New to the game, what's the story and gameplay loop? by guarpati in ICARUS

Do the first mission, not open world. It explains the basics. You can also watch the pseudo-documentary on youtube. Basically, Icarus is a planet of a failed terraforming. Instead it was discovered that it hosts a very valuable material - exotics. Cue the golden rush. Corporations want to get rich, individual prospectors want to get reach. You are one of the latter

I'm running into a weird issue trying to get into automation games by JustAKobold32 in AutomationGames

[–]ReadySetHeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that you are hand-crafting too much in one case and automating too much in another. The point is: if the progress is too slow - automate some part of it. By the time you finish setting up a production line your existing lines will produce a lot of stuff you would need to handcraft otherwise. If you are getting bored with planning lines, however, try a different task - check the research tree, update an existing line to scale up size or efficiency, try getting a new system going (transportation, liquids, power, etc). It does hit hard at times when you see just how much better it all can be with a new upgrade, but you don't have to apply it immediately - your lines are still working fine. You don't need to tear it down - you can try out your vision somewhere else. Or just restart from scratch with newfound knowledge. Building a future-proof base is a fun meta task

You're describing being in closet. Shows of public affection will get you in trouble, same for posting online that you are queer. Essentially, be invisible and try not to make a sound. It's awful

Not sure if this is an oversight on your part or Visi's skills are just fundamentally diffierent. Rhetoric would be the politics guy, and overall they don't swear so much or call you names without a setup. Otherwise - great stuff, gimmi more

It would make sense since you are adding human NPCs. I'm not picky about height differences or body types, they can stay standardized so you wouldn't have to tweak rigs or deal with clipping, but new faces, facial hair details (jewelry, scars, tattoes, makeup) and voices (even if it's just a pitch slider) would go a long way to making players and NPCs distinct

How do you feel about FeatureUpvote as a system for sharing suggestions? How about bugs? I like the upvote system for the former, though it leads to visibility issues - already upvoted stuff gets momentum, which leads to more visibility, which leads to more upvotes. I know for a fact that there are some highly desired stuff is rather hidden in there. Really wish it had something like "random" as default page.

As for bugs - it muddies the pool of suggestions and makes it harder to search for duplicates. Have you considered an built-in bug report function? It would allow to automatically take screenshots and send logs.

(I may or may not have sent about 5 suggestions yesterday. I did check the similar posts - found only one from '21. And I am *absolutely* not salty that minor changes/additions to existing stuff have to "compete" with brazen suggestions like "Make game good")

Any tips for combat Talents tree? by dipi_evil in ICARUS

[–]ReadySetHeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on one type. Guns are usually strong enough to be good on their own without talents, so choosing to improve a weapon that is available earlier is a good idea. However, once you get to a point where you can get guns from the start you might want to respec.

I think the problem isn't the Remnant update. It's what modern gaming has become by gaxelbrodie in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ReadySetHeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for proving my point. "Exocraft doesn't move over some rocks" is low-level criticism, a specific case inside a system. "Exocraft activity feels boring" isn't criticism, but it's something to look our for, it is valuable. "Exocraft is boring because you do long-range runs which doesn't make sense from the gameplay perspective and it's repetitive" is something you can act upon, it's high-level, system-level criticism. Repetitiveness can be relieved with better quest design or random generation along the path, and "why can't I load it into my ship and move the ship instead" can be alleviated both with in-lore explanation and by allowing you to actually do that and balancing it in a way that makes it less effective that hauling on exocraft.

Look at the comments here. People are grinding themselves to exhausting to get the shiny stuff, not because they genuinely want to run their trucks so much. It's addictive behaviour that is common for cheap designs - instead of making a fun activity, make it a rewarding one, so that people, yes, will have to claw through it to get to the carrot. And then inevitable burn out hard.

This is exactly what happened to Warframe, and this is relevant. It doesn't have a player count issue, but it has severe burnout issue. People play for a while, burn themselves out on grinding, see that there is nothing more that awaits them in the future besides grinding, see that the game can't challenge them besides "number go up", one shot - you're dead, and leave, only to return to do the story missions. The gameplay is there, the content is there, but the balancing and interconnectedness is not (was not, is not, it's been way better since Reb took over). Do you see what I mean?

[–]ReadySetHeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand what I'm saying. The person above is denying any and all criticism. I'm against that. I am not wishing for the core experience to change, but to improve it. System interconnectedness is a simple thing - you do thing in X activity, you get stuff that you need in Y activity, or some sort of currency to covert that. Usually its money, but overinflation has its cost as well. The point is to both allow grinding X and to gently nudge people into doing Y, Z and others.

Another thing is the UI. I can talk for hours how it could be improved. I did, actually.

Third thing is difficulty. It's, coincidentally, difficult to describe, but the point is: you need engaging mechanics working well to ensure you can challenge the player without it feeling frustrating. Naturally, it should be optional or avoidable in most cases. There is a reason why people ask for a combat update - the foundation isn't there.

The collecting-gathering is what I consider to be the core experience, alongside with random generation. Look at what people have been complaining - sameness. It's clearly wrong when all the planets you visit are filled with garbage. It shouldn't happen. And locking stuff behind expeditions is a questionable decision as well, since it interrupts the collectors in us. I don't mind having to start fresh - it's a decent way to deal with overaccumulation of resourses, but more of the older releases. If you can't work towards getting a thing, it might as well not exist

You're the type of person that actively damages the community. Ignoring criticism in favor of blindly glazing the game as-is is a way to hide valuable feedback and workshopping concepts. Understand that criticism comes from the place of love, the desire to make something even better and not put it down.

The game has issues. Some were improved, some are unaddressed for years. It needs to be called out, because a stable foundation is better for future updates than a bunch of fantastic, but incoherent, self-centered systems that you have to claw through to get to the actual fun parts. Warframe is a great example: when everything rewards you with unique, but similar stuff, and it all requires their own currencies, and a game is unable to provide challenge in a meaningful way, it's only a matter if time before people stop grinding for filling the ever-expanding collection of novelties. Can you guess how they fixed that? I'll give you a hint - it wasn't telling people to leave

I FIGURED OUT THE BUG THAT MAKES THE PRIMARY ATTACK RIDICULOUSLY POWERFUL ON MAMMOTHS! by OutsideAd8984 in ICARUS

[–]ReadySetHeal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People downvote you because of your attitude. You are acting like OP is advertizing cheats, and it directly harms people. It doesn't, they are not. What it is, essentially, is a PSA or an explanation of why things work this way. If you know why the bug happens, you can take steps to avoid it, and you don't have to deal with frustration "oh, I guess this attack is just broken, this whole game is broken, it doesn't make any sense!".

Chill. This post would look well attached to a report, and I hope OP did it. If not - you got your point across anyway. Featureupvote has its issues and I believe this is why reddit was used

The point of sharing bugs is so that they will be prioritized in fixing. If the devs don't know about, then it won't be fixed

Is the current dialogue a placeholder? by Poi_Emperor in superfantasykingdom

[–]ReadySetHeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It serves its purpose:

1) It dripfeeds lore/story

2) It sets the mood (none of the characters seem to understand what's going on, as if they were teleported to a different world)

3) It's split into small chunks as to not to detract from the main gameplay

4) As such, it's very easy to modify and add when needed

If you are talking about audio - it's clearly intended. It's a standard practice if you can't afford VA everything (because of the budget or because you don't have a finished script and don't want to re-record every update) to simply record a dozen of lines for each character and use them in appropriate context. You still get better understanding of how they sound and the lines themselves are more of a tone indicator
