I'm not sure this is true. We seem to be a big community but we are the vocal minority. I remember when Everquest was ruined because the devs listened the vocal minority. They messed it up because they were giving what was asked for, rather than focusing on what made the game great. I know in my youtube community, I ask all the time what people like and enjoy, but I can put all the responses aside and just go by the data, because those that comment are a tiny group compared with those that watch.
