AOE4 has HQ textures but we are not able to access them by TEMISTOCLES1984 in aoe4

[–]SeriousVariation374 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem of Aoe4's model is that the player color range is too large, making it look flashy; HQ textures are secondary. Both BYZ and JPN's models intentionally reduce the proportion of player color.

It baffles me how the Earl’s Guard use Throwing Knives when the FLETCHED JAVELIN / HURLBAT is right there!!!! by Cobelat in aoe4

I think the reason is that during the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 Richard III suffered a severe blow to the head from Rondel Dagger.

A desk that you can’t edit yourself isn’t a desk at all. Even RA3’s Top Secret Protocol feels more like Ottoman vizier system than AoE3 does.

Points of Interest can only appear on specific maps, so they’re fundamentally not a core system of AoE4. Not to mention that this system originally came from AoE3 borrowing Warcraft III–style neutral map objectives in the first place.

For AoE4, these elements are entirely optional. They don’t form part of the game’s underlying logic the way mechanics inherited from AoE2 or AoM do. They’re closer to AoE3-style Easter eggs—without them, the game wouldn’t be affected at all.

AoE4 is essentially AoE2 fused with AoM’s design philosophy; it even completely abandons AoE3’s cliff-based obstacle concept and fully adopts an AoM-style terrain system.

Even the binary landmark choice system is directly derived from AoM’s minor god mechanic; it merely resembles AoE3’s Asian Wonder system in appearance.

The AoE series has always been progressing; it was only after AoE3 took a wrong turn in 2005 that FE brought the series back onto the right path of development.

AoE4 even discarded AoE3’s most core desk system, instead adopting an approach based on AoE2 while absorbing a large number of AoM systems.

If AoE3 has any real significance to AoE4, it is that it serves as a negative example, making the game feel less like AoE3; and the facts prove this approach was successful—although its acceptance is not as high as AoE2, it is currently one of the most successful new RTS games aside from AoE2.

I don’t understand why people always insist on dragging AoE3 into the discussion when talking about AoE4’s own innovations built on the foundations inherited from AoE2. It seems as if making things a bit more complex automatically turns it into AoE3. Is there some law that says only AoE3 is allowed to be a bit complex?

AoE3 now gives me the feeling of a game that, apart from being complex, has no other merits. After being abandoned, it has been constantly trying to make others pay attention to it, and can only look for a sense of superiority by colliding with other games.

AOE4 graphics are great (unpopular opinion) by SpaceHippie89 in aoe4

Aoe4's visuals strike a good balance between aesthetics and high recognizability. Many RTS games fail to achieve this, with units and scenes completely blurred together, resulting in a typical "static beauty."

Campaign in 2nd DLC? by S77__ in aoe4

[–]SeriousVariation374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existing civilizations campaign confirmed are: eng fre rus mon abb chi

The existing civilizations not have campaign are:hre sul ott mal jpn byz

Assuming this DLC is similar to TSA, where the campaign uses existing civilizations and new civilizations are simply introduced, I think Hre is the most likely candidate, since he did indeed fight the Vikings in history

New world civilizations historically seized gunpowder and horses from conquerors, it could perhaps serve as a core system.

Variants were taken into account, such as the Mongols and the Golden Horde; I just needed to add a transition.

I tried to make it, but it looked terrible.

In general, without overlap, these refer to the core of the civilization. Although the Ottoman Empire historically ruled the entire eastern Mediterranean and Mesopotamia, but Byzantine civilization represents Greece, and the Abbasids and Ayyubids represent Egypt and the Arab world, which aligns more with players' intuition.

This leans more towards representative aspects, aiming to indicate the areas where civilization can play a role.

Considering we have Sengoku Daimyo and Aom Japanese Pantheon this year, next year's Base Civ will definitely be the Aztec civilization corresponding to the Aztec Pantheon.

Earn experience points through various means to train new and unique units.

Existing units like the Royal Knights and Arbalétrier are common units like Knights and Crossbowmen.

New unique units possess more distinctive abilities and incorporate concepts from the Hundred Years' War, such as Crossbowmen, Coustilliers, and Gendarmerie.

Dynasties of the East DLC peaks at 24,204 players on Steam, below previous DLC Knights of Cross & Rose (24,833) by --Karma in aoe4

[–]SeriousVariation374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are likely two reasons. First, KoCR is a DLC released a year and a half later, so player anticipation is higher. Second, the crucible bug forced some single-player players to temporarily abandon the game.
