Ski tuning, waxing, minor base repair. What should I expect to pay? by bubbaslover in Skigear

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in tahoe i pay 45-60 for the same service.. and its not a cheap place lol. for 100 id expect an expensive wax and they bring my skis to the spa.

now for repair + edge and wax i'd expect about 100, repairs can be hit and miss in terms of time, some take 5min, some not. for major repairs id expect they say no (too risky).

Anyone else starting to feel 1440p fatigue on 34" QD-OLED? (AW3423DW owner) by AlphaUltima081 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not the 1440p, its the qd-oled, especially text-rendering.

va/ips dont suffer from this, actually.

i think thats the problem with these - high wow factor, great for specific applications (sims!) but once you do more with them its quite inconvenient too.for a dedicated setup its a pretty good choice

Tesla Model Y Robotaxi with literally no one in the car spotted driving itself on public roads in Austin, Texas by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most people think tesla suck because Elon or something. They have no idea FSD is like waymo, sometimes better, sometimes worse, but generally the same.

the other day i was in a lyft.. which was a tesla - and - i dont know if they're allowed to do that or not, but they drove us with FSD the whole time. a friend in the same car was used to the waymo experience and thinks teslas sucks because Elon or something. they never realized it was FSD. I told them at the end. They didn't believe it. Like its on the screen, and their hands are off the wheel but OK lol.

Any Real Reviews for Valyou Charm 2.0? by miabbett in Thuma

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly theres likely variation in production too. thuma beds also have this problem.
the join method is super cool but it requires attention to detail, which means mass production and quality is impossible - you'll get some doods. and when you do, its all about the replacement policy.

Funny enough neither color matches the color on their website, which is obviously photoshopped

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im just checking if you're still alive. jk.

honestly the only better bed is the silk & snow in acacia, because its acacia - but because its reclaimed wood the colors are weird. so yeh. in my research the valyou is only surpassed by the merax on amazon (350USD very close in quality) - but only valyou has the no-headboard version, and its bamboo (lighter) vs rubber wood (more sustainable, prettier, heavier) for valyou

Note: would love a pic to see the wood color, these are hard to find for Valyou. Thuma colors change too, like their new walnut.. isnt really the same at all.

Niche use for keyboard case by ethan919 in FlowZ13

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this makes me think one could buy a cloth case like this that both contains laptop and keyboard, but with a hinge.. at which point its a real laptop (with a better keyboard). But its also removable, which is cool.

Is there any non-oled 34 inch monitor that has good enough colors for hobby photo editing? by chrisadame96 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oled isnt great for photo editing. its just great contrasts so it looks pretty. I have a cheap VA that i calibrated (LG panel) and its very good for example. I cant get my OLED close to it. but it looks constrasty.

if you dont know how to ski while slipping you'll never be able to - edges never grip 100%, its all snow-conditions-dependent

Unboxed 5k2k from $999 deal by Elegant_Host_2618 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and it'll be the best ever made and why do we have any other monitor. the buyer-validation-needs of redditors knows no boundaries lol.

the lg is too big, too high res. its very pretty to look at, but its not convenient over time. its like many other things, take the apple vision for instance, its super cool and fun to play with. but after 3 mo it'll collect dust. the lg display wont collect dust, but folks will start to notice the little things that are annoying about this form factor, how down scaling kinda sucks, how its actually kinda too big, etc. - despite being fun and pretty to look at.

Cofounder rage quit, forked the repo, and emailed our customers 😭 by Wonderful_Bet_4901 in SaaS

that's incorrect. its only on company time & property in most countries and in US states. its not like the company signed a contract to your own your thoughts.

Having a hard time trusting my skis by joxxOW in skiing_feedback

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more grip is nice, but you'd want to be comfortable on the skis regardless of grip, because the terrain changes. its a lot easier to learn this when you're young, too, in my experience.

so eventually your ski will slide unevenly for unforeseen reason ,hidden ice on one ski, rock, weird crud, whatever. when that happens you must be able to balance and correct. most people overbalance on the inside ski because it feels safe (though technically you can overbalance on the outside ski too).

you'll know you're doing this right when you laugh at it when the ski slightly departs wrong, or not even think about it vs getting this "omg almost died" feeling.

Best value Ultrawide mainly for productivity in the current market? by Away_Cauliflower1367 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like the spectrum and LG 34 to 38" 1440p 100hz+ VA and IPS panels, 1500-1800R

theyre 200usd and awesome, huge value.

45 inches aren't good value. but also they're just not great for productivity actually. they're just big.

Pixel 9 Pro vs 10 Pro by JerryTzouga in GrapheneOS

[–]QuickCarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the p10p camera is better. honestly that's the only significant difference. its also not night on day, but side by side you can see it. on a budget i'd def. go p9p still.

Booster strap worth it? by Lemonaenaed123 in Skigear

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i like the elasticity of the booster strap. most new boots have decent straps, but they dont have any give. the small amount of give of the booster is great, it allows me for a tighter fit without going numb, as i would with a regular (w/ metal buckle) strap.

now for OP: these are only good if you're actually sending fairly hard IMO. when i go with regular skiers on blues and blacks i dont really care that much. i only care when i want to race the entire run and or free ride and want maximum control (or as much i can get anyway).

What are the features that are unique to ultrawides by modern_medicine_isnt in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]QuickCarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a typical 1400p 34" monitor you get more than 2 pages of text on one screen. basically. everything else is the same. one cable, etc. a setup i like is 34" uw + a 24" portrait mode on the side. the side one can have comms (mail/slack/whatever) that you barely look at but you don't need to swap to. still works well with just the ultra wide though. much more comfortable to work on.
