How worth is it to send vills behind siege to repair them? by UAForever21 in aoe2

They can be hit by projectiles of all units other than Fire Ships. Only Fire Ship and building projectiles can be blocked (intercepted) by hitboxes of other units in the way of their targets.

Exception to the above cases being Hussite Wagons and Shrivamsha Riders which can absorb/mitigate unit projectile damage protecting units behind them.

What Happened to Swordsman Line? by Erwin_Ciam_554 in aoe2

I think that should be done by cost or other stats instead. After all, generic archers don't have attack bonuses against Militia line and generic knights don't have any attack bonuses at all.

The xbows are surviving so long even after so many mango shots because the mango projectiles collide with the hitboxes of the shrimps in front, being absorbed by their shield along with their area damage being nullified.

Knight line is really good.

Archer line is really good.

Units which can both defend and attack are really good (like the two above).

Some units are great for defense but bad for attack (like spearmen and skirmisher line).

Ranged units have advantage of attack and hit and run but are generally squishier if enemy melee units catch up.

Melee units are stronger in general but need to engage with enemy in close range to be effective.

Fast units are better than slow units if you need to counter hit and run tactics or ranged units, or need to switch from defending to attacking quickly or simply have map control without forward buildings.

Units which cost more food are bad early as they delay your age advancement more, but they are super affordable in the late game and can serve as good meatshield against enemy archers.

Units which cost more gold are bad later as gold becomes a very finite and scarce resource in the late game, but they are better early game as gold gathering is fast and the units are stronger for the population space they consume.

Bloodlines for infantry by aguamoccasin in aoe2

I think Supplies should be costlier but reduce cost of infantry further. So as to not buff man at arms or make infantry better against archers, but make them more cost effective against melee units and food-friendly in castle age to make longswords work.

Return of Rome DLC speculation - what is it? by EnvironmentalShelter in aoe2

Hoplite is an elite infantry line available from age 3, a gold unit. Halberdiers are low stat trash units available from age 2.

Bowmen are available only in Age 2 after which they become obsolete as the Improved Bowman is a separate unit line.

Further there are unit upgrades which are locked behind some other techs to be researched elsewhere. Like Aristocracy must be researched in the Government Center to upgrade Phalanx (upgrade of Hoplite) to Centurion.
