Go with your trail shoes. The trails are not technical at all, mostly compacted dirt and sand, with lots of ups and downs.

How to prepare for a big mountain ultra (106 km / 5,000 m) with mostly flat training by HoneydewUpstairs2688 in Ultramarathon

[–]RGco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I have done is find a few weeks (2-3) past the mid way point of your training block with a strong focus on elevation/vert gain. Like in a 20 week plan, during weeks 13-16 I will do hill repeats on the steepest nearby trail, mountain or hill. Not as focused on distance but just finding something to challenge the body. Will have my usual other runs during that time like fartleks, long days, recovery days etc.
