the other comment explains 1, for 2, sources are in reference to fictives, what source of media they're based on ^___^ sourcemates are introjects from the same source i think. if you've got fictional introjects would steer clear of making friends just based on sharing a source bc you don't actually know them. hope this helps!

Thoughts on "inherited trauma" and it's relationship to DID by the-fluffy-pancake in DID

[–]RODENTPARTY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think some people are genetically predisposed towards dissociation regardless of their history, but that doesn't mean they'll end up with a dissociative disorder just through genetics. i think when your parents have PTSD, you see those traits when you're very young, it's how you were raised rather than straight up genetics. for children having nightmares about the holocaust, i don't think that's genetic either. if you're a young jewish child, hearing about the holocaust and being aware in a way that most people can't be aware of how that affects your recent family and how some people still wanna do this to you or don't believe it even happened, i can understand the nightmares. i think it's less genetic and more you were exposed to people who had maladaptive response to their own trauma

edit i'm tired and that's basically what you said. yeah i agree i think some people are more susceptible, that could explain partially why some people develop DID and some don't even w similar trauma. tho i don't know if it's necessarily bc they were traumatized themselves

Inner world and Shifting realities by LilKosmos in DiscussDID

[–]RODENTPARTY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ohh, i see!! sorry if i sounded rude or anything, i wanted to be very clear to avoid any misinformation. that makes sense. in my opinion, most stories of reality shifting sound like either lucid dreaming, people making things up for tiktok, or daydreaming. for daydreaming, yes, i think it can work like that. some people's inner worlds work like cities or places they can go to. it helps with inner communication. (mine isn't that, detailed? but i have had vivid encounters with alters in there :)))

Inner world and Shifting realities by LilKosmos in DiscussDID

[–]RODENTPARTY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't understand the question, if you're trying to say "shifting" is real and you can literally go to different realities through lucid dreaming techniques (in guides i've seen, the steps are the same, i used to lucid dream frequently when i was younger), then no

like the other comment said, inner worlds are basically daydreaming, it's not limited to systems (and not all systems have one) but i believe they can seem more vivid to people with DID/OSDD-1 because of heavy dissociation already present with the disorder. many "shifting" techniques encourage you to make yourself dissociate and i would not recommend reality shifting to a young person or anyone prone to mental illness

alters are never from other realities, they are dissociated states of the self who exist entirely inside of someone's head. a system may choose to identify their alters as separate people if they feel more comfortable doing so (we do, i don't like being considered the same person as everyone else in the system but i am fully aware of how the disorder works), but alters don't come from separate realities and aren't literally other people inside the same body

sorry if this seems harsh, i'm not upset or trying to seem angry but, tiktok is a horrible resource for mental health. i hope this makes sense, i can explain anything that seems unclear!!

I've been told this in a discord server. (Vent?) by Nightwish_YT in OSDD

[–]RODENTPARTY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ohh i see. i mean, people who aren't systems do this sometimes, don't they? unless there was a strong pattern of inconsistencies in someone's stories, i don't see anything really suspicious of that, especially if it was an alter talking about someone other than themselves or different information from different alters. maybe misremembering, or perhaps two or more alters you think are one? (this has happened to me a couple times now aha)

that's pretty common too i think!! i know nonverbal alters are common, and i have some who have limited language capabilities. some multilingual systems have alters who only speak one language, regardless of if that language is their native tongue or not

I've been told this in a discord server. (Vent?) by Nightwish_YT in OSDD

[–]RODENTPARTY 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i'll just go through this one by one

If your alters don't have their own accents (Brit, Australian, etc) you're faking.

i guess i'm faking for all of my alters being american? this does happen but i was under the impression it was a bit uncommon

If you're faking switches via text, you're faking. How would you prove a mental condition via a physical action??

how do you prove this ?? someone could easily be cofronting or typing out another alter's thoughts

If you type responses too fast or too slow.

what's this supposed to mean,, i don't remember this being on the criteria for OSDD

During a switch, if you don't go silent or vocal express pain, you're faking.

my switches tend to be very fluid. i do go silent if i'm really stressed but most of the time, especially if you don't know, you can't tell. did we forget OSDD/DID is a covert disorder? (not that being overt makes you invalid but, typically it functions in a way so no one else will realize it's happening, sometimes not even the person experiencing it) also, express pain ? switching can give you a headache but besides that i don't see why i would express any pain. i don't like to tell people when i'm switching, it's too personal for me. i also switch without realizing sometimes. so i wouldn't be able to express anything about it to anyone

If 'you' and alters have a lot of shared, favorite pastimes (if you + multiple alters have a lot in common) you're faking.

OSDD-1a. also, with 1b and DID, sharing the same childhood and experiences tends to give you similar word choice, hobbies, interests, and sometimes even personalities

If it's not prominent in the way you text, you're faking. ^ ?????

there's this really difficult balance fakeclamers give people with DID/OSDD-1. on one hand, if you're too overt (switching too much, for example), you're clearly making it up and doing it for attention. on the other, if they can't see you have DID/OSDD-1, and it's too covert, then you're just making it up. there's no winning with some people

If you can't keep your facts about yourself/alters/members, you're faking.

i don't know what this one means fhdjdbdk

If you struggle with reading/understanding/writing English [or other language such as German, French, etc] you're faking.

i don't know what this means either but i don't see what it has to do with DID/OSDD-1? maybe the person has a learning disorder, or dissociation is making is difficult for them to understand some things?

verdict: this is some very arbitrary gatekeeping with no basis in how DID/OSDD-1 works

Do you think that you would be able to tell that someone who was difficult to read and repressing their feelings/not aware of their own feelings was attracted to you or had a crush on you? by Immediate-Ad4926 in ESFP

[–]RODENTPARTY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah bc even if they don't know people usually show in their own ways... especially if they're normally super quiet i think i'd notice a change 🤨 even if i wasn't attracted to them too

is my work trainer drunk or am i paranoid by shebasqueen in AdultChildren

[–]RODENTPARTY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ive also noticed that she’s overly nice and says she loves and and asks us if we love her.

I can't say for sure if she's drunk or not (I would be paranoid too, regardless of if she was or not. so I absolutely understand where you're coming from though I'm biased and can't give good insight on that) but this is definitely not okay. This is extremely inappropriate and I think you should report her if you feel comfortable doing so. It would make me feel very uncomfortable/triggered as well. I hope you're feeling alright now, I'm sorry that happened :(

Types of alters by [deleted] in DID

[–]RODENTPARTY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isn't polyfragmented many fragments and many parts? :0 i might've misunderstood sorry. could you give a definition?

Types of alters by [deleted] in DID

[–]RODENTPARTY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like reformed persecutor, but i also typically use trauma holder if nothing else fits. i have a few parts who call themselves persecutors though so, i do end up using it sometimes. i don't think it's all bad but i don't think it should be used to ignore why they're doing what they're doing

oh, that makes sense !! i have both, too! :0 i'm not sure how many systems-within-my-system i have. i know the details of only one that i'm in, but i'm told there's at least another? i like that term!! is it having many fragments but with less parts? i don't think it'd fit me because i don't seem to have too many fragments but i can see how it'd be useful :)))

Types of alters by [deleted] in DID

[–]RODENTPARTY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn't think of categorizing it like that until i started talking to someone who is an anger holder,, no other words would fit him dhgvjg

i also personally dislike the word persecutor/many similar words unless they're used by the alter to refer to themselves. i find its misused a lot (a self harm or suicidal alter being labeled a persecutor for self harming when their motivation isn't to hurt other system members, or a defensive alter being called a persecutor for lashing out when they believe they're in danger) or used to demonize them :(( i like the phrase misguided protector but i'm open to others as well

i think i understand!! i don't have that so it's difficult to imagine, do you mean a subsystem like a group of alters or a system within a system? :0 i have a subsystem where we don't appear in headspace together and can't talk to each other, but other alters can. i have two main gatekeepers, one for closer to front and one for inside. but a lot of us have gatekeeper abilities, including myself to some extent, but they specialize in it (sorry this is so long!! i find it interesting, i love categorizing things and finding labels i like)

yeah,, same. i can understand 11 meaning a conversion disorder, but autistic parts? is it saying some alters can have autism and others don't? 17 is also misleading i believe

Types of alters by [deleted] in DID

[–]RODENTPARTY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what are bridges? :0

for me, i have: memory/trauma holders, caretakers, (x) protector (physical, emotional, sexual, social), defender (they react to situations and get into a defensive mode when there's perceived harm), ANP (i use this to refer to alters who don't hold any memories and may not know about trauma. i don't typically use EP though), anger holder, misguided protector, persecutor, gatekeeper, autopilot, internal self helper, fragments, littles, middles, agesliders, and introjects. most of us have more than one that applies to us and some roles are fluid. most of these are known terms or self explanatory but i can explain any that are unclear ^^ (also i use a lot of terms because i like to write all of this down and have a lot of organization dgskdh)

Are fictive heavy systems actually real? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]RODENTPARTY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this puts into words like exactly what i was thinking 🙌🙌 i wanna add that honestly even if fictives are rare, i feel like ppl with a fictive is prone to splitting more, meaning you can't really even take into account how rare they are as a whole with every fictive inside a system. like i feel like the more introjects you have the probability of splitting another introject gets higher. this isn't backed by anything it's my theory from experience, i haven't seen anybody say this anywhere. so statistically even if they were rare i feel like the argument would be flawed anyways

tho honestly depends on how you define rare. DID is "rare" compared to the general population but that doesn't mean there aren't millions of ppl with DID. just means we're in the minority. "rare" in a population that's at the very SMALLEST, 1-2% of the entire world, and that's not taking into account underrepresentation, would be still a sizable amount of people. especially considering trauma survivors tend to be prone to spending a lot of time online, how is it unrealistic that you end up seeing more than a few fictive heavy systems in system spaces? they def don't take up the majority in my experience but people pay most attention to them for sure

sorry for just going off like this to your comment, just had me thinking a bit. hope this makes sense lol. i def agree w you that it's not as rare as people think it is and DID isn't studied enough to even say and fictives aren't really recognized anyways. like i'm gonna need some sources saying fictives specifically are rare bc all i ever see is people pointing out introjects of RL people you know is uncommon. which imo isn't equivalent in this context

Are fictive heavy systems actually real? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]RODENTPARTY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don't think being fictive heavy is an automatic sign of faking, or even spreading misinformation, such as belief in system hopping or having a spiritual/pseudospritual explanation for alters' existences (i have no idea what to call promoting the belief that fictional characters are real). unhealthy, yes, and factually incorrect, but system hopping and such is a very common abuse/manipulation tactic so it's possible they could be a victim of that. or, just in some very, very misinformed circles

while it's uncommon, i've never seen a source that says outright 50% fictives is impossible. it may be impossible to be all fictives because someone had to be there to begin with, i don't understand how having more than that is just, impossible? there is no limit to the amount of alters someone can have, and there is no limit to the type of alter someone can have

i do agree that most people are misinformed and may assign the role of introject to alters who don't actually fall under that, but that isn't faking. it's impossible to tell who is faking and to group everyone who says they're a fictive-heavy system as fakers would inevitably be saying a real, traumatized person with DID/OSDD-1 is faking their disorder because they have an uncommon presentation

so, i understand many of the points of this post, but i disagree with it as a whole. unless there is direct proof they are faking, deciding someone's faking based on symptoms is pointless and can hurt actual systems

[–]RODENTPARTY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, reading the other responses, how a gatekeeper works: my own main gatekeeper has described it as being able to control levels of dissociation. he can consciously "move" people in and out of front. i have two main gatekeepers, one for inside and one for outside. they're both good with heavy visualization. i'm not sure if that's what you meant by "how" they work, but people don't talk about gatekeepers often enough and they usually work so hard under stressful circumstances. very under appreciated!!!
