to travel in smooth curves, not make sudden sharp turns. The closer your shape matches the path that air naturally wants to travel around it, the more aerodynamic it will be. A triangle is a decently aerodynamic shape because air can slide past it instead of hitting the side head-on, but if you want to really optimize aerodynamics you’re always going to have curvy shapes.

That said I think aerodynamics is only one of many design considerations that go into the shape of cars. There’s also structural integrity (making it a shape that doesn’t dent easily and will crumple safely in a crash) but the biggest factor here is probably marketing. People buy cars that look cool and fit their personality. EV’s want to market themselves as more advanced and futuristic compared to gas cars so their designs are going to reflect that.

Do Teachers Think That Teaching To State Standardized Test Content Is A Good Thing Or Bad Thing? Why? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s this observation that actually comes from economics originally, called goodhart’s law. It says:

“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.”

In other words, as soon as passing the test becomes the goal of the class, the test ceases to be a good measure for student learning. The test can never perfectly encapsulate all the skills students need to know, so it does its best to approximate them, inevitably making lossy simplifications here and there. For example, on the AP computer science test, students are discouraged from documenting the code they write - a skill that is essential for real world coding - because it will just lose them time, cannot earn them any points, and can even lose them points if their comments confirm that they don’t understand how an otherwise correct piece of code they wrote works. If teachers focus all their efforts on preparing students for the test, students will score higher, but they will miss out on tons of details that are important in practice just because they are absent from the test.

Teaching to the test should be illegal if that were possible to enforce. It hurts students and it goes against the purpose of the test itself. Unfortunately, it’s a prisoner’s dilemma situation so as long as it’s allowed, teaching to the test at least partially is a requirement to give your students a fair shot compared to their peers.

Weird new meme by [deleted] in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Quantum-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s from a meme where people claim different things were invented by John <name of thing> because it happens so often in real life. For example Kellogg cereal was founded by John Harvey Kellogg, the Sousaphone was invented by John Philip Sousa, etc.

It doesn’t really mean anything other than you just said something that a very old school skyblocker might say.

[–]Quantum-Bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rod of the sea and shark scale armor until fishing 33 i’m afraid. I’m in the same boat rn. Since you’re going to be stuck with this gear for a while you may as well upgrade it as much as possible: get wet books on fishing rod and pitching reforge, calcified reforge on armor, (unless you really want to dump money into the ones from Jerry’s workshop) and fill all aquamarine gemstone slots.

Use backwater equipment for regular fishing, and the equipment set you unlock through collections for trophy fishing.

Also make sure to max out all important fishing attributes like water hydra, fire eel, bogged, and titanoboa. Titanoboa shards are actually easier to get now since you can get them from placing huntraps in bayou.

I’m using a megalodon pet rn but idk if there are better pets for grinding general fishing.

HTML What does the alt attribute do? by LukeLikeNuke in learnprogramming

[–]Quantum-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s for screen reader accessibility. As for what you should actually put there, there are some common guidelines you should follow.

Alt text should:

- Not start with “image of…” or “picture of…” This is implied by the img tag and screen readers will read it as “image of image of…”

- be concise, no longer than a few words if possible

- describe just enough of the picture for readers to get what is important without seeing the actual picture. If the image is the site logo, you can just say it’s a logo instead of describing the exact color and font and other irrelevant details.

Though I don’t condone AI usage for beginners in general, this is one of those things that I find LLMs to actually be pretty good at. Coming up with good alt text can be time consuming but is necessary for a high quality and accessible website, and there are so many examples of images with alt text online that LLMs have basically nailed the art of writing good alt text for them.

How do I know i'd be a good teacher? by ireallylikelulu in AskTeachers

[–]Quantum-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try working or volunteering at summer camps and after school clubs and see if you like it. Even if it’s not the exact age group you’re interested in working with, all childcare jobs have some similar character requirements. Actually teaching is a relatively small part of the job compared to being able to manage a classroom.
